My tastes are not normally that well aligned with Meltzer, but apart from his Ibushi boner that's pretty damn accurate, and he correctly identified the best match. If the final got ***** 1/2 stars and Ospreay/Okada placed above it, how many stars did that get?

My own personal list would be Meltzer's list with the three Ibushi matches removed, replaced by KENTA/Ospreay, ZSJ/SANADA and Taichi/Ishii.

If it had been a one off for Omega/Okada just to show how much he loved it I'd have been ok for it, but now that it's all the time it just feels so silly. Are you really telling me that Johnny Gargano vs. Adam Cole is the greatest match in WWE history Meltzer? Not a chance.

His rating system is inflated, just like everything else in 2019. Dock a * or so off each match and you're back in line with the 80s/90s.

I just completed 100% of the G1 last night, including all the tag matches. My general conclusion is that this tournament was not pseudo-intellectual. I originally had a bunch of very in-depth, detailed thoughts on every single night for the first six or so nights that I very much wanted to share here, but all has been forgotten by the time I emerged at the end of this monster tournament. Hopefully I will be able to go through this thread and respond to some posts and remember some of the stuff I wanted to say at some point, but as for a general review I would say that this tournament was fucking amazing. Many, many amazing matches. Hell, it's easier to count the number of matches that WEREN'T amazing.

Even Bad Luck Fale managed to pull off a few entertaining bouts, I have a new favorite wrestler in Taichi, and my longtime favorite Ibushi won the big prize. What a great investment of time. An even more awesome turn of events is that my wife, who always complained whenever I watched wrestling before, became super interested in it throughout this tournament and is now a huge NJPW fan. Or at least a huge Naito/KENTA/Ibushi/Okada/Tanahashi fan (not in that order). She also hates ZSJ and SANADA, who she refers to as "disgusting lanky man" and Naruto (because of the hair) respectively. Though this is good, because every wrestling fan needs a few guys to hate.
