I fucking hate netflix, but will begrudgingly join again if the WWE offerings are good enough.
What I worry about if they are expected like most of the raw audience to now signup, and when that does not happen, claim wrestling on streaming media underperforms, fucking everyone out of future streaming deals on major platforms and we get stuck doing the game of signing up to services for a single fed or group of small feds forever. Netflix paid an insane amount for Raw, so I am not sold their expected return is rational at all.

It’ll be hard to measure, because to go back to me…how do you capture that stat if I’m already subbed to both?
And anyone know if it’s the full current archive going onto Netflix, and is it the full PLE schedule too?

It's been a nightmare trying to get on the online part of the Network.

Over 20% drop off on the week to week Raw ratings. Back to 1.8 after breaking 2 with the Cody win. Guessing Raw after mania still getting people to tune in but not stick around despite a solid show. Concerning sign for the move to Netflix coming too. That jump will require people to not just tune in, but pay a monthly fee to do so for an increasingly unpopular service. Why is it always ignored that to watch Raw currently you have to pay a monthly fee for a service (that I and plenty of others have opted not to pay for)? Netflix having a live show that will have commercials will do just fine to justify the cost. It sounds like a significant investment but it makes sense especially as Raw will once more be the A show.

Before, I was paying $22 a month for the WWE network, plus another $6 a month to watch RAW and had to have a cable package of some sort to see SD on FOX so I was likely paying close to $80 a month to watch wrestling programming before I cancelled it all and cut my cable. If Netflix-which we are currently subscribed to for $20 a month-can find a cost effective way to provide me their platform, plus all wrestling shows, I'm in. Otherwise I have no qualms on cutting them both. However, I have zero faith in this not screwing us Canadians some way. Our cable companies will find a way. They always do.

This happens every single year, the only comparison you can make is year-to-year. Raw was up 5% in the demo year-on-year. The WWE season has peaks and troughs. Natural high points that roll off. Netflix obviously knows this. I don’t think they’re concerned at all. Given the current momentum of the WWE product, I’d say they have to be feeling confident. Btw, I’m not a mod, and I know I’ve fanned the flames of this myself in the past, so I’m not getting on my high horse about it, but we’re reaching a tipping point with all this bickering between nath and c, and it’s ruining wrestling discourse on this board.

One other note I missed on that post though, Netflix is not an increasingly unpopular service. Netflix did have a downturn as with all the other streaming services in 2023, but they’ve bounced back significantly compared to their rivals.

Their password sharing crackdown was one of those things that was met with anger in online corners, but really paid off for them. I think they’ve overtaken cable in total subscribers in the US. You would imagine that for young people, Netflix would be well ahead of cable. I still think this is a slam dunk deal for WWE.

I explained well in the posts that followed, I did not expect a drop this big this year. I thought Cody would keep more here. His run and win felt really different than most years. I am not shitting on WWE, they broke 2 again on Raw, which is huge. Would be like breaking 4 before the streaming. And I have still have faith Cody can get RAW over 2 again by Summerslam with good feuds. He really is a once in a generation star with connecting with people. I may not like WWE's in ring product right now, but now more than perhaps ever before, wrestling fans should all be rooting for Raw on Netflix to become a massive success, whether you personally like the product or not. They succeed streaming groups will seek to bring on wrestling for easy profit and money will flow through all of wrestling. And not just AEW or WWE, feds like TJPW, NJPW, Stardom, AAA, CMLL, GCW all will be grabbed up by streaming groups and cash will pour through the wrestling community like we not seen since the territory days and everyone having local TV deals. Want a another boom period, Raw exceeding expectations is how you get it. And we all should want that, regardless of how anyone feels about WWE. The metaphor is overused as fuck, but Raw really could be the rising tide that can raise all ships.

Netflix did have a downturn as with all the other streaming services in 2023, but they’ve bounced back significantly compared to their rivals. Did not know this, just see people hating on it. But they are an international service, so could just be some markets not liking it. But compared to many other emerging services, they are not so bad in comparison despite fans complaining about rising rates. Not really followed them too much since I do not subscribe anymore since the mass culling of shows. The international shows are pretty cool though and 3 Body Problem was absolutely amazing, so likely will join back when WWE moves if they add a good enough back library and stick around until they do the second season of 3 Body Problem at the very least.

You would imagine that for young people, Netflix would be well ahead of cable. I still think this is a slam dunk deal for WWE. People could not expect that to go on forever. It is one thing if family, but this was like a person having a password that was then used by like dozens of people at a time. At some point you have to draw a line. Netflix I think ultimate had the curse of being the first big service and having to make a lot of unpopular moves before they were even considerations for anyone else, like how much to license, what to do in house and policy. And frankly, WWE on any streaming service is a win for me over cable, as fuck cable. My local cable is $100 a month. I can get every streaming service basically for that price. The grand irony of all this is for me is I will likely watch Raw legally and Smackdown through pirate sites if I opt to as now Smackdown will have the larger paywall for me. And as Mike did point, this will be true for about how people in the US at least right now. Some youth demo in the US may get cut off if their parents lack cable, but I doubt Raw gives two shits about US numbers next year, so the old metrics will be meaningless when they have solid international numbers finally. And I suspect these numbers are going to really warp everyone's perceptions of what the US ratings mean. Like Raw reports they pulled 20 million internationally, how do you even compare that to what AEW makes in the US market?

I got a feeling Jacob is going to be huge. Samoans his size should not be able to fly like he does. The fact he is skipping NXT means WWE sees it as well.

Wha'd I miss so far, anything good? Same. Just got here. I popped in at the end of a Damien Priest / Jey Uso promo of some kind, where I assume Uce is the first challenger and Priest said he can be the originator of the Beaten by WHC Priest club
DIY vs Awesome Truth, which Miz/Truth won but was barely paying attention
that bit teasing the ongoing breakup of Judgment Day
I think that's been about it?
