Anyone pick this up?
I’ve only played very small portions of the main games, the gun rail gams on Wii is the only one I’ve played more than ten minutes of.
I played the demo and enjoyed it but I’m unsure if it will be too slow paced for me or not

Resident Evil 2 was one of the greatest action/adventure games of it's era. It took the intensity of the original RE game and amplified it by taking the series to the unfamiliar surroundings of a deserted police station and finding new and creative ways to keep players on their toes. The best aspect of the game was the synergy between the two different campaigns, one decision in one play-file would affect the other which is something that games do very little of to these days. Judging from the reviews, Capcom have spared no expense bringing their 98 classic to 2019. Now you can't exploit hardware limitations to avoid difficult situations, now you really have to find creative ways to survive. The atmosphere of the game is as unsettling as it needs to be and the decision to go with the RE4 behind the shoulder point of view changes the perspective enough to keep the game fresh despite being based around a 1998 game design mind-set.
Like the 2002 remake of Resident Evil, I believe this has serious Game of the Year potential. It's just a shame that it's competing against a game I've been waiting 13 years to play.

Big Pete did you see the botch IGN did with their review? IGN never ceases to amaze.
It really does highlight how the video game review 'business' is losing relevancy. Even YouTubers I feel are far too quick to join the echo-chamber and rarely form their own opinions without parroting somebody else.

They didn't realise there was a B scenario and therefore their review was incorrect about certain points of the game.

Instead of selecting New Game + to start Claire's campaign, they selected New Game and just gender swapped Leon. Then they complained that Claire's campaign was merely a palate swap of Leon's.

Haha, greatness. Scenario A and Scenario B are fundamental RE2.

While I still haven't got the game (hope it comes in the mail today), I am disappointed to find out there's no infinite rocket launcher...such a quintessential RE2 reward.

Started playing it, being such an avid RE2 replayer probably makes it more difficult, trying to unlearn such burnt in habits. The station layout is both familiar and confusing all at the same time, since some sections are completely intact while others have new twists and turns, be going down a corridor you recognize, bam, "Where the fuck am I?" . I do like that they have gone back to the survival horror bullet management of the originals, sometimes it's better to just take off a few of the zombies, and avoid the otherS. Though how many head shots they take can be annoying, hitting them literally between the eyes should drop 'em at the very least.
Barely into it though, just taking a break.

I’ve never played much more than a few minutes of RE games and I feel like I’m one of the gamers that ruined the franchise for everyone 😂.
“ I want more Bullets!” “I can’t see” “I don’t want to do puzzles I want to shoot zombies”
Pretty much me playing Res so far, especially with the zombies being bullet sponges.
Yeah I haven’t played survival horror before, slowly warming up to it.
I own Resident Evil 5 but never played it, maybe I should stick to that instead 😒.

The campaigns in RE games (especially the early ones) aren't long, so you may as well gut it out. The games have a wonderful progression system, so by the end you should be mowing down enemies. At least, that was the case in RE7.

Shouldn't be too long, the infinite weapons unlock at 2 1/3-3 hours a campaign (not counting cutscenes), so 5-6 hour total once you really know what you're doing. I'd guess 8-10 (+ cutscenes) for a first run. And it turns out they do have Infinite Rocket launcher, you have to beat Leaon's campaign in under 2 1/2 hours on hardcore mode, using no infinite weapons, and saving no more than 3 times

I feel like this is type of game you only get enjoyment out of if you play along with the walkthrough.
I have heaps of shotgun ammo but no shotgun, been told I should have one already (why make it missable?) and I’m just annoyed trying to find the power panel parts. Was trying to play with no spoilers at all but that’s looking unlikely as I’m constantly getting stuck. I suck at this so much 😂

Sort of a common thing with the early RE's, the first time through can be a bit overwhelming at times, really flows better the second time and more through (more so once you start unlocking infinite weapons, at which point you can replay the game just to have some fun). Especially this one, as so far early, areas seem more congested with zombies than I remember, so it's a bit trickier to poke around rooms and clear them out (also more complicated due to inventory limitations forcing the leaving and returning for items).

Finished up, it's a game I've got a love/hate relationship with. At it's core, I positively love it. Honestly, if I'd never played the original, it may have possibly topped my list (probably still 4 though).
I was worried about the mechanics, because RE6 did zombies like shit, but THESE feel like RE zombies. On steroid really, because those fuckers can take a fucking beating. If you've ever seen (or just want to youtube) "Me, Myself, and Irene," I had a cow scene moment...I shot her 3 clean shots to the face and dropped her, stood over her aiming between the eyes, dropped 3 more shots, so, I figure good and dead. I start walking away, I hear this bitch scraping behind me, crawling towards me, I flip around, BAMBAM, double tap to the brain, now Mr. X's big ass is on the way, so I turn to run (and this is a narrow spot I need cleared) I hear this bitch AGAIN, I just turn around and unload a clip into her. FUCK. YOU. Some of the zombies take WAY too many shots directly in the face. This is pure RE gameplay with RE4 mechanics, and I love that.
BUT...they really chopped so many of the best bits of the original. Many of what were epic moments are just kind of throwaway, even with as relentless as Mr. X was, never felt quite as foreboding as the OG Tyrant (definitely no Nemesis, but that's RE3). While I appreciate they actual do better at developing Leon and Ada, in turn Claire and Sherry now feel entirely undeveloped as a dynamic. You barely have a full conversation until the end of the game. Also, you don't get like the original where you and Leon cross paths a couple times, and Leon even catches some glimpses of Sherry; here, Clair talks to Leon 3 times, the opening, at a side gate (barely), and then end. And the two sides just feel way more alike than originally.
Still, great game, I preferred the narrative content of the original more, but from a technical standpoint this is superior in every way. Had they just followed a little bit more. Oh well, 8/10

I just gave up, I don’t think a single game has infuriated me more without me enjoying it (Cuphead,Dark Souls,DKC).
Just wasn’t the game for me, annoyed that my choice was between this and Ace Combat 7 and now Ace isn’t on shelves anywhere in my area anymore. My own fault for not researching it but I didn’t know how puzzle based it was.

First it was Half Life 2, now it's the Resident Evil series, when will this madness end?
How far into the game did you make it? Before I pick the game up, I want to play through the N64 version just to create that comparison and see how faithful the adaptation was.

I think I’ve realised puzzle based shooters aren’t for me 😂. Not far passed the first boss. Gave the game to my gf so she’ll probably end up platinuming it and get more use out of it than me

Faithfulness is a 50/50 sort of thing, they altered the good majority of the story content, with just key beats remaining the same. Even the levels are mixed bag of exactly what you'd expect, and completely fucking different.
