At KFC at 2:30pm, lunch rush is done I’m the only person here. Lady orders, gets her food and sits right next to me and starts pulling a laptop and all this stuff out of her bag getting in my space.

I moved eventually (awkward spot to get out of) but what gives?

The one piece of advice I have gotten from my Dad that I force on anyone I am in the car with. DO NOT STICK ANY PART OF YOUR ARM OUT THE WINDOW. My Dad did this when he was 18, his elbow was sticking out, a car in the lane next to him went to close to his car and hit the drivers side window and BROKE my Dad’s elbow. A piece of bone is missing, he can’t fully straighten it out. Luckily he is left handed and this is his right arm (Australia we sit on the right side driving) so it could’ve been worse if it was his dominant hand, but I accidentally stuck my elbow out once and we had automatic windows and he put it up and it hit my arm. I was really annoyed cause it hurt until he explained why he did it. Never did it again. Even when driving by myself, and there are no cars on the road. I will never stick any part of my arm out, I’ve told all my friends the story as well so they don’t do it either.

I have this recurring nightmare where I need some space and I find the perfect spot in The woods, with a stream, and a shady spot with a cool rock to sit on. And I get there and it’s all quiet and I’m feeling so sublime and then some fucker comes into the clearing and sits right on the rock beside me… and I have to resort to throwing me cup of nugget ice at him.

Girl that works in the kitchen’s boyfriend walked home from the club tonight, got jumped and bashed by a few guys (unsure on exact details). Which is sadly becoming a common occurrence in this area. Had similar situation attempted on me years ago but my awkwardness got me out of it, so feel like on a matter of time before something worse happens as it’s always in groups.

Carry something to defend yourself (knife, pepper spray etc) and you’re the one risking legal trouble. I’m not asking to carry a fucking AR15 around or anything but its ridiculous how people get charged for having a knife on them when they were defending themselves etc.

So carrying pepper spray here is illegal HOWEVER, coyote/dog spray (which is pretty much pepper spray) is legal so...I bought all my Ukrainians one for their keychain with the understanding to only use it if they felt their security was at risk as you can still be liable.  

Our homeless/drug addicts are getting brazen (attacking others, etc) and the city seems to be just content to let them do what they wish without recrimination (especially on public transportation) so something has to give.

I’ll admit skin with some color is more attractive than pale white… but yeah the quest for the perfect tan has always seemed weird to me. But then again, since puberty,I burst into flame in the sun if I’m not wearing sunscreen.

I have 2 colors: white and red. It's very patriotic, but I gave up on the idea of tanning when I found out it took longer to get undressed and redressed then the time spent actually IN the tanning bed.  I've since embraced my plucked chicken 'whiteness' and gotten used to the Wonderbread and marshmallow jokes.  

I think it's probably something to do with how paleness is associated with sickness (and/or death). I guess a lot of people don't want to look like zombies. I don't have much choice.

Like @aaron touched on, people have the idea it looks healthy. Also it makes physiques look more defined.

Having tanning solution on for hours is the worst, it feels like you dove into a pit of honey. I only get the 2 hour one and my patience is well and truly tested by the end of it. I don’t envy the girls that get the 6 hour tans all the time.

Conversely in Vietnam being pale is considered a sign of wealth so people will take umbrellas everywhere to stay out of the sun, bleach their skin and all sorts of stuff to be as pale as possible. Was interesting seeing it in advertisements as opposed to tan models you’d see in the west.
