I so hope this leads to a Switchblade Conspiracy reunion.  Post WWE they could take that gimmick to whole new levels with all the extra work they did since.  Sami just needs his mad muse back.

So what will it be for Jon? Impact? Ring of Honor? All Elite? Japan?

There's still part of me that could see the WWE actually pulling a swerve and having him return. Just because at this point, no one expects it (me included).

I was thinking the same thing, but is the E that creative. I'm still hoping he goes somewhere else.

This was my first reaction too. Same as Foley bringing back Cactus Jack.

He wanted to leave because he hated creative. If they said “fine we’ll let you do this if you re-sign,” then....

Yeah, I don't buy this as a storyline. Although that would be EPIC if the WWE pulled this off. It would automatically put Dean Ambrose/John Moxley at the top of the WWE if this was all a trick.

Yet, I doubt it. He's going to AEW and he'll probably get Cody one on one at the following PPV.

He was smart. Left on a good note so can always come back but I have zero faith that WWE 'creative' would be smart enough to pull this off. My money is on AEW and he'll likely excel there and the independent scene like Cody.

I actually just watched the promo. Excellent work by Ambrose.

Someone on wreddit pointed out the symbolism of him breaking out of prison. I didn't clue in on that (even though it was obvious) so that's a neat touch. Someone else wondered if him being chased by "The Big Dog" was also symbolism but I doubt it. Him and Roman seemed like they got along.

To me, the dogs are more him abandoning the "Hounds of Justice." The escape is him breaking out not just of a prison, but the Ambrose Asylum.

He's leaving everything.

Jon Moxley Podcast Notes

- Moxley had no say in the WWE press release or the commentators referencing his contract status

- Moxley made a point to acknowledge his release one time merely for self-preservation. Moxley was worried they would try and run an angle where they'd portray him as a quitter who couldn't hack it in the WWE and needed to join the minor leagues. Moxley beat them to the punch by dropping one line that explained his entire motivation behind leaving.

- Moxley knew in July of 2018 he was done in the WWE.

- The tricep injury was a nightmare. Originally he was slated to miss 6 months but then he had a staph infection and it turned into 9.

- Thoughts about leaving the company started around the time he was the top guy on SmackDown so around August or September of 2016, basically around the time of the infamous Austin podcast.

- Moxley disliked the scripts he was given. His character was an obnoxious idiot and he had to constantly fight Vince and the writers to script better segments. Moxley summed up a typical encounter with Vince and how he would be presented with an awful segment and he'd ask Vince what the deal is. Vince would then play it off that it was 'good shit' and that the fans would connect with the quirkiness of the character. Moxley felt insulted by the charicature, that Vince basically saw him as nothing more than an idiot.

- Moxley then skipped forward to an episode from last year when he was feuding with Seth Rollins.

- Moxley is specifically talking about a Raw from LA, so that would be the November 19th 2018 edition of Raw.

- Moxley was upset with the promo he was given and how they wanted him to insult the crowd instead of getting the angle over.

- The promo was actually supposed to be worse as they had a line about a pooper scooper but Moxley left it out. Jon then got to the back and received a bunch of notes about how terrible a job he did insulting the audience and why he shouldn't leave lines out. Moxley then went off at the messenger and asked why they even bothered to hire him when all they want is an actor to spout their stupid lines.

- Vince also scripted a line about Roman's leukemia and Moxley fought him on that.

- While Moxley was able to get the pooper scooper and leukemia lines out, they eventually got him on some germaphobe gimmick with all these props and Moxley didn't want to do any of that. Once again, Vince wrote this as his charicature of Jon and told him 'this is so you'.

- Things only escalated next week when they had him get vaccinated on Raw and the segment bombed. Moxley was so upset with that segment he felt physically sick afterwards.

- Moxley also had to fight another line knocking leukemia and it was so bad that Moxley thought it could end the WWE's relationship with the Susan G Komen foundation.

- Moxley then went on a tangent about how his idea for the character was basically to put John McLane and Dusty Rhodes together. His character would be the guy who goes through hell and back but isn't afraid to throw out a one liner. In hindsight, Moxley thinks that was a mistake because as soon as the WWE caught whiff that he was capable of comedy, they started feeding him all these rubbish lines.

- Moxley also touched on his babyface run and how it wasn't designed to get over and once it did the WWE had no idea how to capitilise on it.

- Moxley then touched on that period around his rehab where he was looking to get out and how he didn't want to leave any stone unturned. He rehabbed and trained as hard as he could so when he returned he knew he gave it every opportunity to succeed. Moxley went into detail about his process and how when he trains he likes to watch concerts. Interestingly, he gave a shout out to The Killers 2008 Royal Albert Hall show which was apparently recommended to him by Cody.

