OK, so I had an idea that I wanted to try out...
The premise is to take a promotion, a year, and cobble together a mixtape-like super card out of all the matches that took place in the given promotion/year. I figured that we could make this a collaborative effort to share ideas and come up with a few options as far as ultimate SuperCard MashUps!
I'll get the ball rolling with an example, which is my first stab at a SuperCard MashUp for 1997 WWF. Feel free to tweak or build on this, or offer up your own! For folks with a better knowledge of WCW and/or ECW, please feel free to chime in with SuperCard MashUps for those promotions as well. If this goes well, once it's run its course, I'll put up a thread for a different year for us to do next.
I'd like to keep this as open as possible, so the primary constraint is that the matches have to have taken place in the given year and in the promotion that you're working with. Ideally, they'll be televised matches so that we can compile some links at some point to create actual playlists for our SuperCard MashUps. The other constraint is that you can only use a wrestler/personality once on the card. However, you can take as many matches as you want from a real life card (so, in other words, if your SuperCard MashUp for 1997 WCW is just Starrcade '97 in its entirety... so be it). I won't impose any hard rules on this, but I'd urge us to try to keep the number of matches limited to something realistic... but again, this is a SUPER CARD!!! so it's OK IMO to be a little heavy on the match count and overall run time. Other than that, it's a free for all... no obligation to have title matches, etc. Hopefully this all makes sense, and is acceptable to folks who want to participate.
Anyway, without further ado, I present PI's SuperCard MashUp: 1997 WWF!
1.) The Great Sasuke vs. Taka Michinoku -- IYH #16: Canadian Stampede [Calgary, AB; 07/06/97] Foreign attraction/cruiserweight action to kick things off.
2.) Billy Gunn & Road Dogg vs. The Headbangers -- RAW [Oklahoma, OK; 10/20/97] Debut of the New Age Outlaws as a tag team.
3.) IC Champion Rocky Maivia vs. Vader (w/ Paul Bearer) -- RAW [Berlin, Germany; Includes interference from Mankind, who hits Rocky with the urn. Vader continues brutalizing Rocky after the bout until a group of officials intervenes.
4.) Ahmed Johnson & The Legion of Doom vs. The Nation of Domination -- RAW [Hartford, CT; 06/09/97] Didn't go with the Chicago Street Fight because I didn't want two street fights on this super card. Plus, this match was shorter... and considering who's involved... the shorter, the better.
5.) Indecent Proposal Match: Brian Pillman vs. Goldust (w/ Marlena) -- In Your House: Ground Zero [Louisville, KY; 09/07/97] Thought the stipulation made this a more fitting representation of the era than their plain ol' single match from SummerSlam.
6.) Toughman Contest: Marc Merco (w/ Sable) vs. Butterbean -- In Your House: D-Generation X [Springfield, MA; 12/07/97] Celebrity involvement, plus it gets Sable on the card in the appropriate capacity.
7.) European Title Tournament Final: The British Bulldog vs. Owen Hart -- RAW [Berlin, Germany; 03/03/97] Ties up the tag titles, but this gives us a better showcase of Bulldog and Owen than some random tag match... unless it's one of the tags that involves other big names, which can't be spared here.
8.) Street Fight: Hunter Heart Helmsley (w/ Chyna) vs. Cactus Jack [sub. for Dude Love] -- RAW [New York, NY; 09/22/97] Thought this tends to be an overlooked gem (vs. their PPV encounters from earlier in the year).
9.) Submission Match (w/ Ken Shamrock as special guest referee): Bret "The Hitman" Hart vs. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin -- WrestleMania 13 [Rosemont, IL; 07/23/97] One of the best matches of all time, one of the two best matches of 1997, and it gets Shamrock on the card in an acceptable capacity for 1997.
10.) Hell in a Cell Match: The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels -- Badd Blood: In Your House [St. Louis, MO; 10/05/97] Another one of the best matches of all time, the other of the two best matches of 1997, the first-ever HIAC, and includes Kane's epic debut.
...
OK, that's what I've got for a start. Now everyone else chime in. Let's see some sweet 1997 SuperCard MashUps!

