I'm disappointed that they're standard controllers and not dualshocks, I presume it's just a way to keep costs down on the unit. I thought it'd be interesting to see what games would make it based on GameFAQs Rankings. Castlevania Symphony of the Night - Action RPG Chrono Cross - JRPG
Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped - Platformer Final Fantasy IX - JRPG Final Fantasy Tactics - Tactics RPG Harvest Moon: Back To Nature - Simulator Metal Gear Solid - Action/Adventure Resident Evil 2 - Survival Horror Silent Hill - Survival Horror Star Ocean: The Second Story - Action JRPG Street Fighter Alpha 3 - 2D Fighter Suikoden - JRPG Suikoden II - JRPG Valkyrie Profile - JRPG Xenogears - JRPG No way in hell Sony would ever front-load this thing with niche JRPGs, but if they did, it'd be a Day 1 purchase.

Less interested in this because Sony’s online store isn’t a dumpster fire like Nintendo’s, but still a cool product.
I don’t know If they still do it but tying a digital game to the actual console is dumb.

Well, at least last generation. This generation Sony have become really stingey when it comes to their Classics Catalogue and there's only a handful of PS1 remasters available on the PS4. I can't help but feel Sony ignored their PS1 catalogue so they could capitilise on the NES and SNES Classic market. The other thing is that with the NES and SNES, it was the ability to play with authentic controllers that was a big selling point. Sony haven't changed the controller that drastically since the introduction of dual-shocks, and reverting to the OG design makes it less appealing.

That's crazy they didn't put the dual shock out with it and not too impressed with that list of games so far.

I'd be interested in getting this just so I can have a PS1 again. It would be cool if it could play actual PS1 CDs as well but I doubt that will be the case. I have my PS2 for that so no big deal. Wild Arms is a title that catches me eye. As far as I know it's pretty obscure but it's been on my bucket list of a long time. I've never owned the Playstation version of the best game of all time (FF7), so that would also be great.

Too bad about the ds because Ape Escape is a ps1 classic. I just hope it's readily available unlike Nintendo.

It drops on my birthday, interesting. I just might have to pick this up for myself, it'll be nice to give Final Fantasy VII another play through, looking forward to seeing what the other games will be. I just hope it's readily available unlike Nintendo. So very much this.

Kinda funny, X-Box tried to troll Sony like Sony did with their DRM...but failed miserably by phrasing it in a manner that seemed like they had more than 500 free games. Even trolling they can't get right this gen.

I was browsing through my games that I have downloaded to my PS3 and noticed that I have quite the PS1 collection on there purchased off of the PS Network or whatever, Symphony Of The Night, Demolition Derby, Silent Hill, Metal Slug X, and several others I can't remember right now.
What would be cool with the PS Mini is if you could somehow download your PS1 games to it, or if it could access the PS Network and download new games(well not "new", but old PS games that you buy on there that you don't already have).

It's bizarre to see Crash, Spyro, Tomb Raider, Medievil, Castlevania and Silent Hill all left off. In most cases there's been recent re-releases that Sony are trying to sell, but it'd be like Nintendo taking off Super Mario World & A Link to the Past because they wanted the fans to go and buy some compilation.
In saying that, it's not a bad list of games. Stuff like Cool Boarders 2, Destruction Derby, Intelligent Qube, Mr. Driller, Syphon Filter, Twisted Metal deserve to be played and Toshinden, Flash, Rayman and Twisted Metal are good nostalgic picks. Oddworld, MGS, Super Puzzle Fighter are no-brainers. The only odd choice there is Rainbow Six which was supposedly a mediocre port. Surely something like Gran Turismo could have come in for it?

Not a bad list at all. Is Revelations: Persona the first in the Persona series?

Not a bad list at all. Is Revelations: Persona the first in the Persona series? Yes, supposedly a very westernized version of Persona where character designs, cultural references etc. were changed and sections of the game were cut.
It's worth checking out. The game was only released on the PSP in PAL regions and didn't even receive a release on the PSN.

Not good enough list of games for this to interest me enough to lay down my hard earned cash for it. Most of the games on that list that interest me I already have either on my PS3 or the real PS1 disc. Intelligent Cube is really the only game on that list that pulls at me that I don't have, a real copy of that is pretty expensive and it's a really good puzzle game that I like a lot.
Just not enough meat on that bone for me to bite. It does make me wish for a Saturn version of this though, or even Dreamcast or hell even a Sega CD mini!

Bug! Burning Rangers
Clockwork Knight
Daytona USA Enemy Zero Grandia
Guardian Heroes
The Legend of Oasis
Mr. Bones
NiGHTS Into Dreams
Panzer Dragoon II Zwei Panzer Dragoon Saga Policenauts
Radiant Silvergun
Saturn Bomberman Sega Rally Championship
Shining Force III Snatcher
Sonic R
Virtua Fighter II
Sounds reasonable. SEGA produced most of those games in the States and there's a fine balance between critically received and commercially successful games. Maybe throw in Magical Drop III since these Classic editions seem to love their puzzle games.

I'd buy that shit day 1, much harder to emulate Saturn games and it's not like Playstation where you can play those original games on a PS2 or PS3, there's no PSN or anything to buy these digitally, to buy all those real discs if you do have a Saturn would cost like $3,000  Can't think of anything you missed except for maybe Street Fighter Alpha 3 or one of the Marvel vs Capcom fighters, 2D arcade fighters were a big part of the Saturn legacy since those ports were vastly superior to the Playstation versions

So this seems to be a big flop, critically. Remains to me seen commercially, but since they half-assed it I'm sure it's fine. Anyways any of you guys pick it up?

Totally forgot about this thing, until today. I was in a store with a gift card, and saw it sitting there and grabbed one.
Played it for an hour, then switched back to the PS4. Apart from Tekken 3 - "I've still got it" - I can't be bothered with any of these games, most of which I can't understand why they are on it.

Even with the selection of games, once it came out that Sony did an average job of emulating the console and that there were fan-made emulators that actually ran better, whatever appeal the console had left was moot.
There were just so many poor decisions made around the console. Releasing it in December, original controllers, not really doing anything new with the tech, the poor line-up it's bit of a fail all-round. These classic consoles aren't really designed for somebody like me who hoarded their old games, but the one thing the SNES Classic did well from a PAL perspective was include a heap of games that never made their way over. There was an appeal to playing Final Fantasy VI, Super Mario RPG, Earthbound and Star Fox 2 on legitimate Nintendo hardware with a SNES control instead of just downloading it. With the PS1 Classic, the only game that had that appeal was Revelations: Persona, and even then that game doesn't have the best rep. The other games on the system aren't exactly hard to come by either. It really feels like a console for those who missed out on a PS3/Vita/PS1 and just want to get their hands on some old kit. So essentially it's for kids or 30 somethings who are just going to be upset that Crash isn't on the system.
