It's disappointing the crop of Joshi wrestlers AEW has decided to pick from is pretty disappointing most of them aren't bad per say , but a lot of them don't really stand out like past/current Josh wrestlers have in Mainstream wrestling. Even Shida or to a lesser extent Riho who at the very least have had a number of very solid matches in AEW still imo wouldn't crack the top 5 in terms fo most impressive Joshi runs in western promotions. Now certainly they aren't being helped by how they're being used, most of them are relegated to short enhancement matches on Dark, that aren't formatted in an interesting/exciting way. It just seems odd to me me to bring in the likes of Ryu Mizunami and Yuka Sakazaki only to wrestle exclusively on the web shows. There are ,many Joshi wrestlers who can succeed in these conditions based on talent alone ( see Hamada having great sub 3 minute sprints with the likes of Taylor and Sarita), but they ones they have chosen just aren't. I guess it's just that they like Ryu and Yuka as experienced hands who are safe working with the inexperienced women on the Youtube shows, but I totally agree that it's not making for particularly entertaining matches. I don't really have any desire to see either of them in bigger roles though... Riho is the one who is really in purgatory at the moment, she couldn't even crack the TBS tournament bracket! But they have to fly them out and stuff and I'm assuming board them as well for the durations of their stays . It doesn't seem cost effective to bring them over and then just have wrestle enhancement matches against green talents when you could use the likes of someone like Nicole Savoy or Hollidead instead for cheaper. Riho is a weird case, why not have her have a feud on Dark with Emi and play up their history together? Instead we get random matches with green jobbers everyone once in a while.

I enjoyed the Ford/Soho match. They are good dance partners. Penelope is a good athlete and uses crafty tactics to annoy & fluster opponents. She made Ruby's offense look strong.

Not specifically AEW related but Ruby has a match with Alex Shelley in Beyond next month - which I'm officially deeming her last chance to prove herself. If she can't look good working with him she ain't gonna do it with anyone.

In another example of AEW desperately needing better PR, Tony Khan cut off a female interviewer asking about women's wrestling to go on a rant about how he didn't get enough credit for loaning talent to the NWA. It's another storm in a tea-kettle and not as big a deal as social media are making out, but still. He could have answered that question so much better and in fairness AEW are making a concerted effort to feature the women's division. Something to the effect of hey we had some set-backs with injuries and the global pandemic but we've made efforts to give women more time and with the TBS Title being added we'll continue to give women more screen time and ensure we have the best women's division in Pro Wrestling.

I think you summed it up pretty well Pete. Unfortunately the way Tony talks he leaves himself open for criticism even when he's in the right. I think he's more than entitled to be upset about what happened with Billy/NWA taking all the credit for Empower and not acknowledging his contribution because without Leyla, Velvet & Kilynn it wouldn't have been nearly as good a show, but by interrupting the woman asking the question he sounded like a dick.

It'll be interesting to see how they'll spread out the talent once the TBS title is introduced.

I don’t think it reflects well on Tony tbh. Maybe in a vacuum it’s harmless, but this is a promoter that most weeks books one women’s segment and whose current women’s championship angle is about who has the best ass. Maybe sort that out first Tony before asking people to thank you for spending your daddy’s money.

Another ppv another women's title match with underwhelming crowd reactions because they couldn't be bothered to build a decent story, , or have the match have any suspense at all.

In entirely unsurprising news, it seems like Kiera is already a bit fed up:
"I like the girls in the [AEW] locker room. A lot of girls, obviously my girlfriend Diamante worked there before I worked there so I was there backstage a lot of the times like helping girls do makeup because I do makeup sometimes. I also have a lot friends in the locker room that were excited for me to come over there. They’re like, ‘Are you gonna come over here? I wanna wrestle you, I wanna wrestle you’ like Tay [Conti] and Red Velvet and of course one of my best friends Big Swole, Nyla [Rose], a lot of the girls were just like, ‘We want to wrestle you. I wanna have a bomb match with you because I know –’ and I’m like, ‘Yeah, I wanna have bomb ass matches with you too.
Okay, so I’m here’ but I feel like, there’s a lot of moving parts going on at AEW right now so I feel like a lot of things are getting lost in the shuffle and I feel like I’m one of those things. But, I’m just trying to just stay positive and just focus on what I can control which is just staying ready for whenever that opportunity does present itself and I’m excited because NWA, I still am able to do indie bookings under my contract and do things that honestly I can do because of my contract so I’m able to still work and go out and things and with the time that I do have off, I’m able to just focus on myself and working out and my move set and going to training or getting bookings. Hopefully like I said, overseas or something with the time that I have off because it’s just — because it’s only a couple of shows and the Dynamite — not the Dynamite, the Dark and the Elevation tapings are kind of sporadic when it comes to filming. I’m not really sure like the next time I do work but I just try to stay ready for like I said, whenever the opportunity [comes]."
I've dipped out in the last few weeks and it sounds like I haven't missed much.

Yeah, they have more women than they need based on how they use women on their show. They need to get some factions going with the women to get them on tv every werk even when they aren't wrestling.
Also, can we get tegan knox in aew?

Also, can we get tegan knox in aew? So she can get her obligatory title feud with Britt which she'll lose and then go and spend the bulk of her time having squash matches with random indy talents on Dark pr Elevation , while appearing on Dynamite or Rampage once every couple months?