🤯 , thats a pretty spectacular card! I want to try this for ECW. The Great Sasuke, Gran Hamada, & Gran Naniwa vs Taka Michinoku, Mens Teioh, & Dick Togo( Barely Legal, April '97), the most critically acclaimed match from ECW's landmark first PPV Chris Candido vs Lance Storm( As Good As It Gets, September '97), one of my favorite workrate matches of the year in ECW, it's no Malenko vs Guerrero but its a damn fine traditional style wrestling match. Bam Bam Bigelow vs Spike Dudley( As Good As It Gets, September '97), this was a fun squash where Spike gets thrown into the crowd and surfed around the ECW Arena Stevie Richards vs The Sandman( Trenton, NJ, May '97), I don't think I've ever seen this match, it was on a house show but I had to have BWO Stevie and Sandman on the card so here you go Rob Van Dam & Sabu vs The Eliminators( Crossing The Line Again, Feb '97), this was probably the best match that these guys had I Quit Match Shane Douglas vs Pit Bull 1( Hostile City Showdown, March '97), one of the hottest feuds in ECW history was going strong into this match, showcasing one of the best heel acts in pro wrestling in the 90's(Shane Douglas with Francine) at their best, Douglas traps Pit Bull's previously broken neck up in the ropes and that twisted bitch Francine uses a tool to tighten the ropes and force Pit Bull to quit. ECW World Tag Team Championship Steel Cage Match The Dudley Boys vs The Gangstas( Heatwave, July '97), this was a fun cage match with a huge mess of weapons and an epic dive off the top from New Jack that sent the ECW Arena into a frenzy, great moment. Beulah Mcgillicutty vs Bill Alphonso( As Good As It Gets, September '97), this one is cheating a little bit since it was originally a mixed tag match between RVD/Fonzie vs Tommy Dreamer/Beulah but through a series of events Dreamer gets knocked out and RVD leaves Fonzie to take care of the Beulah in a 1-on-1 match, what went down was without a doubt one of the best matches/segments in ECW history. ECW World Television Championship Taz(C) vs Pit Bull 2( November to Remember '97), since there are so many matches on this card I went with this Taz showcase because it was a quick squash. Pit Bull 2 was like an unbeatable invincible monster at one time but Taz wipes the floor with him in a matter of a minute or two, this was like a quick UFC finish and everything about it worked for me, even the showdown with Vince Mcmahon's wet dream Brakkus after the match! Loser Leaves Town Match Tommy Dreamer vs Raven(Wrestlepalooza, June '97), blowoff of one of the best feuds that the company had been revolving around for like 2.5 years, this match had to be on this card. Terry Funk vs Bret "The Hitman" Hart( Terry Funk's Wrestlefest, September 97), this wasn't on an ECW show but technically it was, dream match. That's a lot of matches but a couple of these were short less than 5 minutes

6.) Toughman Contest: Marc Merco (w/ Sable) vs. Butterbean -- In Your House: D-Generation X [Springfield, MA; 12/07/97]Celebrity involvement, plus it gets Sable on the card in the appropriate capacity. I thought PI was trolling us with this to see if anyone was paying attention. Looked it up. Nope. This really happened. Don't remember this at all. Love this idea. I'm not going to bother coming up with an alternate 1997 card. Don't have the patience to search for the least terrible match involving the Outlaws, 1997 Goldust, Vader & Pillman, early Rocky, etc. The only big change I'd make is swapping the LOD & Ahmed vs. Nation match PI picked for the Wrestlemania one. That was a good time. One of the first occasions where WWF went pure ECW. If anything I'd streamline the card to... 1. Taka Michinoku vs. Great Sasuke- Canadian Stampede 2. Legion of Doom & Ahmed Johnson vs. Faarooq/Crush/Savio Vega- Wrestlemania 3. Davey Boy Smith vs. Owen Hart- Raw 3/3/97 European Championship 4. Cactus Jack vs. Triple H- Raw 9/22/97 Street Fight 5. Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin w/ Ken Shamrock as ref- Wrestlemania Submission Match 6. Shawn Michaels vs. Undertaker- Badd Blood Hell In A Cell w/ KaneThat card would put even the great Canadian Stampede to shame. *I'm going to work on my beloved 1995 & 1996 WWF since I have nothing to add to 1997.

