AEW Double Or Nothing happened and from all reports everybody loved the show. However, I've been too busy watching through all the Starrcast panels to really sit down and watch anything more than one or two matches.
I started off with the Ready To Rumble Watch-A-Long which was sort of disappointing. I felt Schiavone and Helms got into the spirit of it and Helms was sharing a lot of fun trivia. Arquette on the other hand looked uncomfortable especially when they would start riffing on different actors. I haven't seen the whole thing, but I'd imagine if I wanted to get the proper experience, I'd have to sync it up with the movie which I really don't care to do.
The Double Or Nothing Weigh In was a trainwreck. Roberts and his co-host weren't prepared at all and there was really nothing of note.
I found the Bret Hart panel to be really enjoyable. It feels like only yesterday Bret was doing his podcast with his boys and was dishing out all sorts of great hot takes. This felt like more of that with Bret giving out to all the Hall of Fame inductees for thanking Vince instead of thanking the boys and being upset over the Tom Magee documentary. It was just classic Bret and his takedown on all the non-WWE HoF talent was great as well.
I enjoyed the RVD/Lynn panel as well. Jerry Lynn does (or at least did, I haven't kept up with it) with Mikey Whipwreck and it was one of the best podcasts I'd listened to in awhile. So it was cool to hear Jerry again, he really is one of the most rational people in Pro Wrestling. Then RVD comes out and like every encounter with Lynn, ends up stealing the show. RVD is in this place in his life where he's just putting all his pieces together after coming out of a hard time and he's just doing the best he can. It actually makes him more interesting to listen to because he has this devil may care personality and isn't afraid to share his opinions even if he comes off as out-dated. They didn't sit down and watch the matches or anything, they just talked about how the matches came together, how it was RVD's call to go long with Lynn and why their matches were better in ECW than anywhere else. They talked about the head-knock Lynn suffered and Lynn explained that it didn't actually knock him out which ended up being worse. They touched on all sorts of subjects but I think the highlight was hearing Rob explain his philosophies on Pro Wrestling and how even though his matches were athletic, they were always built around looking for pinfalls or ways to win. It was either that, or him paying out on Booker T's novel and how he'd never write about the time he was jazzed about beating La Resistance in some random arena in March with a specific finisher.