They had Hyann on Dark again in another squash match where she got zero offense vs Ruby.

C's just suddenly obsessed with the Knockouts because Mercedes is there. Really the division has been at an almost identical level for years now. I see Tegan as someone very similar to Ruby - dramatically overrated for her actual talent. She's fine but absolutely not someone who has been held back or has a great deal of star power. Given her injury history if I were a promoter I wouldn't consider her.

Just not a fan of that Kylie Ray Goody Good thing Nox had going on. She can find her way in a tag team with someone with more personality which is what happened with her in WWE with Team Kick and Shotzi & Nox.

Rosemary Kimber Lee Mercedes Mickie James Iconics Deonna Purrazzo Chelsea Green Kiera Hogan Nevaeh Havok
And they get used. Not sure why people cannot see there is real talent here.

Ruby isn't anything special in the ring but she at least has a bit of a character that's not rehabbing from injury. TNA's women's roster is fucking hot. Rosemary Kimber Lee Mercedes Mickie James Iconics Deonna Purrazzo Chelsea Green Kiera Hogan Nevaeh Havok And they get used. Not sure why people cannot see there is real talent here. This is dumb because you've got me arguing against the Knockouts even though I like them, and I follow/post about the division more than anyone. Kiera and Nevaeh aren't even there anymore and you've left off Jordynne, Rachael & Tasha who are better and more interesting than a lot of those you listed. They do a decent job booking their women but it's not suddenly better now that it has been for a while now.

From what I've heard, as great as the KO division looks on paper, in reality it's actually a little underwhelming and management isn't really behind anyone other than Deonna. A lot of the women aren't performing to their reputation and they're not doing enough to get fans invested. In that way, AEW is actually doing better because on top of Britt, they're also pushing Ruby and Jade Cargill among others.
To me this could all be easily remedied if they turned Dark Elevation into a bonafide C-show where the guys who they don't want to feature on Dynamite can go and build hype up for themselves. It's so difficult to get over working squash matches, I think giving these guys and girls something to do on the C-show would at least give them momentum or allow them to make a call whether they're a fit for the AEW main roster.
I also agree with you nazzer that they need to have more stables and I find it odd that the Red Velvet, Kilynn King and Big Swole group never went anywhere.

She is probably use to Impact having multiple segments for women. In AEW on dynamite you get one match, a Britt interview, and maybe another interview. So very easy to go months without being on tv. And since she brought up Diamonte and Big Swole both were last on Dynamite was in 2020.

Not sure why people cannot see there is real talent here. Kiera and Neveah aren't on the roster anymore. Out of that list only Deona would make a list of the top 10 female wrestlers in the mainstream scene. I find it odd you didn't even put Jordynne or Masha on your list when they would have made your argument a bit stronger. If you go by match quality even in a year that has been pretty meh for both AEW and WWE, the both still destroy what Impact has produced despite having one of the better female talents out there as champ for most of the year , really only Deonna vs Masha was truly memorable. Now Mickie is the champ and she's been wrestling the same match for the past 20 years. Impact has way too many slow brawlers on the roster , there's way too little flash, athleticism , or innovation . Taylor Wilde in her brief return really stood out wrestling the standard el Fuego squared circle style.

For all the talk the KO's get they produce very little in the way of memorable feuds or matches. They really wasted Deonna's reign having her wrestle a bunch of slow brawlers like ODB over and over. Her match with Masha showed what she could do with a high quality opponent though.

How not to be the bad person just don't use a person for long enough and they will just want to leave on their own. That's a bit harsh I think, particularly in this instance. Swole's Crohn's disease has clearly played a pretty big role in her inconsistent usage, and as unfortunate as it is, that's never not going to be an issue. I like her generally, but she's not that good of a talent to override it.

I would have said the same thing about a few different people just happen she was the first this happened too. 2022 will have other examples. It isn't a knock at Swole, but there are a few buyer's remorse wrestlers that they leave on dark and have no plans to use on tv.

Gets tiresome that black wrestlers feel undervalued and start to vent on social media over this. Brandi, Big Swole, now Cargill. They blame their inability to connect to the audience and their lack of success on racism and because of their skin color. Sonny Kiss hasn't been on Dynamite in over a year, she doesn't bitch about this profusely on social media and takes advantage of the air time she gets even if it's AEW Dark.
I don't ever remember Awesome Kong whining about this. When someone like Bubba the Love Sponge said something out of place, she settled it internally.

That is combination of AEW low time focus on women and the fact that most of the black women in AEW are green or aren't that good. Kiera though has also complained and she does have a reason to since she is one of the better women in the division and gets almost nothing.
And in over in WWE land you have Bianca main eventing ppvs and getting over with fans. Even her name mention in store last week which was really amazing since I barely ever hear people randomly talk about wrestling. And fans usually will get behind Naomi anytime she is giving anything remotely decent. This is not a race issue this time. It is a combination sex issue and talent issue.

People are ragging on her because she's green and being pushed when she doesn't deserve it, taking away time from more deserving talent. When Athena (Ember moon) comes in and gets shot straight to the top and the top and is over with the fans, will Jade somehow say it's because of her skin colour?
