Both women's matches were really fun. The Joshi tag was especially great, I really liked seeing Japanese talent getting to wrestle each other and not hold back. The speed, in particular, was impressive. I love Riho.

Awesome to see the original Queen of Kong grace us with her presence for this show. Funny to have to have made this post, not knowing that Awesome Kong was being part of it as well. So we got both an Awesome Kong, and the Queen of Kong.

Riho was amazing tonight. Yuka Sakazaki as well. One of them will odds are be in the finals of the next MYC <.<
I really want a Joshi showcase match on every show.

I can't believe WWF/WWE didn't make more use of Aja back in the 90's she is so charismatic and bitchy as a heel, ad knows how to work the American crowd. I lol'd at her mocking Riho trying to tag her partners in.

Also, I thought the fatal four way was pretty solid, if not anything truly great. I feel like the Western side of the women's division in AEW is a collection of talent's who are very much works in progress. I saw a lot of promising signs from Kylie and Britt, especially even if things weren't 100% perfect. getting a vet who can still go like Emma or Mercedes Martinez would be a really good idea for the division. It was cool that Sadie Gibs got a little hype video in the pre-show as well.

I enjoyed the women's matches... more so the Joshi match, but I'm all in on Britt Baker as well.
Awesome Kong being added to the triple threat match was cool... or rather would have been cool if she actually did anything. I won't lie was disappointed that they kept her out of the match for the most part.

I thought this was a really great start and enjoyed both matches. The Joshi showcase was fantastic and I was pleasantly surprised as to how each of the women really stood out individually. A couple of Riho’s spots were absolutely fantastic.
I thought the four way was good too, and while I can see Lony’s point, I also think they did the other three ladies a solid by not making the match all about Kong. It seems as though there’s going to be a storyline of Brandi having her preferred ladies (Kong and maybe Tenille) and I don’t mind that at all.

The women's match was just not really well put together. The talent was there but the structure was not.

Also a good hype video in general, the lighting could be a little better though.

Finally watched both matches. I was most impressed by Riho and Yuka Sakazaki. I can’t think of any American woman that moves like they do. They’re both so explosive in their execution, it’s scary.
Hikaru Shida didn’t do as much as her teammates but from a marketing perspective, she looked the most polished.

First women's match announced for the next AEW show
Should be good hopefully Nyla gets to show something more. Working with two tiny talents should make her power stuff look great. I'm also happy they're having the Japnese wrestler sintecat with the western wmen already instead of segregating them.

They really need to do a one on one women's match soon. The talk of equality is pretty meaningless if all of the women's matches are multi-women features with no real rivalries or stakes. It's infinitely more difficult to care about their women's roster when they're being presented like this.

I think that's a little bit unfair, this is literally their second show (and they have a 1v1 booked for the third show). I don't think this match would suddenly mean more if it was Nyla vs Riho or Yuka.
Brandi also said there would be at least one more women's match on this card.

I guess I'm counting All In as well. It probably is a little soon to be complaining, as they have to introduce most of the women to a new audience - but I really think the multi-women matches just feel less important. Maybe that's the old fashioned part of me, but I guess I think matches should be one on one or two on two unless there's a good reason for them not to be.
I missed Brandi saying there'd be another match - that's cool. Would love Britt Baker in a one on one match, against Kong (Aja or Awesome), or Allie or Tenille if they can sign her.

I think a 1v1 match would help build the characters of these wrestlers so we know their story. But I think their mind set right now if you are ordering these ppvs you already know their story so just showcase as many of them as possible. Then when the tv deal starts then introduce them proper to new viewers in 1v1 matches.

It will be interesting to see who they go with as champ.
I'm assuming they're going to want to have Rae chase the title as the underdog face, so probably not her.
Awesome Kong has mainstream exposure and is popular but really has lost a few steps in the ring.
Britt Baker and Shida are both good picks imo. Maybe even a big free agent signing like Emma would work well too.

My money is on Britt Baker. She'd be a good inaugural champ to build the division around, she's talented, she's got a big online presence and can separate herself from being "Adam Cole's girlfriend."

Britt would definitely be the bookies favourite but I think giving it to Hikaru would be a really strong statement. surrender summed it up perfectly in his DoN post.

Looks like Meltzer is saying that Riho has decided to move to the US and join AEW full time. I'm glad as she was one of the talents I was most impressed by at the last PPV. Would love to see her vs Kylie.

PB, it seems you're wish was answered on a monkey's paw. There is going to a one on one women's match at fyter fest. Unfortunately, it will be Kylie Rae vs Leva Bates. hopefully, Kylie can carry her to something solid.

The first women's match at Fyter fest was just decent at best. AEW need's to rethink their ideas on comedy because their attempts so far have been bad. The librarian gimmick is just annoying in a making me want to change the channel type of way
The actual wrestling was okay I guess? Nothing horrible, Allie did pretty well. Leva, however, wrestles like she's an actor on Glow. Everything she does look's super soft and not convincing in the slightest. When she's doing moves like suplexes or submissions it's not as bad, but her strikes are just putrid and she's not really athletic.
There are dozens of women on the Indy scene who can do what Leva does 10 times better, and who are a good deal younger as well.
Hopefully, the triple threat match is better.

The Triple threat was really fun if kinda sloppy at points, Yuka isn't really a good base forRiho's more intricate spots because of how small she is. Nya really came off more impressive in this match , and i liked the story of the match where she could have won it a couple of times but chose to try and cause more damage instead. The match was kind of like the Gail-Kong-ODB triple threat on steroids. The crossbody spot was really cool.
