I know this is probably an unpopular opinion, but somewhere in my little mind I kinda, sorta wish this match were happening at this Cody/Bucks/10k arena/Meltzer bet show. What is happening in NJPW right now makes me very happy, though, so that's in no way a complaint, more of a random musing.

At first I thought it strange that Jericho is playing the heel role, but only because Omega has always been a heel. Thinking a little deeper, it's clear that this is the right decision. Omega may be booked as a heel but he's a fan favourite, like all the top guys are. He's established himself as a great worker and an entertaining personality. Chris Jericho is the infidel. He appeared from out of nowhere, claiming he's the best in the world and Kenny Omega is not. Omega not only has to defend his own honour, but the honour of New Japan. Put that way, Jericho being the heel makes sense, and that violent, Western-style beatdown punctuated it. Don Callis getting involved was a nice touch.

I love how he looks all old and rough around the edges. Grizzled vet Jericho rules so fucking much.

Expecting a match more "hardcore" than Kenny has been putting on recently in NJPW. He does that extreme type of match so well, and Jericho is understandably never gonna be able to go full throttle at the pace most Omega matches go at, so this violence in the build up seems to be a prelude to what we are getting at The Dome. I'm on board with that.

Go full attitude era, crowd brawling with this shit. Mandatory suplex at the entrance ramp for good measure.

I draw the line at ref bumps, though, unless Jericho just beats up the ref before the bell rings and he and KO start going ham with the brawling before some sort order is breifly restored when a new ref joins the shenanigans.

I wanna see Jericho do a Terry Funk moonsault off of a ladder.

It gets heel heat but no kayfabe ramifications as far as I'm aware. Suzuki beats up refs and young boys all the time. Naito does it occasionally as well. Plus refs in Japan are tougher than their American counterparts. They don't stay down for 10 minutes after being shoved lightly.

Not sure an announcer has ever been beaten up in Japan before. Probably has, but something as spectacular as that?
