Commando is the epitome of Arnold cheese. It's so great. Couldn't have said it better myself. In general I find the cheesy action films to be eye-rollingly lame, but there's something about Arnie films that sets them apart and makes them super enjoyable. And Commando is the best of the bunch. Easy #1 placement. Arnold has far better comedic timing than he was ever given credit. Kindergarten Cop still stands out as an awesome performance in a comedy.

Everything everyone said --AFTER UT's dumb post-- is so spot-on truth with Commando. I can't remember if I snuck it in at the bottom of my list or ended up regrettably dropping it to #11 (along with Escape from NY & BTILC in a three-way tie).

Also this. Even in Pumping Iron, Arnie proves he's a pretty funny guy beneath or in spite of (or whatever) all those hulking muskles.

I originally had Commando at #6 on my list but it just gradually fell out of the top 10 the more I worked on my list and remembered other movies. It was my absolute final cut so I'd put it at #11 if I were to make a top 20, it's everything that is great about 80's action movies. I'm glad it made the top 10. All this talk makes me want to watch it again tonight right now.

T2 is better than the original, as well as every other movie you listed.

T2 is better than the original, as well as every other movie you listed. I disagree. The only arguments T2 has over the original is a MUCH more expanded budget and the advance of technology, which allowed James Cameron to really nail the special effects and production values. But in terms of acting, writing, and direction I don't think T2 is a better movie.

I want to know if there was a single year in the 80's that was loaded with great action moviea like 91 was?

I only saw Commando one time about 25 years ago and remember absolutely nothing about it. Which means I clearly should have made better life choices.
On the bright side, all this Commando/Ahnold positivity has me hyped for Predator dropping, and my inevitable write up. Oh yes, there will be a storytime.

I don't want to pick between 80s and 90s! That's like having to choose whether I like peeing or pooping better. They're both absolutely critical to my existence.
That said, I'm in the camp that is inclined to argue that T2 is better than T1, but I'm not sure if DH3 is better than DH1. We're splitting hairs though in both cases.
At least the 90s had Cage and True Lies.

I feel like I would have an easier time with 90s action. But I thought I would have an easy time with 80s too and I barely scraped 10, even with watching Lethal Weapon in the lead up to submitting a list. Still, following this up with 90s action is a sound idea.

Looking at my list, somehow left Road House off, I know it was fucking on there, but I guess when switching something or another, I accidentally let it slip away. I literally just watched it a few days ago. SHIT!

The 90's were great for action but there is no way they will beat a decade that has The Terminator, The Predator, Aliens, Lethal Weapon 1&2 and Die Hard in it. Just not happening. Not to mention the Rambo franchise, Bloodsport, the Karate Kid franchise, the Mad Max franchise, the Rocky franchise, Robocop, just too much depth there. I find the Rambo franchise to be a bit overrated compared to other action series. Rocky and Karate Kid I'd call borderline action, especially Karate Kid movies, I guess the Rocky sequels are action but that was the thing I disliked about them(still great) they tried to turn that character into a bad ass action hero when that was nothing at all what he was in the first movie(he was a bum). Mad Max, more like Meh Max! Never been a big fan of the Lethal Weapon series but I guess the first one is pretty decent. 90's ruled the 80's in action movie department, better Die Hard movie(3), better Terminator movie, better Patrick Swayze movie(Point Break), Robocop 2 is just as good if not better than the first, Bloodsport is the GOAT martial arts movie but 90's had the better catalog of martial arts action imo, Lionheart, Best Of The Best 2, Only The Strong( ba-na-na-whey!), Delta Force 2(GOAT Chuck movie), Sidekicks(better than Karate Kid), The Perfect Weapon, all of the Kickboxer straight to video sequels, etc, then there is shit like Rumble In The Bronx, Universal Soldier, Face/Off, Broken Arrow, Hard Rain, 80's had some of the all time classics for sure but 90's just had way too much depth, 80's can't compete! Plus, the 90's had.... THE BOZ...

LOL if we go into B-movie action the 90's doesn't stand a chance.
Don't make me bring up Rutger Hauer's legendary B-movie run in the 80's

It came out in 89. The only Rutger Hauer classic that came out in the 90's is Split Second. Granted though it is my favorite movie of his.

Just found Road House on Showcase Action. This will be the first time I've watched it since it was frequently shown on "Movies For Guys Who Like Movies" on TBS in it's edited form. I forgot that the late great Jeff Healey and his band was the house band in this movie.

Yeah talk about a TBS classic, I'm pretty sure they played Road House daily back in the 90's.
I found it on VHS at a shop I go to probably 2 or 3 months ago and watched it for the first time in ages. It is spectacular.

Tried watching Bloodsport a while back , didn't really pay attention after a while. Just wasn't for me I guess.
As for Road House though , I watched that movie on TBS probably 150 times before ever seeing the unedited version and I was even more fucking hooked. It's the ultimate cable movie and now a movie I will watch far too often.

I replaced Commando with Bloodsport as I had to get some Van Damme on the list. I just love the concept of the kumite along with all the typical dialogue that you get with action movies. Bolo Yeung as Chong Li is one of the all time great action villains. This was another movie that aired ad naseum on TBS in the 90's and was pretty much can't miss. All the clichés of this movie just feel like an old friend especially this scene.

Bloodsport rounded off my list at #10. I mentioned 80's B-movie action in a previous post and Bloodsport is a shining example of that. The movie doesn't waste any time trying for some deep philosophical plot or navel gazing. It's just pure balls to wall fight choreography and it's a joy to watch. As others have said the movie was a TBS staple and rightly so

So glad Bloodsport made the Top 10. I had some doubts as to whether it would. I knew shinobimusashi would have it high on his list but I wasn't sure about the rest of you. Good job, PW. Bloodsport cracking the Top 10 almost makes up for the egregious lack of Road House. Bloodsport would have made my own list at #8 or #9 if that dictator UT hadn't rushed things to keep me for voting.
The Kumite was a perfect concept for an 80s action movie. Very cool. And since Rocky IV is my measuring stick for 80s/action/sports movies I appreciated the 'Drago kills Apollo'-style story of Dux's rival killing his American brawler friend in the Kumite and Dux having to get revenge. That jacked Asian dude was a great monster heel who I feel could have had a great career in pro wrestling, while JCVD was an equally great babyface. Bloodsport is just pure 80s action movie goodness.
