Kilgore Agreed! I loved his cage match with Devon Storm (aka Crowbar) No joke, the Sabu vs. Devon Storm cage match in WWA is a Top 10 Sabu match ever.

The first show they promoted the hell out of sounded so disappointing I lost all interest. It was like they saw the success of WCW and thought they could assemble any roster and it would sell tickets. One of the biggest stars they had on the shows was Jerry Lawler and they actually ran news stories of him meeting up with this middle-aged super-fan and tried to sell him as this living legend as opposed to this perverted commentator everybody knew him as.
Of course Lawler's one match on the show was as a participant in the battle royal that happened to include everybody on the show.
The other big get was Bret Hart, who was front row centre on the poster decked out in his wrestling gear. Of course this was after his concussion so Bret was merely an authority figure.
I don't think it would be possible to come up with a more insufferable roster. Jeff Jarrett, Road Dogg, Buff Bagwell, Disco Inferno, Lodi, Lenny Lane, Stevie Ray, Normal Smiley etc.
Again, it seemed like they could just put on any event and it would draw huge in Australia. The thing was with that WCW show, it had been talked about for years as this big event that was going to happen and it was going to feature all the stars like Hogan and co. That went as far back as at least 1998, I know after only a handful of shows, my Old Man was committed to getting us to the show and was under the impression it was going to be like this PPV quality house show with all the stars. I don't think he was alone either and I doubt WCW would have drawn anywhere near the same crowd the second time around.
The shows got better over time as they added more stars like Scott Steiner, Sting, Lex Luger, Sabu etc. but the damage was done.
Still, it wasn't all in vain. During one of the promotional tours, Scott Steiner, Midajah and Grandmaster Sexay made an appearance on The Footy Show in a fun segment. I caught the episode as it was happening and they did an excellent job of selling the military press on Fatty Vautin, I legitimately thought the bump went wrong judging by everybody's reaction.
Then years later, Jeff Jarrett was on Rove promoting a TNA tour which never transpired and they had a fun call-back to WWA where Rove finally got his revenge for the guitar shot. I was about as big a fan of Rove as I was of Jarrett, but I actually found myself enjoying the segment. It may have even been the beginning of the Double J redemption arc.
Speaking of TNA, that tour didn't go ahead, but the Hulkamania tour did. It didn't really draw any houses, but like the WWA, it was a sign of things to come for TNA with Hogan, Flair, Lacey Von Erich, Venis, Kennedy, Jordan, Moore, The Nasty Boys etc. working the shows. This was also one of the last major tours Umaga was on before his untimely passing.

Yep. WWA was my first introduction to a few WCW/ECW guys that weren’t in the Invasion. I feel like I remember reading WWA results online back in the day, and thinking: if they have guys like Sting, Lex, Big Poppa Pump, Sabu, etc. then WHY THE FUCK are they pushing Road Dogg and Brian Christopher so hard!? Then pretty much the same thing happened all over again with early days NWA-TNA results. Forget this. I thought they should have pushed Joe E. Legend TO THE MOON after his match with Mike Sanders  For those who don't know, Joe E. Legend is best known as Just Joe of WWE "fame." But Joe E. Legend invented "yes/no"ing in that match. Fact!

I used to lurk on WNA. Didn't Rove have an account on there? I reckon you’re right. It was a massive community at the time, considering it was based in Oz. I never knew the full story, it was there one minute, then WNA entirely disappeared the next. Did anyone make the jump over to theasylumv2.proboards.com after WNA’s demise?

I went to two WWA shows. The first was awesome, the second was awful. There was also hardly anyone there, so Jeremy Borash told everyone to come down from the cheap seats to ringside.
I've got a couple of WWA DVDs hanging around too.
Anyway, my first PPV was Royal Rumble 2000. It was live on free TV (Channel 4) here and that was a pretty big deal. It had random ad breaks in it, which was a pain, but still.
Then Channel 4 lost their minds right away after Mae Young got her boobs out and HHH/Cactus Jack bled a load and decided to delay/censor future PPVs. The next one they showed was Backlash 2000, where they pixelated the blood on someone's face (Edge? X-Pac? Dunno).
They ruined a few more PPVs over the next two years (including the Rumble in 2001, where they ruined Big Show's return by cutting to ads right after "WELLLLLL!"), then everything went back to the overlords at Sky.

