It's the 'gotcha' fans who are the dirt worse. On this occasion, Meltzer's string of thoughtless observations eventually caught up to him, but there have been so many instances where somebody will take 5 seconds from a match, show it to Cornette just to get a reaction.

As in 'real life' - the audience has turned into such a sensitive, easily offended lot and their mistake is not recognizing this. Bullshit. The audience has just grown to more people that aren't ignorant men. Calling out stuff like this is much needed in this industry and the fans should be holding more people accountable for their actions.

I used to listen to Dave and Bryan for about 6 months almost every week when I wasn't watching WWE regularly and their commentary was interesting. I have never been into star ratings so I have never factored them into my assessments and critiques good bad or whereever on that wide spectrum I may fall. I don't care for his nicknames for certain wrestlers like calling Junkyard Dog the junk food dog or the kinda creepy way he talks about Liv Morgan's potential to be a star. I only really care about his opinion in the context of a podcast like 83 Weeks or Between The Sheets. Whatever the subject is Dave's thoughts are used as a comparison point which creates various discussions.

Meltzer is on the warpath at the moment. So on his show, he offended a bunch of fans by giving Balor/Styles a back-handed compliment. Essentially he said it was the best match on the show, but after attending the PWG show, it paled in comparison to everything he had seen on that show. This isn't anything new for Dave, for years he's been spruiking about how he has to scale matches up or down based on the company they were performed in. So a **** NJPW match to him would be a **** 1/2 star match in the WWE. I can sort of see where Dave is coming from, but I don't put as much stock into the matches. There's more to a performance than what happens inside the ring and comparing PWG where the premise is that every match is an epic to a thrown together Balor/Styles match is like comparing apples and oranges. Two matches going for two different objectives in a company where the schedule is a lot more demanding. While I agree with his overall argument that fans should expand their horizons and seek out other companies, what he values out of Pro Wrestling doesn't account for the artists intent. I also don't think he takes into account how much of a difference being in that atmosphere has on his perception. See to me that shreds Dave's credibility in that kind of conversation. If he's unwilling to look at what kind match the wrestlers are trying to tell and base his viewpoints on his own criteria without firstly assessing and determining what the match actually is trying to accomplish then his opinion means jack shit. No wonder he compares everything through the prism of New Japan.

Peyton's reply to Dave I think earned her a lot of fans. That side of her is almost never showed off.
