Shockwave sounds like 90's NWA after splitting from WCW. Bland & boring.

I understand this is (probably) just a temporary fix (although I feel kinda bad for anyone who shelled out for the PPVs) but they really have to return to the retro aesthetic for the brand to work. That presentation is just so important for them as a point of differentiation, without it everything feels entirely skippable.
One observation though - holy hell Kamille has gotten yoked.

Forgot about Shockwave this week. Not a good sign. It popped up in my Youtube feed tonight. Figured I'd catch up. Ended up getting bait and switched by those carny ass bastards.. Story to follow...
1. Kamille vs. CC Chanel- Kamille was more dominant this week rather than going 50/50 with a jabroni. So it was the more effective match. Chanel(?) is most certainly not a keeper. Announcers put over her kickboxing background. Then she kicked like this...
and whiffed on a Shining Wizard  Good grief! This would already be making the rounds in gif form if anybody actually watched this show.
Aron Stevens promo. Always nice to see the Master of the 3rd Degree.
Forgot to mention last week they hyped Erik Watts for this episode YES! Master of the STF, baby! I was hyped to see some 2020 Erik Watts...
Only to get a different Erik Watts! :@ Bait and switch! BAIT AND SWITCH!
2. Eli Drake vs. Phony Erik Watts- Look, it's usually nice to see E Li Drake but I was too annoyed by Fake Erik Watts to care. I want my money back and I didn't even pay for this stupid show. Eric Watts (as I shall refer to him from now on) can go kick rocks. This is precisely why Steve Austin didn't wrestle as Steve Williams. Imagine having the gall to use the same ring name as the 1992 WCW Rookie of the Year. smh.
*I'll come back to this show later. The Youtube commenters were raving about the Thunder Rosa vs. Priscilla(?) Kelly main event.

I've caught up to the end of NWA Powerrr. Last episode I saw, they had arranged Nick Aldis vs Marty Scurll for the gold, and wrestled a preview tag match (Aldis and partner vs Scurll and Brody King). Also they were setting up Thunder Rosa vs Melina vs Alyssin Kay?
Did those matches ever take place or was everything put on hold?
Is Shockwave the continuation to NWA Super Power (episode 21) or is there something in between I missed?

Their big Crockett Cup show was scheduled for April 27th or thereabouts. The pandemic hit in early March. Of course I'm biased, but I feel like NWA was the promotion hurt the most by COVID. Shockwave is sort of a continuation of Powerrr and sort of its own self contained thing. It's complicated. As best I can tell, it's basically serving as a placeholder. Just a way for NWA to put some content out there.

I watched this today after also hearing a lot of positivity, and I can confirm it's a really good match. Even better than Rosa's match with Allysin Kay earlier in the year I think. dex02 have you seen this? Love how physical they were, definitely captured that "real fight feel".

What a stiff, physical match, with some great technical wrestling and counters too. Rosa was her usual excellent self, but Priscilla Kelly was much better and smoother in the ring than I remember her being. I don't think she needs to rely on shock/gross-out moments anymore.

The Rosa/Serena match with Serena winning the title aired this week and I was a little bit let down after how good the previous match was. It started out promisingly with a nice technical exchange and then Serena working over Rosa's neck and back, but when Rosa turned the tables she completely ignored all the damage done which is always a pet peeve of mine. Serena then strangely regained control with a heel manoeuvre faking an injury, Rosa again coming back in the ascendency when the action spilled out of the ring, only for Deeb to win out of nowhere with a sneaky pin - the storyline just didn't work.

Oh what the fuck! This is devastating. It's not an exaggeration to say that he was a big factor in rekindling my passion for wrestling which had dwindled for a few years there - I've said it a bunch of times but Power was the most fun show and he was regularly the most fun part of it.

Been watching a few segments this afternoon. Stevens and ? had such great chemistry together. Amazing how he literally became the most over act in the promotion saying just one word.

AEW is turning into what it was sworn to protect. It's buying up all the lower territories!

It's not an acquisition - they are taping new shows later in March. I'm guessing the news is that they may have some sort of TV deal?

The broadcast deal is with Fite.tv - there's a PPV called Back for the Attack on the 21st and then Powerrr returns as a paid bundle format (similar to what Primetime Live was). Into the Fire is back as the theme song.

Eh, still... Nothing will ever be the same. Perhaps not, but I think the sentiment that they have an uphill battle to rebuild the roster and storylines is being a bit overrated. They were basically starting from nothing when Powerrr began and they broke a lot of names that no one was talking about before - I don't see why that can't happen again. They've definitely lost a lot of talent but there's still a good core there - Aldis, Tim Storm, Stevens, Rosa, Serena, Kamille, Pope, Murdoch... Having to pay for weekly TV obviously isn't ideal as a fan, and I wonder whether that significantly caps their audience (which wasn't massive to begin with), but people were making fun of them for being on Youtube so they can't have it both ways.

Having to pay for weekly TV obviously isn't ideal as a fan, and I wonder whether that significantly caps their audience (which wasn't massive to begin with), but people were making fun of them for being on Youtube so they can't have it both ways. You touched on all the points why IMO it'll never be the same again. Maybe they can break new names, but I'd say the odds are stacked against it. Rightly or wrongly, their Dave Lagana controversy cost them names like Zicky Dice and Thunder Rosa, which were huge to their original run. The Question Mark is dead. Ricky Starks is All Elite. The quarantine forced Kamille to break her silence. I think Aron Stevens is done, right? Sure, Slick Nick and Eli Drake might be lifers. And perhaps modern day journeymen legends like James Storm and Trevor Murdoch will still come around. But so much of what made the talent what it was IMO was right time, right place, right tone, right presentation. Tim Storm, for instance, will never happen again. The first Powerrr run was magic because of the opportunity and timing. That sense of humor won't be as novel. That rough production quality that lent the promotion so much charm won't be as palatable if the show isn't free. The episode tapings won't be as fun if there is no studio packed full of highly interactive fans. So much momentum was lost, so much of the effort to rebuild will feel like a retread at best. And that would all be the case even if they had a crowd and viewers didn't have to pay to access. Of course I'll casually keep up with written results and whatever YouTube clips you and Baker-man pimp. I might even try to check out an episode in hopes I'm proved wrong. And maybe it ultimately just says more about me than Powerrr, but I have little to no hope or excitement for its return.

Eli Drake is LA Knight(ugh) in NXT. He's with Wade Barrett/Stu Bennett, both are full time WWE. James Storm joined Impact again. I think Thunder Rosa is on an AEW deal. I know Corgan will get some AEW talents to showcase, especially for how he treated some of his talents.
They still have Sienna and Marti Bell for the female side along with Kamille. They don't have too much talent at the moment but the product is a throwback and ultimately it doesn't matter star power wise what they have since the product is sold on old school.
NWA seems like a place for a lot of veterans to have a last hurrah, they can get a few guys who got cut last year in WWE like Erick Redbeard or No Way Jose I guess.

Seeing him wrestle again might be enough of a draw to get me interested. A program pitting him against Aldis as like a 2020 spin on Rock/HHH from 2000 would be a mighty jam indeed. Just wish they had their old rabid live studio audience back.
