Is that Serena Deeb as the "pledge" for Brandi's new collation? Because it looks like they redid what she did back in the Straight Edge Society (the hair cutting/shaving).

Serena works as a trainer in NXT... Anyways that Stattlander vs Shida match was excellent. Apparently Statlander has singed with AEW, which is great for the division she has a nice hard-hitting innovative style that I like.

Kris vs Bea on Dark, and vs Britt tonight were both pretty damn good matches. Her character is a little corny but Kris' matches are really fun.
I really don't like the Nightmare collective that much. I'd much rather have Kong lead a stable by herself she doesn't need a mouth piece at all. She actually ran a stable in Japan that had some entertaining backstage segments that used to be on youtube but I can't find noow for the life of me.

Didn't mind the match at all, agree that Kris is enjoyable in the ring.
The whole presentation just irks me too much though. I can't deal with JR's pathetic PC victim act, I can't deal with them acting like Kris is weird when the entire promotion is full of geeks and nerds - either embrace it or don't do stuff like that at all, and I can't deal with Brandi's terrible acting and her desire to be a cool heel - it's all just yuck.

Did I watch a different match to you guys? Kris vs Britt was awful. Almost every spot was sloppy, slow, discoordinated, or all three. Britt Baker in particular looks like she's wrestling in slow motion. I didn't think it was possible for her Sling Blade to get any worse than it has been, but she managed it. That's a pretty remarkable achievement. The only good move in the match was the finish.

Their good matches are average to below average of other companies. They realize and heard the criticism that their women's division is the weakest part of their show and plan on taking steps to fix it next year. I am not sure what said steps will be but something has to change.
Brit Baker is pretty amazing being able to attempt to do two hard to reach goals at the same time being both a wrestler and dentist. The problem is both of those require a lot of dedication and to be really good at one she may have to sacrifice one.

Why exactly is Riho the champion? I just don't get her appeal that you would push her as a face of your company.

I guess because there isn't anyone better. The division isn't very good at the moment. Actually, Hikaru Shida would have been my preferred inaugural champion. She has a good look and is probably the best female on the roster.

I don't understand the purpose of The Nightmare Collective. Kong would make sense as a treat to Riho but she hardly wrestles. More confusing to me though is Brandi's role. What is she supposed to be? because it seems like she's just being a heel for the sake of it. Her motives are unclear.

The reason for the Nightmare Collective is to trick you into thinking that Brandi is good at anything outside of being Cody's manager.

I'm glad that Hikaru Shida & Kris Stattlander are around. The rest of the active division ranges from trash to passable/marginal.

Um, they didn't cut her off because her mic work was bad. They cut her off to sell how rude she was being, don't work yourself into a shoot brother. Britt's work the last two dynamite's has been so good. She is leaning hard into the rich bitch better than you persona. She already dressed for it, and had the job title for it. Throw in the mocking of the part timers (next week she's facing barely ever seen in AEW Yuka Sakazaki).

Yeah, last week's promo was intended to be a train wreck.
I don't think it was necessarily something to be proud of, but it got people talking and Britt redeemed herself pretty quickly this week. Is she Becky Lynch on the mic? No, but she's improving and that may have surpassed her promo on Bea to become her PB.

Yuka Sakazuki wasn't signed before had she been signed earlier I think she would have had Riho spot. Because the crowd seemed to favor her a lot more at Fyter Fest.

Her issues are more her inring ability and booking. She also should get an alternative finisher or a second finisher.

Yeah, last week's promo was intended to be a train wreck. Says who? Tony Schiavone went into conduct a proper interview which would usually entail a character outlining what they want to do next. Instead of doing so, Baker's character took offence to Schiavone's line of questioning and focused her tirade on him, which is why the producers went to commercial.
Is an intentionally skiddish promo something to be proud of? No, but it was clear what they were going for.

I thought you meant Baker cut an awful promo intentionally. That was the intention of the segment, for Schiavone to set her off and for Baker to let loose.

The Omega/Riho vs. Sabien/Ford match on AEW Dark was well worth watching. They worked it like a PPV match and while there were some interesting camera cuts that may have skipped over some botches the final product was still one of the better women's matches in AEW history so far. Ford got to stand toe to toe with Omega and while she's relatively limited, I think Omega running a lot of those classic arm twist and leg lock spots with her made her look good. The highlight of her performance was when she hoppedup on Sabien's shoulders and caught Omega with a Codebreaker, a cool looking spot and really a smart use of her.
Riho definitely looked more comfortable in the middle and while they used her light frame to get heat, she got enough shine at the end to justify her presence. My concern with intergender wrestling is that it could become really formulaic with the heel men beating down the babyface woman time and time again, basically making it a regular tag team match. I think this match had a bit of that, but the closing moments made up for it and Riho always comes out of her matches looking like a scrapper.
I thought Shida/Mel was a slog in comparison. Typical numbers game match with the Nightmare Collective constantly interferring leading to long heat segments where Mel went through Big Bossman's arsenal of offence which is pretty boring. I thought Shida's comeback offence looked a little sloppy and the finish was over-cooked as well. I felt like if they had Kong miss with the kendo and then finished it off with the Falcon Arrow it would have flowed better. Instead of giving Marti that small victory before the inevitable pinfall when Shida connected with her version of the V-trigger.
It appears either the Nightmore Collective are going their seperate ways, or Mel & Luther are being cut altogether. I can't say I'll miss it. I feel like after AEW missed out on signing Tessa and after Kylie walked out, AEW had to play it smart. They couldn't just throw women's content on the screen and hope for the best, they needed to support the women more and help them put their matches together in a way where they could showcase their signature moves and get over their personalities.
Instead we had the biggest women's title defence spoiled by this stable of has-beens and nobodies. The division has struggled for traction since with the only noteworthy thing being Baker's promo which bombed. Whether it was on purpose or not is up to you, but purposefully bad content is the last thing the division needed.
I'm crossing my fingers Baker beats Riho at Revolution, they pair Baker up with another talent or two so she can play off somebody other than Schiavone. I think it would be for the best for Riho as well as she's better fighting from underneath than being this dominant babyface. I think there's every chance the fans could turn on her since she's close with the head booker of the division.

Great post-match segment tonight. I loved Britt's attack on Yuka . Britt is starting to come into her own. One of AEW's biggest problems is that a lot of there women's roster are still works in progress. So the division should improve as they gain experience, and improve themselves.

Brandi on twitter seemed to show the end of the Nightmare Collective. Her interview sounds like she was pretty honest and upfront about this being a flop - which I think is a good thing. While it would have been nice to dream that everything they did would be a hit, it's reassuring that they're taking notice of criticism and giving up on things when they are not working. It sounds like them underestimating how little Kong had left in the tank really boxed them into a corner, and along with the difficulties of having some of the Joshi available, was one of the major reasons the early days of the division have been so inconsistent and poor.
