2 years ago, the company who bought us moved us to a new system and then laid off all the IT personnel the day we went 'live'. It crippled us for about a year and frankly we are still just hobbling along as the system is not ideal for our needs. Now they've decided to move us to another system which I've heard is no better than the current system we are on and as of last week they still didn't know how to pay people or bill the client. I'm sure they'll figure it out even though they are doing so in a fraction of the time that we converted last time with a quarter of the IT personnel to do it, but the REAL kicker is the 'go live' date...JANUARY 1.

In the history of 'go live' dates that has to be THE dumbest date imaginable. Our fiscal year end is end of Sept so it has nothing to do with that. People are on holidays starting middle of December until beginning to middle of January. The rest of us poor saps are stuck covering for them. Work stress coupled with the holiday stress is just a bonus. Now they are talking about a blackout period in which no one will be able to take holidays from Dec 15 - Jan 15. Ummmm...it's almost the middle of November dumbasses. People have their holidays already scheduled, etc.

EDIT:  I'll tell you one thing though, last time we had people not being paid for up to a month because of the new system issues.  The DAY I don't get paid is the day they see the backside of me.  There's not a lot of options here right now but that's one thing I'd never put up with.  

PTO is one of the few perks/benefits companies tend to offer, so at the very least I should be able to use it as needed. I guess what irks me is doing so with plenty of advanced notice. But yeah it doesn't really affect me since I'm a ONE MAN BAND. I already was gone for a month and they survived (barely) so a day won't kill em. Course Monday is Veteran's Day so now I get TWO off days this week. It's like a mini-vacation!

So I had to drill two bulletin boards up on a wall where the carriers come in and out with their carts. Makes no sense as in the 2-3 seconds it takes to go through that set of doors no one is gonna look at whatever's up. I get it, people higher up the totem pole that are outta touch with reality thought it'd be a good idea. What's even better is it's a SAFETY BOARD. If someone actually stopped to read it and a carrier was coming behind them with a basket full of parcels... might be an injury or an accident report. GREAT JOB PROMOTING SAFETY ASSHOLE!

Also on the off chance my boss is reading this... no, I'm another guy.

They did it. My company put a vacation/time off ban today from Dec 15-Jan 30 due to the new system. There are people who booked the time off for Christmas weeks/months ago and those who have plane tickets, so I don't know what's going to happen in those cases. I don't even know if they can legally do this. *shrugs*

It doesn't affect me as I didn't have time off but for those who do this SUCKS.

For the most part China tries the hardest, but they still miss the mark on a lot of quality and cultural things. It's more they don't understand what is important to us more than trying to scam.
They are very earnest and sincere for the most part, but its changing more in the big cities, people from Shanghai seem to be more cocky with not a lot to be cocky about (not a penis reference)

The Chinese orders are the most profitable, but for the big ones I often joke that I'm not selling equipment but a year of my life.

Steel is sold in FEET (Imperial), but we order in Metric. Everyone knows this. It's been this way for YEARS. You multiply 1m x 3.28084 and voila...FEET!!! Their vendors sell to them in FEET too!!! This old fuck actually wants our vendors to change their system (their actual computer system) to suit him, because he and the guys on site are too stupid and lazy to do math or to receive properly. You take the order and you match it up against the packing slip. Oh but wait he sends all his orders via email because he can't be bothered to make a proper requisition like every other area does and doesn't print out his orders so he has something to match against. I can't see my desk because I have to print them out to keep track of them so why isn't he? And why doesn't he know that a W200 x 36 is the same thing a an 8" wide flange. He's the one fucking ordering it!!!

The other week he called down hellfire and brimstone on me because trucking companies were contacting him when they got to site (like they are supposed to). I contacted ALL our trucking companies that deliver there, so that they wouldn't do it anymore and then yesterday he says 'these trucking companies
need to contact me when they get here. They can't be just driving in willy nilly.' Are you fucking kidding me buddy???

He ordered "ST. BOLTS". He was sent STOVE bolts. Well, apparently we should just ALL know that the ST. in ST. BOLT means STUD BOLT, not Stove, not standard, not stainless. I have an idea why don't you fucking just type the extra two letters so that there's no confusion.

He's also famous for the 'what do you mean this item isn't on the shelf' mentality where he thinks EVERYTHING should be stock.

Had a rough night at work, saw a local club was hiring a Bar Attendant, I applied.

Later i saw they were hiring for a Bar Manager, so I applied.

Got a phone call saying they received both my applications but the phone call was about the Bar Attendant position as Manager interviews were at a later date.

Went in for what I assumed was a 5-10 min interview, ended up working behind the bar for a paid hour. Told them I was only interested in the Manager position after the lack of hours offered, and they asked if I could do 2 shifts coming up anyway (on my days off from current job) and they’ll interview me for Manager position later (they are inconveniently going away for a week).

Hopefully it’s a plus doing the 2 shifts as I’ll already be introduced to club and procedures unlike other applicants and not a fuck around but we will see.

It’s a MUCH MUCH smaller club than my current work,
yet the Bar Attendant pay rate is EA Level 3! Which is what the supervisors & managers get at my work, which just goes to show how shady my current work is.



This club has 14 poker machines and 1 function room,
my current work has 150+ and 5 function rooms for example.

My current work morale is so low, every second person is saying they want to leave or are openly scrolling through SEEK on their breaks.

There’s only one person left from when I started, and they want to leave too. At least 70+ bar staff have come and gone while I’ve been there.