I debated going when a more streamlined approach, but there were certain names that I felt were important to get onto the card in some way to better represent 1997. My main regret is not finding a way to get Sid in there, but even as a big Sid fan, I'm willing to admit that not having him is no big loss. I debated going with an early Rock vs. HHH, wondering if that might free Mankind up for a match with Vader or something... But Rocky wasn't really producing magic in-ring wise in 1997, so I figured it was better to sacrifice him as Vader fodder instead of deprive the card of a great HHH/Foley clash. In order to squeeze this card into a tolerable run time, I love your cuts. shinobimusashi awesome 1997 ECW SuperCard MashUp!

This is a tremendous idea that has some serious legs on it.
Shamrock being the ref for Bret/Austin prevents being able to use the Shamrock/Vader match unfortunately.
Bret/Austin, HBK/Taker, Owen/Bulldog and Cactus/HHH feel like the certainties for WWF from this year, which is a very impressive set of matches. I feel like 1992 WCW would produce something excellent as well.

So glad to see the primary reason behind this idea (i.e., to lure you into posting) worked! I didn't think enough of the Shamrock/Vader match (or any Shamrock match from 1997) to be OK with not giving myself Bret/Austin. I'm excited for 1992, 1993, etc. I can start those threads now, or maybe wait? I dunno... don't wanna burn folks out. Others are free to throw the threads up too if they so desire. I'm not the SuperCard MashUp monopolist here. Or at least that's not my intent. I just figured years when the three main promotions were active and running a lot of PPVs would be a good starting point with a lot of options.

Yeah, in no way is it close to good enough to even consider not taking Bret/Austin, which is the first match on the card sheet. But it would've been nice to have, to give us something a little different and get both of those names on there in matches. Vader is stuck in a rough spot, since his match with Owen at ONO isn't an option either and obviously not Final Four.

Yeah, it seems like WWF and Vader just weren't meant to be a match made in heaven... Hopefully the Mastodon will get better representation when we get to the early 90's and his WCW work can be showcased.

OK, that's what I've got for a start. Now everyone else chime in. Let's see some sweet 1997 SuperCard MashUps! Held off on this one because my card barely differs from PI's but since I'm a completist.... 1. Great Sasuke vs. Taka Michinoku (Canadian Stampede 7/6)2. Marc Mero vs. Leif Cassidy (Final Four 2/16)3. New Age Outlaws vs. Headbangers (Raw 10/16)4. Rocky Maivia vs. Vader (Raw 3/3- IC Title Match)5. Brian Pillman vs. Goldust (Ground Zero 9/7)6. Ahmed Johnson & Legion of Doom vs. Faarooq/Crush/Savio Vega (Wrestlemania 3/23- Chicago Street Fight)7. British Bulldog vs. Owen Hart (Raw 3/3- European Title Match)8. Cactus Jack vs. Hunter Hearst Helmsley (Raw 9/22- Street Fight)9. Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin featuring Ken Shamrock (Wrestlemania 3/23- Submission Match)10. Shawn Michaels vs. Undertaker featuring Kane (Badd Blood 10/5- Hell In A Cell)Only changes are a different Nation 6 man tag and subbing my boy Leif in for Butterbean as a Mero opponent. Thought about dropping Vader/Rocky for Vader/Shamrock but declined due to a possible rules violation and also because while Rocky Sucked, he did go on to become a really big deal. Also thought about dropping Outlaws/Headbangers for NAO & Godwinns vs. Headbangers & Blackjacks from Survivor Series with the Outlaws as sole survivors but decided against it because I'd rather watch two bad teams wrestle for 4 minutes than four bad teams wrestle for 15 minutes. So their debut gets the nod over their first big win. Rant Time: WWF deciding to go all in on Rockabilly and The Roadie still strikes me as one of the weirdest booking decisions ever. I don't know what they saw in those two jabronies. It felt like a straight up troll in real time. Almost like WWF had just given up...they no longer gave a damn. But credit to WWF for sticking to their guns here. They were eventually rewarded with their most successful tag team of the 90s. *No supplemental show here because the 1997 roster is thin and the undercard dreadful. Probably the worst of this entire project. *Should have 1997 ECW up soon.

