Not really care. People who matter , including friends of a different race know the truth.

And in some cases they might be right. There is one race in particular I plain don't like and although I should be ashamed to admit it - I'm not. I make my judgements based on personal experiences.

My only black friend is basically a 20-something year old Uncle Ruckus, he’s more racist than UT’s post above me so I can’t use the friend excuse.

And aren't we all racist? Isn't it human nature to be at least a little racist to some degree?

Also, now I'm super curious to know which specific race/ethnic group UT hates. Don't keep us in suspense, Unethical Tyrant!

Somalians. And as I said and it's for a number of reason. There is a HUGE Somali population around here , most of which live rent free , job free , tax free and somehow manage to drive around 2018 Cadillac's while wearing clothing that costs more than my house payment. That's annoying but not enough to really warrant hate - it's just how our government works. 

The dislike comes more from personal experiences. I don't recall a single decent interaction with them , whether it be in public or even at work (where there is also a lot of Somalis who come in) they are always rude and entitled. And when they don't get their way they scream at you in their language - which is like nails on a chalkboard. 

There is local news stories about them creating scenes and even destroying property in local welfare offices because it's the little old receptionists fault behind the desk that they aren't getting their free food on time I suppose. 

Last but not least , my wife works in the hospital and has lost count how many times a poor Somali woman has come into the doctors with mutilated genitalia amongst other things. And we're talking from preteen years all the way up to middle aged women. 

I guess my real problem really isn't with the race in general , just Somali men. I actually have empathy for Somali women for what they must go through on a daily basis - because I hate interacting with the guys for even a second.

Fuck, I should've gone with my gut and included my guess in my previous post. I had a feeling it was going to be Somalis, knowing you're in the MN/WI area. That's such a strange-to-me place for such a large concentration of Somalis to resettle here. Any idea how that came to happen? I can't think of a more different climate than their home country. Maybe they were all desperate to see what snow and cold weather was like?

I guess whenever you've finally had enough, you could go avenge Black Hawk Down.

I'm not sure , I'd love to learn but as I've voiced - I've yet to run into a Somali I've been able to actually have a civil conversation with. 

There is a big Hmong presence around here too , but I love the Hmong people. They are some of the nicest , hardest working and sincere people you will find. I could talk for days with old school Hmong ladies and they bring me candy ... some of which is the most rancid shit you will ever taste. I just smile and put it in my pocket. 

Where I work is about 20 minutes out of the cities , and it's a melting pot of ethnicities that work there. White , Black , Thai , Laos , Hmong , Chinese , Japanese , Native American , Korean and even Middle Eastern. All are generally great people and a few I consider good friends of mine. One of my closest friends at work is a Hmong girl who's 22 years old and was born and raised here but was raised completely traditional. Me and her can talk forever about her culture , American culture ... what her parents have adopted and what they are dead set on. It's all very interesting and informative conversation that I enjoy. She's brought me some of her traditional dishes that she makes - some of it is too far out there for me and she gets it and isn't offended. Some of it is absolutely delicious. She makes fun of me for having white boy taste buds because I can't handle the same type of spice (and I like spicy) as she can. It's just one of my more treasured relationships because the conversations are never boring. One of my other friends is Laos and makes some of the best homemade Pho you'll ever find. 

I ramble a lot but that is to say , I don't think I'm generally an ignorant person who judges people based on where they are from. I don't have a problem with other ethnicities coming to America - I actually think it enriches our culture - provided they are interested in doing so. And I'm sure there are good Somali men out there but I have yet to encounter one and that is inevitably going to shape my view on them. 

All ist terms have lost their meaning over the years due to the constant use. Does getting called a Nazi have any meaning since Trump?

I'd like to think I'm not, but I think I've defintely subscribed to racial stereotypes without meaning to and even sometimes meaning to for a variety of stupid reasons. I absolutely cannot understand the hate and intolerance other cultures face on a day to day basis. Some of it because I don't face those same challenges and some of it is because I try not to judge anyone on their race, sexual preference, religion, but rather whether or not they are a good person and use their turn signal.

I suppose I’d try to consider why they said it and flesh out whether it was true.

While I don’t think of myself as racist I know that I have caught myself more than once thinking or saying something that feels like a stereotype that maybe could oftend somebody.

And then I'd stop. Think. Listen. And evaluate my own behavior, words and actions to understand how or why someone would have that opinion of me, and I'd work to better myself moving forward to ensure I represent myself the best way possible.

Any racist statements that a person of colour makes is only them reflecting back the racism they have faced in their life. According to the teacher of the course only white people can be racist!

I recently learned this too at an awkward couples dinner from a raging feminist, who added that apparently only white men can be racist (she was white too, in case that's a needed detail). You should've seen the shit show that unfolded when I tried to ask if she was perhaps confusing or conflating sexism and racism.

I don't think most people 40 y/o and younger really know what racism is. Each generation see it but not at the level of the past generations. What most people claim to be racism is mostly prejudice. And yes there is a difference.

Am I a racist? No. Am I prejudice? Yes.
