Where We Left Off
Things have gone from bad to worse for the WWE thanks to poor booking decisions, losing touch with their current fan base, and Conor McGregor. The bad PR from McGregor and ongoing issues with the Saudi deal have left the WWE stock at an all-time low and morale even lower.
Talent has finally seen the light of day and it isn't with the WWE. Top stars are refusing to renew their contracts and looking for greener pastures. DIY have been vocal about their unhappiness in the company, Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson left when their contracts were up, and rumor has it that AJ Styles isn't far behind, although he has hinted at flat our retiring rather than joining another company.

Where We Are Now
When things are this bad, who does the WWE call? That's right: John Cena.
After dropping the Intercontinental Championship to Braun Strowman, Cena gave a passionate speech to the fans about not being the Superman he once was. He can't topple the monsters that are dominating the WWE, and he can't keep up with the youth of today. But, if they'll allow him, he's going to go out fighting and never giving up, and vows to break Ric Flair's world championship record before he's done. The crowd gave a tremendous pop, clearly choosing the "anyone but Brock Lesnar" option.
At the same show, we saw the emergence of Big E as a serious singles competitor, winning the United States title to a huge ovation. We also saw Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens put on an amazing match, and Roman Reigns form a stable with The Usos, something the fans have been clamboring for for quite some time.
So it's not all bad in WWE land, but is it enough?

Where We Left Off
New Era Wrestling continues to tear apart the competition in online streaming views, and the Canadian Stadium Series alongside TASW was the talk of the town. The added viwership in Canada put them ahead of the WWE for the first time in the company's history, and they're riding that wave still, competing directly with the wrestling empire to this day.
TASW's Bryan Danielson winning the NEW Contender's Championship was voted the moment of the year, and his ensuing match with NEW Champion Jon Moxley (see below for the name change) in Calgary, Alberta was voted match of the year.
The Women's division was sparking, the tag team division was the best in the business, and it seemed like NEW could do no wrong. This was going to be the year that they staked their claim as the new biggest game in town.

Where We Are Now
Dean Ambrose/Jon Moxley set the stage with a Cactus Jack moment right before his match with Bryan Danielson. With a nice throwback to the Cactus Jack/Triple H segment so many years ago, Dean Ambrose sent oVe backstage before approaching the ring to square off with Danielson. He shed his leather jacket to reveal a tattered t-shirt with "MOX" spray painted down the back. He tore away his jeans to reveal barbed wire trunks and knee-high boots. He messed up his slicked-back hair and tossed aside the NEW Championship before sliding into the ring and tearing into The American Dragon in front of 20,000 roaring Canadians.
Moxley ended up the victor but it took an incredible cost on him. NEW had peaked and needed to continue to climb their way to the very top of the world. The fans wanted more and they had set the new bar. Moved the goal posts. Told the world that they were the real deal and now they had to hold on to it.



Where We Left Off
After the Canadian Stadium Series, TASW had found new success and new attention from around the globe, however in kayfabe they came out of the CSS as the perceived losers. Sure, Bryan Danielson won the NEW Contender's Championship, but he came up short in claiming NEW's ultimate prize. Jeff Cobb was dominating as the All-State Champion, but by the time the CSS was over the fans had grown tired of him constantly squashing whoever stepped into the ring with him. His only real competition was Bobby Lashley, but Cobb had beaten him twice and Lashley wasn't about to challenge again.
The rest of TASW needed to step up and in a big way. But it wasn't clear who would do that and when it would happen.

Where We Are Now
TASW has retreated back to the southern United States and is focusing on a few things, mainly expanding their women's division and continuing their relationship with AAA in Mexico. In the mean time, Rey Mysterio shocked the world when he took the TASW Heavyweight Championship from Jinder Mahal, though he may be looking at his last title run ever. Also, The Kings of Wrestling have returned from Europe and announced a farewell tour. It looks like TASW will finish out the year with Mysterio and The Kings hanging it up, but before they do they're going to tear the house down every chance they get. This could be some of the most emotional nights in a wrestling ring...ever.



Where We Left Off
AEW was in a bad way. They claimed to have signed CM Punk only for him to immediately go on a world tour of ass kickery and claim that he was a free agent all along. The biggest free agent signing in wrestling history had been nothing but a sham, and AEW looked like fools in the process.
The company promised CM Punk vs Kenny Omega but thanks to both Punk and Omega hopping across the Pacific and enlisting in the G1 Climax, that wasn't about to happen...
...however.

Where We Are Now
That match STILL hasn't happened to this day. CM Punk won the G1 Climax by joining Bullet Club and defeating an injured Kota Ibushi in the finals, then went on to win the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom, but through that entire journey, CM Punk used his clout and then his new stable to keep Kenny Omega at bay. No matter what Omega did, he never got in the ring at the same time as CM Punk.
And now there are rumours that NJPW and AEW have ironed out their differences and the partnership that nobody ever thought was possible might actually be a reality sooner rather than later. Was this all a deep ploy? Only time will tell...

