I didn’t want to derail UT’s happy thread with @ness and I talking about unhygienic people 😂. Everyone is guilty of not smelling their greatest after a very long day at one point or something but have you ever encountered someone that had terrible body odour? The stereotype with nerds having poor hygiene definitely exists for a reason, which is a shame as it makes the rest of us that love “nerd culture” look bad. I went to a Street Fighter tournament casual day and left pretty early, the mass amount of BO being one of the key reasons. Supanova isn’t much better (kinda like Comic-Con) I’m just glad it’s in the middle of winter as it’s stuffy enough there as it is. If you think I’m exaggerating, tournament organisers have had to put rules in place for Smash Bros. compete.kotaku.com/smash-players-plead-with-each-other-to-please-for-the-1826150759One of my ex co-workers was telling me that the security guard had to kick a guy out of the Alice Springs casino because he reeked. He tells the guy to go home, have a shower get some fresh clothes and he can come back. The guy comes back the next day. Wearing brand new RM Williams Hat, shirt, jeans and boots. .. Still had not showered. 🤦🏻♀️ Have you had the awkward moment of having to tell someone they smelled bad? I’ve had to tell my co-worker she needed to put some deodorant on, but we’re friends and she has no sense of smell so she was thankful I told her and made sure it was in private. My dad had to share a small office with his co-workers when he was a teacher and he had to be the guy to tell one of the teachers he really needed to fix his hygeine. Apparently he didn’t take it very well.

I don't know what it is about nerd culture that produces the foul stank. Is it because they're too into their hobbies that showering is very low on their list of priorities? Experienced it my first comic shop trip and have noticed it almost every time I've gone to a similar place. I've never noticed it at work, but for the most part I'm not usually right "on" people to have to smell them. When I was being trained for a different position the guy smelled. It was rough. I didn't wanna say anything though because ya know. I still wonder if the other two trainees noticed because they didn't either...

Casino's are the worst for this , over the years we've had to kick out a ton of people for their body odor - it does get a little awkward but I've gotten use to the conversation. In my old place we used to offer some a complimentary hour or two hotel stay in hopes they would catch the hint.
Even worse is when people shit or piss themselves and act like nothing is wrong and try to sit there hoping nobody notices the smell. Have had two people shit themselves and dozens piss their pants. Gamblers are the worst.

Gamblers are the worst. My work (I work at a club) has about 150+ poker (slot) machines so I’ve seen similar horror stories. I’m working on the gaming floor one afternoon and I hear a sudden burst. Not like a tap dripping, More like a hydrant just broke. I turn around and this lady in a dress just pisses all over the floor and looks me straight in the eyes as I look up to look away from the mess being created on the floor. She then just continues playing the machine as I have to go explain to the operations manager what happened. Also a couple that would constantly drink the free soft drinks (pop/soda) and never get up, then someone alerted me to the fact that they wore adult diapers to combat the need to get up 🤮. How they found this out I don’t know. Don’t even get me started on Gamblers when there has been a real fire evacuation, I’m sure RT can elaborate on people further 😒.

Now I finally know where UT works! A casino! How exotic. Not nearly as exotic as one might think , especially in this area. I've been a table games dealer/supervisor for 15 years now. The money is great but the people can be a chore - it's why I have little patience these days. To the point of Systems thread - yeah it's bad. Gambling is a terrible addiction for some people to where it's not uncommon for them to not want to get up and go to the bathroom - or in worse scenarios I've seen a handful of diabetics have seizures because they won't leave the table/slot to eat something for days at a time. One old lady who I honestly felt bad for , probably in her 80's crapped in her pants at a table one day - I more less blame her family who were too fixed on gambling to properly look after her. Anyways we had to open up our employee wardrobe to get her a uniform to change into. The worst part of it all is the lady sitting next to her was eat (which is gross by itself at the tables) but didn't blink an eye or move an inch. The smell was strong across the whole pit and I have no idea how she handled it.

I didn't wanna say anything though because ya know. I still wonder if the other two trainees noticed because they didn't either... I think most of them do shower somewhat regularly, but it's also lifestyle that makes their particular odors more rank.
It's like... you know how you can tell when someone's been drinking? Even if they shower and eat tons of breath mints, it's almost like the booze wafts out of their pores? I'm figuring that, but instead of whisky it's someone whose diet consists mostly of Cheetos and Mountain Dew. They're fundamentally unhealthy, so they'll smell unhealthy. Get them off the frozen pizza and onto something mostly chicken and veggie and they'll probably smell better from just that alone.
Also, that reminds me of the best giveaway I've ever seen (and I'm pissed that I didn't get one). It was at Anime Expo early-mid 2000s, and it was a little toy inside a bar of soap.
(Like this, except with something anime. My Google-fu is failing me and I can't find an actual picture.)
It's both implied and the vendor explicitly stated, if you want the toy inside you HAVE TO USE THE SOAP.
It was glorious.

My job is helping people get jobs, so yeah I’ve had to have the talk. Not fun but sometimes very necessary.

I have a sensitive sense of smell, if I have to work with you I will know if you showered in the morning or not. It's disgusting to me that anyone can not shower in the mornings, worst is probably people who have a drink or two the night before and don't shower in the morning, they smell like the carpet in a bar.
