How much credibility do you put into people who say something to the effect of "I know about (insert subject here) because my husband does that for a living." "My dad was a Dr so I know about medicine" etc etc?
I personally understand 2-5% of what my wife does for a living and it is similar to what she knows about what I do for a living. Similar with my father. Now, I know it could just be my bias but when a coworker told me that she knows about IT because it's what her husband does. Or the girl in the office tells me that knows more about cars than somebody else and her defense is that her dad is a mechanic. I dismiss them.
Do you feel people learn by proxy like this? Or I guess maybe learn by osmosis?

If I hire a plumber, I want the plumber. Not the plumber’s wife.

I was with my last girlfriend for nearly 3 years, she was a hospital pharmacist. Every day she’d tell me about her day.
I know fuck all about pharmacy still, I still wouldn’t be confident telling somebody how many aspirin is ok to take.
I guess my point is that she went to 5 years of university and I didn’t....