Was told the Functions manager asked for a raise tonight, was such a harsh no she was in tears. Same thing happened with the old duty manager who was fantastic, asked for a raise (was doing 60+ hour weeks and paid for 40) ..told no so he left.

Anytime someone raises a valid criticism the response is
“If you don’t like it, leave” hence the high turnover.

Question is which bar serves a little bit of the bubbly (tm)? That's where I'd stay.

THE FUCKING UNIONS AND TOOL I ORDERED 2 FUCKING WEEKS AGO THAT'S WHAT WAS DELIVERED YOU GREAT USELESS SACK OF FLESH!!!!

You both have the unfortunate reality of working with people.
Most people have no capacity beyond feeding and clothing themselves and finding a member of the opposite sex to slobber over.
People complain about manufacturing going overseas... But we are so lazy and stupid as a nation I think we should form cities for best of society and put an IQ test on the gate.

So the holidays begin. Sucks for carriers, less sucky for me as I leave after 8 hrs regardless of mail volume. Mondays are always heavy. I assume due to no Sunday delivery. Then if Monday is a holiday as most are... Tuesday is fucked. Makes me chuckle when uninformed push for eliminating Saturday delivery. Lol okay.

Why does mop water attract people like moths to a flame? I could take me time emptying trash, sweeping and wiping counters and not a soul. Yet the second the water comes out... everyone and their mother wants to check their PO Box first thing in the morning.

Cleaning restrooms are fun in that way too. I try and do those first thing when I get there since a lot aren't here yet and so I don't gotta worry about filling anything throughout the day. Kinda annoyed at people wanting to use it while I'm cleaning because it's always when I'm 90% done. Couldn't wait a minute? I'm sure it's just a normal response, but if you see a restroom cart blocking a doorway and hear something going down inside... just assume I'm in there. Don't ask if I'm done. If I was done I wouldn't be here! So I move the cart and let them in, but they wanna debate me. Are you sure? JUST GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

These clients coming from the mainland I have been dealing with lately are the most difficult I've ever worked with. I always try to be accommodating but I'm at my wit's end with these people, especially the woman.

She won't listen to any of my advice or suggestions. She won't get a pre-approval through any major lender, just some friend of a friend who told her initially she was qualified for $100K more than she really is. It took her six months to actually finally get something in writing from this guy, and it makes me worry if these other people actually did find these people a house, they couldn't get the loan done.

She constantly has me checking out properties she can't afford and that don't fit any of her requirements. She only wants to look in areas that are out of her price range so that's what I sent her emails about. Then, she finds these random hellholes on Redfin of Zillow and sends them to me and wonders why she didn't get this in her updates.

And these houses are perfect examples of the best house in the worst neighborhood. She had me go out last week to some craphole in a shit end of town to look at a place decorated like Liberace's bedroom. She walks out of the house talking about how she's ready to make an offer OVER ASKING. 30 minutes later, I get a email that says her husband won't go for it, won't even look at it.

Every place we look at, the husband shits on it. Says no. He finds places that are falling apart, total flips and half the square footage they need and says it's fine, we can build it back up and add on. I try to ask with what money, you'll have nothing left after closing. They ignore me.

I try and suggest alternatives, affordable, nice places in decent areas and she won't even open the email. Won't even acknowledge it.

It's maddening. I know clients can be difficult and picky but I've never dealt with anyone this straight up stubborn before. And before you ask, no...not a first time buyer. I've had difficult clients but no one of this level.

Day 12 of new job. So far I have accomplished nothing productive for the company. Still missing access to at least one computer program. Just got assigned a territory. Feeling pretty worthless. Company sees less than concerned they are paying me well to do nothing but look memes. Sounds like heaven to most. But it is unsettling and weird as I am motivated. I had a sit down with my boss just to remind him that I am here and want to do stuff.

I grew up in the Air Force and always fantasized about enlisting and being a "gate guard". Obviously that's not a real job, merely an assignment of a military police but as a kid I thought it would be amazing to do that and get paid. Dad told me I'd grow tired of it. Thought he was nuts. Then I started this job and the first few months spent over half the day browsing things like THE MCDONALDS REDDIT and found out he was kinda right... browsing spicy memes on the clock does eventually get old. A lot of the stuff I do at work isn't even mandatory of me. I just do it in some weird OCD-obsessed self-mastabatory goal of keeping busy. The past two postmasters have wanted the floors completely waxed, but never wanna bring me in on Sundays (125% premium pay I guess?) so I end up doing it piece by piece on Saturdays and it never looks quite right. I'm sure by time I retire and I've gone through another 5-10 bosses I'll still have not finished LMAO.

When I used to have down times at work when I could fuck off all I wanted working on my pro wrestling revisionist history plans, I'd often grow bored and guilty and think I should be doing something more productive.

Then, like now, I'm so slammed I wish things would go back to the boredom days.

I think the moral of the story is that the grass is always greener on the other side.

Unless you're high. Then most things are alright as is.

I dunno what it is, but the last few guys that have retired have been the most miserable people to be around as their tenures came to an end. Makes no sense to me as I figure once you get to that point you would give zero fucks. I would assume the last year of service you are already retired as I would guess you'd use that time to cash in any remaining sick leave because it's not like you gotta worry about them firing you over attendance. I don't plan to be a straggler hanging on for years. Trust me as long as shit doesn't hit the fan (and if it does we got other problems to worry about) and SS, TSP and my paltry pension are still a thing when I hit the minimum age I am out.