We left off with CM freaking Punk joining Bullet Club and winning the G1. See above.

Where We Are Now
Main title picture aside, NJPW has had a crazy year.
Juice Robinson was forced to vacate the US title due to an injury. A tournament has been announced to crown a new champion. Gedo has promised surprises.
Mustafa Ali signed with NJPW after the G1 and for signing he was granted a NEVER Openweight title shot, which he won. The former champion, Will Ospreay, announced via twitter that he would be returning to Europe indefinitely and wasn't sure if he'd ever come back to Japan, as he was both homesick and felt he had unfinished business with ASWUK.
And finally, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson made their triumphant return to Japan after they let their WWE contracts lapse. They were welcomed back with a tremendous pop and it wasn't long before they reclaimed the IWGP Tag Team titles.



Where We Left Off
Europe's main company seemed to struggle wiht some of their main players off on overseas dates with other companies. Balor's Club had gone to North America to terrorize NEW, which meant both their Men's and Women's Champions were nowhere to be seen.
This also happened right after Balor's Club entered a 3-way power struggle with The Wyatt Family and The Brigade, a stable made up of Scotland's finest. The fans were blue-balled and it wasn't sitting well as they toured around the continent.
To make matters worse, the UEAW European Championship scene was a mess and wasn't keep fans as entertained as the company had hoped. And fan-favourite Cesaro had returned to the United States for his farewell tour with Chris Hero.

Where We Are Now
ASWUK managed to plug away as they toured Europe and western Asia and have promised that the coming months will make up for the lost time. The Wyatt Family, WALTER and Pete Dunne were enough of an attraction to maintain interest, and now the heavy hitters have finally returned home.
Balor's Club, The Wyatt Family & The Brigade will finally step foot in the same ring and give the fans the bout they've been waiting for. Cesaro is still in North America, but WALTER has promised to fill the void as he plans to regain the UEAW European Championship, and dismantle British Strong Style in the process. And in a recent shocker, Rhea Ripley has claimed the British Women's Championship by finally beating Becky Lynch on her return home, and handing Balor's Club their first loss since forming several months ago.
ASWUK is about to erupt and the no fan base deserves it more.

All hail the one true king of worldbuilding - long may you and this new project of yours reign, good sir. Looking forward to what you have in store for us.

BREAKING NEWS: AEW & NJPW Announce Partnership, CM Punk Makes Major Announcement & More
All Elite Wrestling returns to the airwaves tonight after their holiday hiatus, but this afternoon's announcements has overshadowed anything that could potentially happen tonight on TNT.

AEW & New Japan have announced a full working partnership, ending years of petty differences, rumours and speculation. Much is unknown about what this partnership will entail or how much talent-sharing and co-hosting events will take place, but we do know that it's a full working partnership which includes television rights, merchandising, you name it.

And it should be to no one's surprise who is taking all the credit.

CM Punk followed up the announcement by taking to twitter, going live from his home in Chicago. In the video, Punk is wearing his signature Bullet Club t-shirt and he immediately took credit for the "historic" partnership between AEW and NJPW, "something that couldn't have happened without me."

"My actions over the past six months have ended the biggest rift in wrestling today. A rivalry and bitter cold war that has gone on for years, one that people said would never end, is now over thanks to me. So, you're welcome."

Punk went on to say that he and Gedo had kept in touch over the holidays, and revealed that the two were in discussions for a major AEW/NJPW co-event that will take place on US soil in the near future. Punk made several revelations in just a few sentences, the major ones being that CM Punk has executive signing power in AEW, just like Cody Rhodes, Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks, something he negotiated into his contract before joining the company. And on top of revealing an AEW/NJPW event being in the works, he also revealed that the main event would be CM Punk vs. Kenny Omega in a Champion vs. Champion match.

"You finally get your wish, Kenny. But you have to put your precious title up against mine." CM Punk raises the IWGP Heavyweight Championship into view, and closes by saying "Unlike the championship that you booked yourself to win, you have to EARN. THIS. You know what it takes to win this. You once said it was your greatest accomplishment. Then you spit on it and you walked away to live out some fan fiction pipe dream with your buddies. How's that working out for ya? Are you having fun? I didn't think so."
At the time of this posting the video has nearly 80k retweets, just over 200k likes, and has already been viewed over 800,000 times. AEW returns to television tonight and New Japan continues their New Beginning USA tour this weekend in Atlanta.

All-Star Wrestling SuperShow V: Recap and Fallout
The 5th Annual TASW/ASWUK SuperShow closed out the year with a bang, and fans around the globe are still reeling from the fallout. Several huge moments made the fifth All-Star SuperShow a special event that the world will be talking about for some time.