Well considering how piss break worthy hearing Show's theme is, perhaps Channel 4 was just ahead of the curve.

^I actually did on the old PW.
Tell ya what. I'm in the middle of my Michaels writeup (meaning a new name will likely be dropped tonight!) AND a semi-lengthy PM right now. But tomorrow I will take Lord Palpatine's advice.

My friend Slothman loved Big Show's theme. I was indifferent to it myself. If this thread keeps getting bumped I swear I'm going to have to chronicle when and where I watched I every single PPV I ever watched. Because I'm an absolute madman.... Disclaimer: For most of my life I did not have cable. So I had to find places to watch PPV. I did, however, contribute financially. It was usually around $5 or so. Sometimes I contributed more dimes than my cohorts. I did not really mind this. It was never my house we were watching these shows at. Plus I cared more than anybody else. Other times I would spot somebody else a few bucks to be paid back later....in theory. Anyway, what I'm about to post is when and where I first watched these shows. Many I saw more than once. Particularly in the early years. Spoiler tagging this so people can opt out of scrolling through my wall of text. Enjoy! Every Single WWF PPV I Ever Watched (and Many I Didn't)
{Spoiler} 1987-1991
Wrestlemania 1 & 2- Tape rental. Some time before June 1990. The Wrestling Classic- Tape rental. Late 95-96. Wrestlemania III- On tape a day or two after it aired courtesy of my cool neighbor Mr. Charlie. This was the first PPV I experienced in real time. Survivor Series 87- Not sure. Think I watched (some of?) it live at Mr. Charlie's. Then for sure watched (again?) on tape in late 95-96. Royal Rumble 88- Not actually a PPV. But close enough. Watched live at Mr. Charlie's. Dino Bravo~! Wrestlemania IV- Live. Mr. Charlie's. Off the charts hype. Mr. Charlie made a whole big thing out of it. What a legend. Summerslam 88- Tape a day or so after it aired courtesy of Mr. Charlie. Stupid Ultimate Warrior.... Survivor Series 88- Not 100% sure. Don't think I saw it live. Maybe on tape a few days later? Definitely saw it on tape in late 95-96. Royal Rumble 89- Tape a few days after the fact thanks to good ol' Mr. Charlie. Wrestlemania V- Tape a day or two after it aired courtesy of Mr. Charlie once again. Summerslam 89- Mr. Charlie tape a day or so after it aired. Iirc this is where a lot of iconic themes debuted. Survivor Series 89- Live at Mr. Charlie's. For a lot of these I can conjure up a mental image of one match/thing. It's usually something weird/obscure Royal Rumble 90- Mr. Charlie tape a day or two after it aired Wrestlemania VI- See above. *My family moved in June 1990. Mr. Charlie no longer lived four doors down... Summerslam 90- But Mr. Charlie still delivered the goods on tape. He was, after all, a mailman. Survivor Series 90- Mr. Charlie tape. Watched the hell out of this one. Royal Rumble 91- See above. Including the "watched the hell out of this one" part. Wrestlemania VII- Mr. Charlie tape.
1991-1995
Summerslam 91 to KOTR 93- Tape rentals. Late 95-96. With the lone exception of Tuesday In Texas. Never did see that one. Summerslam 93- Tape courtesy of Joey at Matt The IRS Fan's house a day or two after it aired. Luger was a huge draw here. Survivor Series 93- Same as above. Royal Rumble 94-Wrestlemania 11- Tape rentals. Late 95-96. Summerslam 94 is the big one here. That was a frequent rental. I memorably received over the phone play by play from my cousin for Royal Rumble 95 & Wrestlemania 11.
1995-2003
