You know you're getting older when: You spend a portion of your Sunday going though plastic bags and boxes and sorting them into ‘good bag/box’ and ‘recycle’. :suspic: click on it to see the full thread - literally everyone thinks they are the only people who do this!

We always used plastic grocery bags as bin liners, now we have to pay for reusable grocery bags... And buy bin liner bags.. I don't understand.

Colorado instituted $0.10 per disposable plastic and paper bag this year. Next year stores won't be allowed to give out bags at all. Getting rid of "single" use plastic is fine, but paper is renewable, recyleable, and biodegradable. Paper bags should be what we move to.

I think here it's about 15 cents for paper 50c reusable plastic $1 or $2 for an resusable Enviro bags They are possessed though... We purchase heaps of them but they're never in the car when you go to do the shopping, then are there immediately after.

For us they usually go into the bin, despite paying 15 cents each for them.
They should be part of the service, but as a former Supermarket manager, I know there is a notable cost to the business.
If they cost the business just 1 cent a bag and most stores see on average around 35,000 transactions a week. Let's pretend every transaction takes 2 bags. That's $700 a week in cost to the stores CODB. Let's say the business has 1,000 stores nationally. That's $700,000 on plastic bags nationally, each week. There's 52 weeks in a year, that's a $36,400,000 expense annually.
Making the customer pay for it at 15 cents a bag... well, that's a lot. No wonder Woolworths posted a $2.42 billion dollar profit last financial year.

It's a lot, and that's the point, to encourage people to bring their own reusable shopping bags instead of using the store's disposable plastic bags.
It's become common practice in England for shoppers to have a stash of reusable canvas or large thick plastic bags that they bring to the store every time.
To me it seems like a great idea.

If you can find the bloody things... I reckon we have bought 50 of them, but I never know where more than 5 of them are at a time.

They're always in the car and you only remember they exist when you're at checkout. And honestly if I was a cashier I'd hate dealing with them just because I know people are nasty af and don't clean their shit.

In fact during he lockdowns, if you brought your own bags you had to bag yourself. I prefer banging my own anyway… they do it wrong.

Nearly all our grocery stores are primarily self check-out these days, or moving that way.

I prefer banging my own anyway… they do it wrong. The amount of times I have had a checkout chick separate my cold items even though I've loaded them on the conveyor belt together. Absent-mindedness would be one thing (it must be terribly boring doing that for hours on end), but you have deliberately chosen to mix up my organisation! AND YOU SQUASHED MY BREAD

Second worst is the disinterested check out person waving an item over the scanner and it doesn't beep and they keep waving it randomly over the scanner without looking down to see where the barcode is to or bothering to hide the bored look on their face.

I'm consistently waking up somewhere between 3am-5am to go pee. This never started happening until a few months ago. Is it getting older, or is it the fact I've started eating a lot more in the past few months to try and bulk up? Unclear.

I'm a tall and skinny guy, and I never put on weight despite eating far more than my friends and family. I've been consistently the same weight for over a decade, whether I've been exercising or not.
So I was very shocked when, maybe six months ago, my trainer told me I was eating far less than I should if I want to put on more muscle mass. I couldn't believe it. The person who eats more than everyone else doesn't eat enough. It led to a fairly big lifestyle change but I'm glad to be eating more because I love eating.
Not a fan of my sleep being interrupted though. Anyone else have this bladder issue?

It’s part of getting older for sure. If you had recent heath screenings that were ok… including prostate check it’s not to much to worry over.

To follow up on the diabetes thing - a former coworker who was very fit got put in the ICU by COVID. Turned out he had undiagnosed diabetes type 1 for 40 years. His main symptom was going to the bathroom a lot at night. No rush, but the next time you’re at the doctor get blood sugar checked.

Holy shit. That is crazy to have undiagnosed type 1 that long. This has happened recently to my wife's best friend's husband. Super healthy guy, does not have a poor lifestyle. Works out regularly. Last year he wasn't feeling great near when his yearly physical was scheduled. Did bloodwork and determined he had diabetes. Working theory remains type 2, but does not make sense. Assumption is that he's been living with type 1 his whole life (he's 35).
