The problem I have with false accusations is there's really no consequences to them. Yes, slowly that's starting to change with colleges being sued but that's part of the issue here. When a dude is accused his face is EVERYWHERE. Look at any news article his mug and name is front and center. Meanwhile the woman usually is anonymous and her image is blurred. So the accused is found guilty by public opinion even if he's found innocent. Generally seems to be no fines, jail time or anything. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6996829/Good-Samaritan-says-woman-accused-assaulting-fixing-car-up.htmlShit like this is why I would never help anyone in need under any circumstances. Fuck that.

A bit on the subject a bit not. I find it interesting that all the big name college campus rapes were all shown to be hoaxes. Duke, Mattress Girl, the big rolling stone article.
And no, I am not blaming alcohol but alcohol is no good when it comes to navigating young sexual relations.

A bit on the subject a bit not. I find it interesting that all the big name college campus rapes were all shown to be hoaxes. Duke, Mattress Girl, the big rolling stone article. And no, I am not blaming alcohol but alcohol is no good when it comes to navigating young sexual relations. The reason for this is the media and even a lot of law enforcement believe false accusations more than real ones. False accusations are often based on what is seen in movies so it fits what people believe rape is. Give a story that fits the narrative of people think rape is like and they will believe it and rally behind it. Meanwhile, actual rape is rarely violent, with victims unsure if they were really rraped or not and a lot less cut and dry than people expect, so people do not believe it when they hear it. It is a very strange paradox that when understood can often quickly determine truth claims. Turns out too when people describe their experiences being raped, real victims and false accusers use far different language in places. Again false accusers stage things as if it was in a movie or book. Real victims stage it internally. Before I got sick again I was really researching this and working on an algorithm to possibly separate accounts of the two with machine learning. There have been enough false accusations that it was not hard to get good samples of people telling false stories these days. One hard and fast is rare rarely occurs with multiple men and straight girls.

Fuck that. Absolutely not the case. False accusers more and more have been sentenced to jail and schools and workplaces that that take action about the person they accuse sued for millions. Most settlements are silent but they happen if you look into the stories. Meanwhile the false accuser is in a weird place for life. Anything happens to them and the police pull up the records, they will see that person filed a false claim. If they are victimed for real in any manner they will not be believed and police generally will avoid them for fear of getting roped into another scam.

Sorry, but am I the only one having a hard time with the fact c is in here talking shit like university educated people make better choices.... dude. Your choices. And they will. Think about if the opposite is true. If they did not make better choices, then you would implying that learning does not lead to better problem solving, which then becomes a circular argument that learning does not exist. There is plenty of research that people with college degrees are more motivated and have more strategies to solve problems, particular when it comes to epistemic cognition, or evaluating the truthfulness and reliability of information. Finally there is a huge divide in how non-college educated people live. While some are self-made, and others are skilled trade people the vast majority are the impoverished. There are more meth users than self-made non-college educated businessmen for instance. Personally I suggest most people do not go to college now unless they want to do research or work in a career that needs the degree. Most would be far better suited going to a trade skill instead as they have far, far better outlooks. As for my personal choice I am severely mentally ill, of course my choices will be stupid at times. I did pretty damn good with the hand I was given though. Outlived half of my high school friends. Statistically have about 10 more years to do stuff with my life (old age is not expected for poorer people with severe mental illness) and am pretty happy with what I accomplished and with the amount of people I managed to help get their lives back on track over the years.

Wait, what's up with the attack on c ? I always thought he was pretty legit for a wrestling fan. Even for a non-wrestling fan. It wasn't meant as a personal attack, but a commentary on the logic being presented here in the thread about educated people making great choices. I thought it was a known thing C hasn't made some of the best personal life choices. As an aside, is it wrong that I feel ok critiquing someones choices because I myself have made some horrible choices? It may have come off far more rude than it seemed in my head. I should have been better.

Educated people do not always make great choices, but on average they are better at certain things is what I was saying. And it is not about me, but about people as a whole. I got shit genetics but that does not mean i cannot use what I was given to try to help as many others I can while I am here. Which is why I ended up in educational research, to try to find what actually will help people learn the best and promote it, and reform education to remove what does not help people.
And not all my choices were bad. Many ended badly, but I do not regret them as most of my bad choices involved helping people that then backfired. But I refuse to belief that selfishness is a virtue and hold true that people can and should try harder to help others rather than focus so much on helping themselves. We have find meaning in different places, for me, meaning is making the world better for others.
Edit: Also we are a small enough board now that there is no need to dogpile Nazzer who I am sure did not mean personal offense. And really even if he did, people have said far, far worse about me in academic print so let's not dwell the tone or personal nature. What he meant is sometimes educated or smart people do really stupid things.
So I will give a better example. The person who did the math work to develop clinical trials, Ronald Fisher (the father of modern statistics), did not believe that smoking caused cancer and died of colon cancer that likely came from smoking himself.