IYH May 95- Never saw the full show. First one I can say that about. KOTR 95- Also never watched. IYH July 95- Three in a row I never watched in full. Summerslam 95- Live at Brandon/The Three Brothers house. First PPV I saw live since way back at Survivor Series 89. This was a game changer. IYH September 95- Never watched. IYH October 95- Tape rental a few months later at my cousin's. Survivor Series 95- Live. Meaning in the building. An even bigger game changer than Summerslam. Also wore out Chuck's tape in the days that followed. IYH December 95- Live at Chuck's. Also watched the tape an absurd amount of times in the days and weeks that followed.
Royal Rumble 96- Live at Brandon's/The Three Brothers IYH February 96- See above. Wrestlemania 12- Live at Brandon's again. IYH April 96- Never saw in full. IYH May 96- Live both nights at Brandon's. KOTR 96- Missed. Don't think I ever did see this show in full. IYH July 96- See above. Only I know I never watched this one in full. Stupid Horsemen vacation.... Summerslam 96- Live at Brandon's. Though I have vague memories of our PPV feed being glitchy. IYH September 96- Live at Chuck's. For whatever reason, this PPV was a huge draw. Several acquaintances from outside our usual clique showed up. IYH October 96- Live at Chuck's. Survivor Series 96- Live at Brandon's. IYH December 96- Live at Chuck's. Think this was the last PPV we ordered at Chuck's house.
Royal Rumble 97- Scramblevision(!) at Brandon's. I memorably thought Fake Diesel won the Rumble. If only! IYH February 97- Never saw the full show. Wrestlemania 13- We actually didn't order this one. Partial Scramblevision + tape rental a few months later. IYH April 97- Live at Brandon's. IYH May 97- Live. Brandon's. KOTR 97- Never saw the full show. IYH Canadian Stampede- Live at Cousin's. GOAT PPV. First of many PPVs at Cousin's. He had one of those illegal boxes. But I needed a ride to get there. Summerslam- Never saw. And I was gutted at missing this one. It had off the charts hype. IYH September 97- Never watched in full. IYH October 97- Live at Brandon's. Survivor Series 97- Live at Brandon's again. IYH December 97- Intentionally skipped. First WWF PPV I ever chose not to watch.
Royal Rumble 98- Live at Brandon's IYH February 98- Watched the 2nd half live at the house of a rather obscure character named Eric who was a friend of Brandon/The Three Brothers. Wrestlemania 14- Live at Brandon's. 10/10 off the charts hype. Unforgiven 98- Live at Eric's Over The Edge 98- Live. Eric's. KOTR 98- Live at Brandon's. Mankind's falls were so spectacular they even popped a jaded non-fan named Zach who showed up. Fully Loaded 98- Live at Eric's again. Had no idea I watched this many shows at his place. Summerslam 98- Live at Cousin's Breakdown 98- Hmm....Not sure. Definitely haven't seen the whole show. But may have watched the main event and some other stuff live at Cousin's Judgment Day 98- Live at Cousin's Survivor Series 98- Live at Brandon's Rock Bottom- Live at Brandon's. 2nd half only? My big memory here was trying to focus on the show in the midst of their huge family squabble.
Royal Rumble 99- Tape from a work friend (Adam? Will? RVP?) a few days after it aired. Received real time over the phone play by play from Cousin. St. Valentine's Day Massacre 99- Another tape from a work friend (Will? Adam? RVP?) a few days after it aired. Wrestlemania 15- Live at Brandon's. Pretty sure this was the last WWF PPV we ordered at Brandon's. Let's see if my memory is accurate.... Backlash 99- Live at Cousin's Over The Edge 99- Live at Cousin's. Tragic. KOTR 99- Tape a few days later from a work friend (Will or Lauren?). Or possibly a late rental? Fully Loaded 99 to Armageddon 99- Never saw any of these in full. Occasionally received over the phone play by play from Cousin. *Turns out I missed/skipped a lot of WWF pay per views in 99. I did, however, watch 5 of the 6 ECW pay per views that year.
