Only reason I didn't vote for How the Grinch Stole Christmas is because it's only a half hour long. A half hour is NOT a film in my book. Otherwise it would have placed top 4 with me.

I enjoyed my little tradition of going to the movies with my Ma and watching those films. Me too! We share a Harry Potter tradition!

You didn't even rank Harry Potters!?!? I have two Harry Potters but not Order of the Phoenix.

Of the Harry Potter films I saw this one was easily the best. I had it ranked #2 on my list.

My #1 over #5!
The first time shit got really real in HP. The tonal shift and themes explored here hooked me instantly, and kept me in for the rest of the series.
Also, the dementors were an excellent realization of fear incarnate.

The streak is over 🤯 ,. This was number 6 on my list. What I love about the Harry Potter books is that as I got older, so did Harry and so did the themes in the books/films. So the first two films I ready in primary school and they were fun and jolly - then as I got a little older, the books turned a little darker. The first two films were solid but pretty workmanlike with no real creative vision. Fine and enjoyable. Azkaban brought in Cuaron who took the first book to go in a different direction and made this really cool, stylised version of a Harry Potter film that feels totally different from the first two. It introduces Sirius Black who is the one of the most important characters in the series, has one of the best teachers ever in Lupin, and the three main characters start to feel more like characters rather than caricatures. Really good film.

Harry Potter sucks. Rowling is dumb and Cuaron is an asshole.
Azkaban was at #13 on my list. Gary Oldman is awesome. Pretty good movie.

I didn’t vote for any Harry Potter books because I haven’t read them but my wife told me if she was going to vote for any of them it would be Prison of Azkaban. So I guess that’s a pretty legit one. She’d know.

TBH all the Potter films kinda felt the samey to me. I wasn't really into the books or the film series so I watched them in bundles and it didn't really connect to Ness. Clearly they made an impact since at least 2 made it. Now if we ever get a mature yaoilicious brokeback version of Dumbledore someone tell me.
<_< That wasn't what those Fantastic Beasts moves were, were they?

Yeah PoA was one of the Potter movies that kind of just blended in for me , perhaps had I watched them at a different pace and allowed some to sink in more it would have rated for me but as it stands I only rated Order of the Phoenix.

The Wizard of Oz is about as much of a timeless classic as you can get , one of the all time greats in cinema and one I thought was a lock to be fighting for the top spot - so it being at #3 is a bit of an upset. There's really not a ton more I can say , beautiful picture that was a tradition to watch every year on TNT as I was growing up and later went on to become my little brothers favorite movie - which drew a short lived ire from me.
The characters though , the cinematography , the simple story - all awesome.

The Wizard of Oz was my number one and it was the first film I thought of when putting my list together. Even as a kid in the 90s - the first time I watched the Wizard of Oz - the change from black and white to Technicolor felt so special and magical. Instantly it was something special. As a kid I loved the songs, the characters, the story - but my overwhelming memory was that it was genuinely very frightening as well. The Wicked Witch was very scary and the whole thing felt so serious. That it has endured for so long is really a testament to how good it is. It could so easily feel too dated or cheesy to get any enjoyment out of - but it doesn't. It's not perfect - but it's just so special that I had to have it high on my list.

What movie beat Oz for best picture!? I think Gone With The Wind? This is right and fair enough. It was a hugely competitive year for Best Picture. Oz, Gone with the Wind, Mr Smith Goes to Washington, and Stagecoach are all stone-cold classics.

Wizard of Oz was #3 on my list. It is a timeless classic and was a contender for my #1 spot. Ultimately though, only 1 film could top my list, and I believe that film will take the #1 spot overall.

I'm so happy this not only made the list but somehow fought it's way all the way to the #2 spot and was in contention for the #1 spot. Such a great movie from my childhood that I watched all the time. Trunchbull is one of the all time great children's movies villains , so is Harry but he is far less menacing. Matilda is an awesome child protagonist in the movie and Ms. Honey really is great as well. Just an all around awesome movie that deserves it's recognition - I was actually surprised to see the critics give it a 90%.

Awesome!
I had Matilda at #2 and that’s where it ended up. Very proud of the PWers for that. I thought it was going to miss the list but I am so glad it didn’t. A timeless classic.
Weirdly enough, my top 3 might all finish top 3 just in a reverse order. Oz was 1 for me, fell to 3. Matilda remains at 2 and the #1 might be my #3.