*My previous ECW MashUps (95, 96, 98, 99) were among the most straightforward of this entire project. What little trouble I had usually consisted of choosing the "right" match in forever feuds. This one is different. There are a ton of options here. My only "rule" going in was that the Funk/Sabu Barbed Wire & Dreamer/Raven Loser Leaves Town matches must be included as they're definitive ECW moments. But you could still make a perfectly acceptable card without those matches. This may be the most wide open one I've done yet. And for the first time ECW has a roster so deep we get a supplemental card. Exclusive To Home Video Pre-Show
Gangstas vs. Tommy Rich & Ricky Morton (House Party 1/11) Pitbulls vs. FBI (Wrestlepalooza 6/7) Mikey Whipwreck vs. Justin Credible (November To Remember 11/30)
ECW's war with WWF & WCW is well known. What's less known is that they also declared war on "southern style" wrestling. 1997 ECW had a low key ECW vs. Southern Style thing going on all year what with the likes of Rich, Morton, Smothers, PG 13, and even Jerry Lawler showing up to massive amounts of heat. ECW also feuded with Lawler's USWA promotion. The pre-show reflects that war on Southern Style. Pitbulls get their last moment in the sun. Mikey was back to being a low midcard guy who was often injured during this period if I remember correctly and Credible was still a noob so they get bumped to the pre-show. ECW: We're Big Time Now 1. Great Sasuke/Gran Hamada/Masato Yakushiji vs. Dick Togo/Men's Teioh/Taka Michinoku (Barely Legal 4/13)The Michinoku Pro boys bring their state of the art brand of wrestling to the ECW Arena. Normally I'd be hesitant to open with a match consisting entirely of new competitors but I think the action, smark hype, and Kaientai wearing BWO shirts would be more than enough to get the rowdy ECW Arena crowd into it. 2. Chris Candido vs. Lance Storm (As Good As It Gets 9/20)Think this is the first match of their forever feud. There are lots of viable alternative options for both guys I may get to later. 3. Rob Van Dam vs. Al Snow (Hardcore Heaven 8/17)RVD is another guy with many other options here. This time he draws the former Leif Cassidy who would soon become an ECW regular. No idea if this holds up but these were two of the more innovative US wrestlers of the day. 4. Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Spike Dudley (Hardcore Heaven 8/17)The crowd surfing match. This feud made Spike Dudley. Before discovering this I viewed him as one of those dreaded Other Dudleys. 5. Beulah McGillicutty vs. Bill Alfonso (As Good As It Gets 9/20)This is ECW's version of a big McMahon match. That's a major compliment. Edit: Damn. Just reread Shin's post. I always remembered this being a singles match. Turns out it was actually a mixed tag. Oh well. It's late. I'll fix it later...maybe. 6. Stevie Richards vs. Sandman (House Show 5/3)Stealing this from Shin. Hate having to do this but I'm including my second house show match in this project. Both guys were enormous parts of 1997 ECW but didn't have the greatest diversity of opponents. It's either this or Stevie vs. Axl, Sandman vs. Balls, and a bloated 11 match show. 7. Eliminators vs. Dudley Boyz (Barely Legal 4/13- Tag Title Match)Had to include the first ECW match I ever saw. This one match hooked me on ECW for life. I had never seen guys the size of the Eliminators fly around the ring like that. So many flips! Not to mention all those martial arts kicks! Dudleys were fine in their role as punching bags. But this was the Eliminator Show. Based on this one match I was convinced they were no less than the second greatest tag team of all time. 8. Taz vs. Shane Douglas (Wrestlepalooza 6/7- TV Title Match)This took place during the greatest hour in pro wrestling history. It's basically Taz as the world's greatest Ultimate Warrior and Douglas as a perfectly serviceable Honkytonk Man. Good stuff. 9. Tommy Dreamer vs. Raven (Wrestlepalooza 6/7- Loser Leaves Town Match)A definitive ECW match as Tommy finally pins his nemesis after two and a half years. Kicked off the single greatest hour in pro wrestling history. Plus we get an epic post-match with Louie Spicolli, Jerry Lawler, and like a million other guys as a bonus....unless that's a rule violation? 10. Sabu vs. Terry Funk (Born To Be Wired 8/9- ECW Championship Barbed Wire Match)THE definitive ECW match in my book. Total war. Total bloodbath. *That's a killer show right there. Yet there is room for a handful of PPV quality alternatives. shinobimusashi already tried his hand at this one. I'll give Kilgore a day to take a crack at it if he's willing. Then I'll post an alternate take or two with only one or two holdover matches. 1997 ECW is deep.

