So I got asked to be a ring announcer for an upcoming event, and was wondering who your favourite ring announcers were and your favourite/least favourite thing about ring announcing is?

The old school “heavyweight champion of the world” rather than just “world heavyweight champion” always sounded cool to me, I’m pretty sure Heyman did it as well.

It’s a cliche that’s in more than just wrestling, but the announcer asking “are you ready?” then no matter the pop asking again two seconds later annoys me.. even though I get the idea behind it.

Howard Finkel was probably my favourite ring announcer, I can’t think of any I actually dislike though.

Growing up I always rated Howard Finkel as the GOAT ring announcer and Gary Michael Cappetta as a strong #2. Nowadays I go in the opposite direction with GMC at #1 and The Fink at #2. Those two are head and shoulders above all the rest though.

My all time favorite ring announcer line is Howard Finkel's "and NEEEEWWWW WWF ___ Champion" for title changes. That line got me every time.

I also like wrestlers "hailing" from certain places rather than just being "from" them.

Least favorite....I dunno....not announcing weight and hometown, but I suppose that's more of a promoters choice than the ring announcers doing.

The weights in Australia get announced in KG’s, it always sounds off to me even though we use the metric system here. Oddly enough it’s still in feet though, 6’1 sounds better than 185cm I guess.

Did it tonight, went well...one major fuck up on my part.
So as previously mentioned I also work at venue, so trying to keep good relations as discussed in OT thread. Supervisor comes over to me and asks if I can move plates..as this lady in the front row put her dirty plates including a knife on the ground underneath everyone’s feet so obvious hazard.

As im underneath the table ..unknown to me..the match is over via submission and I’ve been screamed at to ring the bell repeatedly by everyone.

Actually worked out in my favour, as title match had a dusty finish in regards to the bell ringing ...


And I also slightly mispronounced someone’s name, but other than that I really enjoyed it. I’ll post any footage I find if it gets uploaded.