- Moxley wanted to come back on SmackDown as a heel and feud with Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles. So he flew specifically to New York to meet with Vince before his return and has out his idea. After he laid everything out, Vince informed him that he already had The Shield booked for the Australia show so he had to be on Raw. Furthermore, Moxley would find himself teaming with Rollins, essentially meaning he would pick up where he left off. To add insult to injury, the return itself wasn't going to involve any physicality and was going to be extremely lackluster.

- Moxley was upset with the return because they had Rollins spout some stupid line that telegraphed the surprise ahead of time, muddling the return pop. Not a big deal, but Moxley views it as a perfect example of the writers justifying their job in the company.

- Moxley didn't leave because he caught wind of AEW, he just wanted to get out of the WWE.

- Things came to a head on the post-Rumble edition of Raw where they had that Nia Jax-Ambrose segment. Moxley wasn't upset about working with Nia Jax, but knew it was only written in because of his release and sure enough Vince was prepared well ahead of time that Moxley would be upset so they had it out at their office. Moxley expressed all his frustrations with the company and how he hates getting sick on Mondays because he's constantly having to battle writers and having to come up with new ways not to look like an idiot on national television. Vince acted shocked and acted like he wished Moxley had have expressed these views earlier, which Moxley thought was nonsense because he had for the past six years. Regardless, Moxley still worked the segment with Nia and actually enjoyed working with her, he just wanted out of the company at that point.

- Moxley talked about how the WWE offered him a deal to stay but he didn't even look at their terms. By that point he felt that the WWE had taken away his love for Pro Wrestling and he was being fed promos by writers and matches by producers. He basically felt like a spoke on a wheel and felt extremely unfulfilled.

- Moxley touched on the press release and his theory is that the WWE wanted to control the situation and since Moxley's departure had gone public, they had to respond.

- The WWE were upset that the fans were cheering Moxley when he was getting squashed by EC3 so they flipped roles as a result.

- Moxley received $500 for that Shield special on the network. To put that into perspective, extras get paid the same to appear on Raw.

- Moxley brought up the vignette he released on Twitter and how he wanted it to be like a movie trailer similar to the Venom teaser. Moxley talked about working with Nick Mondo to film the project.

- While Moxley was filming the trailer, Vince messaged him about extending his contract for the European tour.

- Moxley is working with Mondo again to put together another 90 second video.

A few more bits and bobs but that's what stood out to me.

Unlike most shoot interviews, Moxley wasn't afraid to take the steering wheel and sign post what he wanted to say. Early on he made a point of outlining two key moments behind his decision. The day he started counting down the days and the day he almost quit the entire company.

That was lovely. Finally a refreshing, open look at how the WWE machine runs. And to think: he was just one guy. If even half the talent was doing what he was doing on a regular basis, how does anything get done in that place? How is anyone happy? It made me think of Big E on Twitter the past couple weeks while he was off. He finally had time to just say whatever he wanted and he ran with it.

“Be a dentist.” All his movie references were great. Leaving WWE was like the end of Harry and The Hendersons. :lol:

Thought Moxley's video had a familiar style. Awesome to see Mondo working with him. So cool to see Nick achieving his dreams of doing film stuff full time. For those who missed it the Mondo interview with Stone Cold was amazing.

Seeing a trend in these interviews about the WWE writers killing their passion.  TJP and Golddust also said the same this week.  

I love Moxley's interviews.  He is so self-reflective and creative.

Oh wow, Mondo straight out wrote the Moxley promo. That is awesome. Moxley put him over super hard. I so hope we see Mondo start to do more of these or get brought into NJPW or AEW as a video guy. Mondo just finished something else with Moxley too and posted a pic.

Also Moxley and Mondo are trying to put together a feature film with Moxley starting.

Another great interview.  Feel when people bring in Moxley they should just book the afternoon.  The guy can talk forever and not get boring.

I loved the interview. Fantastic contrast to his Stone Cold interview on the Network. Shows how hard he was trying to talk around anything sensitive.

I feel like the "older superstars tell you to take risks" bit was directed pretty pointedly at Steve.

That Brock match was the beginning of the end I am sure. The fact he was working deathmatches before WWE but guys who do not generally work a hardcore style put together his match had to eat at him. Moreso when Brock basically decided to not even work hardcore and just suplex him repeatedly.

Mox clearly resents Brock. I took his shots against him with about a million grains of salt.

My favorite line was him saying he'd train and develop his own pipeline of opponents if no other company existed.

I loved how clearly he doesn't need the money. He's a simple man that was a nomad before he met Rene. Wishing him nothing but the best.