*Starting working on 2004-2008 WWE but I've hit a snag on all of them. Well, I could have a solid 2005 card up right now if I could bring myself to part with Angle/Michaels in favor of HBK/Shelton and Angle/Marty or Angle/Flair, but I just can't drop the 2005 WWE match I was most excited about, and one which delivered for me at the time. SO! I went back in time to bust out a few more 1997 cards.
1997 WCW
1. Chris Benoit & Steve "Mongo" McMichael vs. Jeff Jarrett & Dean Malenko (Road Wild 8/9- Elimination Match) 2. Goldberg vs. Hugh Morrus (Nitro 9/22) 3. Lord Steven Regal vs. Ultimo Dragon (Slamboree 5/18- TV Title Match) 4. Chris Jericho vs. Syxx (Saturday Night 6/28- Cruiserweight Title Match) 5. The Giant vs. Scott Norton (Fall Brawl 9/14) 6. Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Eddie Guerrero (Halloween Havoc 10/26- Cruiserweight Title vs. Mask Match) 7. Curt Hennig vs. Ric Flair (Halloween Havoc 10/26- US Title Match) 8. Steiner Brothers vs. Outsiders (Souled Out 1/25- Tag Title Match) 9. Randy Savage vs. DDP (Halloween Havoc 10/26- Last Man Standing Match) 10. Lex Luger vs. Hulk Hogan (Nitro 8/4- WCW Championship Match) +The Sting video package/segment of your choosing.
*And because I promised it a while back....
1997 ECW
*I prefer my first attempt but this is a hell of an alternate show with almost no repeat matches from my last card, a few big names being used better, and the biggest match, hype-wise, in ECW history.
1. FBI vs. Balls Mahoney & Axl Rotten (As Good As It Gets 9/20) 2. Mikey Whipwreck vs. Justin Credible (November To Remember 11/30) 3. Chris Candido vs. Louie Spicolli (Hardcore TV 3/13) 4. Rob Van Dam vs. Lance Storm (Barely Legal 4/13) 5. Great Sasuke/Gran Hamada/Masato Yakushiji vs. Dick Togo/Men's Teioh/Taka Michinoku (Barely Legal 4/13) 6. Dudley Boyz vs. Eliminators vs. Gangstas (Hardcore TV 4/3- Tag Title Match) 7. Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Shane Douglas featuring Rick Rude (Hardcore TV 10/21- ECW Championship Match) 8. Terry Funk vs. Sandman vs. Stevie Richards (Barely Legal 4/13- #1 Contender Match) 9. Tommy Dreamer vs. Raven featuring Jerry Lawler (Wrestlepalooza 6/7- Loser Leaves Town) 10. Taz vs. Sabu (Barely Legal 4/13)
