Enzo may have been an enormous piece of shit, yet Page is a stud, and it’s AEW, a brand you’d want to keep a good relationship with.

Well drama already. PAC refused to job on the AEW PPV or do a DQ finished so his match with Page was pulled from the show. AEW will air the Wrestlegate open challenge match from tonight show with a DQ finish for free on the net, but I guess PAC refused to do a match he was not winning on the actual PPV. In the open challenge match, Page answered PAC's open challenge then PAC got DQed when he low blowed Page then tore him apart with a chair. Reasoning is as Dragon's Gate Champion, PAC should not be losing to someone like Page. PAC will now not be appearing on the PPV and Page will get a new opponent. Should note PAC no showed wrestlecon due to vista issues as well, so now is 0-2 for appearing to promoted AEW dates. *deep breath* “That doesn’t work for me, brother.”

Part of me thinks this is a meta-gimmick using dirt-sheets to pull an angle either leading to PAC fighting under a mask or a really weird pure wrestling gimmick only in AEW but high flying and dirty fighting elsewhere. I really hope it is the second one as it would be hilarious for him to deny doing things outside of the fed claiming it must be an imposter or CGI when footage is shown of him in other feds. Feels like a very Bucks type thing to do. Also feels really weird this would be an issue so close to the show as if it was never discussed prior to this show. Also you just know the Bucks and Cody are gonna work the fuck out Meltzer when they can. That news release was just worked too strange with PAC not wanting to do a sports entertainment finish, then doing one on this other show anyway.

c, that kind of booking would get Vince McMahon thrown in a home. Why do we give The Elite a pass on some of the campiest, silliest stuff we've seen in years?

Wait, AEW are having shows now? Double or Nothing this Saturday on the 25th of May.
Then in June and July they're scheduled to have events.
Are you in?

Only half the story is being reported here. The idea is that 1) Dragon Gate won't allow their champion to loose and 2) AEW don't want non-clean finishes on their PPVs. Pac was likely going to beat Page, but then move to a match against Omega which he wouldn't have won, and so AEW didn't want to do Pac vs. Page with nothing to follow up on. I think it makes sense to pull the match now and replace it with something rather than advertise it and do something screwy at the show.

It’s been months. Why the week before unless it’s a) always been a bait and switch or b) PAC is still the mark for himself that quit WWE?

Honestly speaking Dragon Gate needs PAC more than he needs them. I get it sets a bad circumstance to let him get this but if PAC really wants to take the fall, then let him. What is Dragon Gate to say someone can't lose one match? What does losing one match mean in the long haul? How many times has PAC lost in recent memory to the WWE, hell Enzo beat him for the title.
I also think AEW could afford one gimmicky finish on their show. They seem a little too much to be above questionable finishes and act like they will be the only PPV who won't go through with said finishes.
Why they booked someone they are banking on as the future like Page to lose to PAC is beyond me. Could they have not have had Pentagon Jr or some other highly qualified Lucha take the pin vs PAC and have Page do something else, maybe get in an altercation with Moxley if he appears?
NOW if PAC was at a point via himself or Dragon Gate where he would not lose in AEW then I totally get why they pulled the plug from under him. You can't have that sort of protection so young in a Fed's life. It makes his matches be too predictable.

The entire clean wins and losses makes things too predictable.
Count outs mean nothing. Rope breaks mean nothing. Cheating means nothing.
They’ve put themselves into a box where everything is either black and white or they go against what they’ve campaigned on.

What I am thinking is if he does not show, he did not get his visa again and this is a cover to push this PAC who is better than these lowly indie guys. Hard to say if he believes his own hype or that is the gimmick. Something really seems off with this and it only makes sense as written if PAC is a mark for himself that is about to bury his career. Which may be true, but AEW working dirt sheets to do feuds is just so like them.
As for AEW not wanting sport entertainment style finishes, that is total BS. Cody and the Bucks love sports entertainment. They will avoid the shitty WWE booking style, but these guys are basically sports entertainment for the youtube generation. This all started with a crazy youtube series that booked angles without matches attached. I mean the Adam Cole vs Omega payoff was done via Being the Elite.

c - I follow the dirt sheets pretty closely, and I haven't seen one example of AEW truly working the dirt sheets. You've alluded to that a few times though. What's the big "GOTCHA!" moment that has occurred? Because I feel like you're conflating no updates (i.e. - TV) with "working the sheets."

Yeah, I haven't seen the Elite work the sheets either. I have seen them make light of dirt sheet rumours though, but it would be silly if they went that far for a bit.
I really hope that this isn't some niche product like Russo tried to make WCW in 1999.

If CODY knows what he's doing he gives The Big Guy whatever he wants and let's Ryback run through HANGMAN page and be the top big talent of AEW.

Russo was fine when he had strong characters to work with.
He was awful when he tried to make a new kayfabe involving dirt sheets. It may appeal to those who obsess over social media but I couldn't give a shit if PAC has a reputation for being difficult.

Ryback is a PR disaster waiting to happen. Also he only took a single loss to Matt Hardy in the indies and that was outside of Matt's hometown. Rumor has it Ryback will not take a booking if he has to lose leading to feds to do weird stuff to strip him of belts they let him have.

I watched the Page/Pac match because I've heard a lot of good things about Page, and he seems like the sort of guy who I could get invested in and get me watching AEW regularly beyond the women's division. He's got a good look and seems fun in the ring. I'd be interested in seeing what his longer matches are like because I find a lot of these Elite guys tend to go way over the top with the kickouts and no-selling in their attempts to make epic matches that it all just becomes a bit "eh, what's really the point" after a while.
