Bah, ya sumanagun. The others I knew were gonna be off the board, I actually thought Yakuza 0'd make it back to me.

There's no way Mario 64 handles better than Crash, or Spyro for that matter. The main reason I don't rate Super Mario 64 so highly is that it doesn't play so well. Or maybe the problem is that I just suck at it...
Plus Crash and Spyro have a way better personality and aesthetic.

Emperor is trying to bait us into wasting our picks on these shoddy Crash and Spyro games so he can claim all the great games for himself.

I think a few Crash or Spyro games would fit nicely with my list.

I did two playthroughs of Bloodborne, it deserved the spot on my squad for that alone. Got the plat for my 1st playthrough, 2nd playthrough I did the DLC and G/B and myself killed it and got him the plat(Well he did all the work, he's awesome)

MGS3 and Castlevania SOTN were both under consideration, great pick Rags. Knew you would not take a JRPG so I could gamble with FFVI swinging back to me. So happy to nab it here, no shot it comes back to me.

Great pick, System! I have no idea which Tony Hawk I used to play, but I played the shit out of it and LOVED it.

Spyro is smooth as fuck compared to Mario 64.

These are some fucking hardcore first picks, I gotta say. I can’t decide which list is my favourite right now. Picks 3-5 are going to be crucial.
I’m a little surprised that Portal 2 went before the original. I liked the first one better and always thought most people did too. Maybe I’m wrong.

Symphony of the Night was my next pick. I figured it wasn't as risky to get nabbed as Diablo 2. Damn. Portal 2 is not as good as the first one.
I didn't expect to get MGS3 but I was hoping it might last until my next pick after Symphony. Sucks that both were grabbed.

Sands of Time is one of the best games ever made without a doubt. Platforming, story, atmosphere, innovative mechanic, great combat. The full package.

Or maybe the problem is that I just suck at it... Plus Crash and Spyro have a way better personality and aesthetic. Again, it isn't a question of quality rather innovation. Did Spyro set itself apart from Mario 64 and redefine the 3D platforming genre? I don't think so because at the end of the day it's still a mission based game where you collect trinkets in order to move forward just like Mario 64. It didn't change the genre, it only refined it and even so the bigger emphasis on NPC interaction was in Banjo Kazooie which preceded it by months.
Crash has a better case since it was a linear take on the 3D genre, but even so, it didn't really come up with a new approach like Mario 64 did. It basically took ideas from the 2D genre and just added another dimension, a tricky prospect and it took them three games to get a handle on it.

I was hoping to get Bloodborne for my third but that didn't pan out. As for Portal 1 or 2 sometimes that was a hard pick, but I don't regret it. The next pick I may end up regretting though if I pick the wrong one.

My general plan is to always take your next pick just before you. Either way, I originally let SOTN slide, figuring other fare would be more in demand in the 1st round (it was slated as my 1st pick until I came up first), but I didn't want to take that risk for another 30 picks.

Again, it isn't a question of quality rather innovation. Translation: Spyro and Crash are better. Thank you. Never disagreed about the innovation. It basically took ideas from the 2D genre and just added another dimension, a tricky prospect and it took them three games to get a handle on it. Nah. Crash 2 is the peak of the series and even the first game demonstrated that they had a handle on it, even if it wasn't perfect.

'it' being the formula, not Mario 64 itself.

Mario 64 still amazes me to this day. The jump from Mario World 2 to 64 is just something we'll never experience again. It's like the streak ending. You can't repeat the moment.

cig, since this is your thing, I just wanted to ask is this just video games (in the traditional sense), or do both computer and mobile games count as well?

Final Fantasy IX is a great pick, I had my eye on that but no surprise Emperor got there before me. Seriously underrated game.