Probably the biggest moment of the night was Shayna Baszler answering the open challenge of former British Women's Champion Becky Lynch, shocking the world as she walked away from a major contract extension with the WWE and handed one of the best wrestlers on the planet a rare submission loss. Baszler not only walked away from WWE money, but brings with her a shift in the very foundation of women's wrestling, aligning herself with Texas All-Star Wrestling, a company that has struggled to find their identity outside of good ol' fashioned southern rasslin' with a male dominated roster.

Baszler has said that she wants to change the landscape of women's wrestling outside the WWE, and feels that she is the person that can change how women are perceived in the squared circle in years to come.

The other huge moment came in the form of a one-way ticket to Dudleyville. Chris Hero & Cesaro, better known as The Kings of Wrestling, gave a heartfelt speech to the fans in attendance. The former and longest-reigning TASW Tag Team Champions said that it was no secret that their time was up as a dominant tag team, and Chris Hero went one step further announcing that this upcoming year would be his last as an active wrestler. This announcement seemed to be a surprise to everyone, including his tag team partner Cesaro, who had to fight back tears as he closed out their promo by saying that if this was his last year, then it was going to be their best year, and that year starts tonight.

Then as The Kings awaited their surprise opponents for the night, a whistle and explosion not heard in an arena for several years popped the roof off the arena and The Dudley Boyz entered to a deafening ovation. Bubba Ray & D-Von, the most decorated tag team in wrestling history, reunited for one night only to kick-off The Kings of Wrestling Farewell Tour...

...IN A TABLES MATCH.

Two more moments that will certainly have repercussions in the new year also took place. The undefeated British Heavyweight Champion Finn Balor was pinned by Rey Mysterio in a Champion vs. Champion match. Balor's Club (Jordan Devlin, David Finlay & Paul Gallagher) immediately stormed the ring and attacked Mysterio, but was chased off by TASW and AAA alumni Andrade Cien Almas, Sin Cara, & Rush. Balor's Club retreated backstage and was all smiles until The Brigade (Drew Galloway, Noam Dar & The Coffey Brothers) surprised them with a vicious attack.

And before that, The Wyatt Family defeated British Strong Style in six-man tag team action and the match ended when Bray Wyatt pinned UEAW European Champion Pete Dunne. Make of that what you will as the UEAW European title picture gets even more cloudy.

It was a night to remember and the relationship between sister companies TASW & ASWUK appeared to be stronger than ever. There's no telling what these companies can accomplish in the future, especially with the success of TASW and NEW's Canadian Stadium Series. We've seen two major relationships built heading into the new year, and for the first time in a long time, the WWE is the odd man out. The future is bright and exciting, folks. Stay tuned.

-Alvarez says he assumes Dave talked to Cody or the Bucks.
-Meltzer says he won't reveal his sources but doesn't shy away from the fact that he has a good relationship with everyone at AEW.
-"This shouldn't be surprising, Bryan. The Young Bucks named a finisher after me."

-Moving on to Omega vs. Punk.

-Dave says this is going to be the most anticipated match of all-time.
-Alvarez says no way.
-"Bigger than Omega/Okada III? Bigger than Lesnar/Undertaker? Bigger than Flair/Steamboat in 89?"
-Meltzer just says that this match is going to change wrestling forever and leaves it at that.

-Alvarez brings up the TASW/ASWUK SuperShow.
-Says he's happy that all the smaller companies have these budding relationships, leaving the WWE out.
-"The WWE has been up its own ass for way too long and this year is going to be the year of reckoning. Count on it."
-Meltzer laughs. "We'll see."
-Alvarez asks how he can say that after all that's happened.
-"The company has been too big for too long. It's like saying McDonald's is going to go out of business."
-"McDonald's may never go out of business but more and more people are making the trip for In N Out Burger."

-Alvarez lines up the current landscape.
-NJPW and AEW have a working relationship and complete talent sharing. Notes that NJPW is currently touring the southern United States so we should watch out for some of them showing up on TNT in the near future.
-TASW and ASWUK just had their most successful SuperShow ever, and the sister companies have shown over the past year that they have a strong relationship with NEW.
-CM Punk used his free agency to bridge the gap between several companies and it's entirely possible that future free agents will do the same. Mentions Shayna Baszler and says that even though she's aligned with TASW, nothing is official yet and there's no telling what she might do for women's wrestling over the next several months.

-Meltzer says that TASW is walking a thin line.
-"With Hero retiring, Cesaro will go back to Europe permanently. Mysterio is likely on his way out too. They're going to see some major changes to their main event structure over the next few months."
-Alvarez says that Cobb, Lashley, Danielson are great replacements but can't carry the brand like they have been. Mentions the Wyatt Family returning home eventually when they're done in Europe.
-"I think Shawn Michaels will have some tricks up his sleeve. I'd watch TASW very carefully."