Royal Rumble 2000- Live at Cousin's. Great show! No Way Out 2000- Tape from Lauren Wrestlemania 16- Live at Regina's big Wrestlemania party. There must have been 20 people there. Backlash 2000- Live at Cousin's. Think this was the last WWF PPV I watched at Cousin's. Let's see if my memory is accurate.... Judgment Day 2000- Tape from Lauren KOTR 2000- Live at Lauren's. This was now my new PPV destination. Fully Loaded 2000- Tape from Lauren Summerslam 2000- Live at Lauren's Unforgiven 2000- Live at Lauren's No Mercy 2000- Live at Lauren's Survivor Series 2000- Live at Lauren's Armageddon 2000- Missed for some reason. Will & Lauren fight I didn't want to get in the middle of? Never saw the full show. Did see the main event.
Royal Rumble 2001- Live at Lauren's No Way Out 2001- Live at Lauren's Wrestlemania 17- Live at Lauren's *Started a stupid restaurant job where I had to work Sunday nights for a few months. This meant I missed some PPVs. Tragic! Backlash 2001- Missed Judgment Day 2001- See above. KOTR 2001- Tape from Lauren/Will. Yet I never bothered watching Backlash & Judgment Day on tape. Weird. InVasion- Never! Believe it or not. Summerslam 2001- Not sure. Think I caught the 2nd half at....Will's? Maybe we ordered the replay? Some stuff I remember. Other stuff not so much. *Hooray! I finally got out of working stupid Sunday nights at the restaurant. Also, if I get anything mixed up in this post it's going to be a Will/Lauren thing. Unforgiven 2001- Live at Will's No Mercy 2001- Live at Will's Survivor Series 2001- Live at Will's Vengeance 2001- Live at Will's. HHH memorably did NOT return. I also had to suffer through that ridiculous Jericho overpush.
Royal Rumble 2002- Live at Will's. Or was it Lauren's? Those 2 often blend together in my head. They were inseparable. Mr. Perfect~! No Way Out 2002- Live at Lauren's. Big memory here is watching it with a small group in her room rather than the usual bigger crowd in her living room. Wrestlemania 18- Live at Lauren's Backlash 2002- Live at Lauren's. At least part of this was watched in her room again. Judgment Day 2002- Live at Lauren's. Big memory here is rushing over from Arby's with my friend Boo in a desperate attempt to catch the opener. Success! This also may have been the last PPV I saw at Lauren's. Let's see.... KOTR 2002- Live at Will's. Angle made Hogan tap! Vengeance 2002- Live....somewhere? PPV debut at Bryan's place, perhaps? Summerslam 2002- Live. Definitely Bryan's this time. Unforgiven 2002- Live at Bryan's. This was now my new PPV destination. It would also be my last regular PPV destination. No Mercy 2002- Live. Bryan's. Survivor Series 2002- Live at Bryan's Armageddon 2002- Live at Bryan's *Was this the first and only year I watched every single WWE PPV live? Too lazy to check, but I'm pretty sure it is.
Royal Rumble 2003- Live at Bryan's. Angle/Benoit! No Way Out 2003- Live at Bryan's Wrestlemania 19- Live at Bryan's Backlash 2003- Bryan's again Judgment Day 2003- See above. Bad Blood 2003- Bryan's streak continues Vengeance 2003- Never saw! Thus ending a streak dating all the way back to August or September 2001, which is probably my live PPV record. Summerslam 2003- Live at Bryan's Unforgiven 2003- Bryan's again. These shows were brutal. It's no wonder my last wrestling fan clique was rapidly losing interest. No Mercy 2003- Live. Meaning I was in the building. This was the last hurrah for my last wrestling fan clique. Survivor Series 2003- Live at Bryan's. It's usually just been Bryan and I for months. Whereas it had always been 4 or more before. Armageddon 2003- Skipped. At least I'm 99% sure I never saw this.
2004-Today
*Only covering the handful of shows I did see.
Wrestlemania 20- Ordered at home. Alone. Both of these are firsts. Backlash 2004- See above. Only this one being a second.
Wrestlemania 21- Watched live at a sports bar. One Night Stand 2005- Unfortunately missed due to an inconveniently timed vacation. But bought the tape when it came out.
One Night Stand 2006- Watched live at a sports bar. Vengeance 2006- Watched live at the usual sports bar. Hated this show.
Royal Rumble 2007- Live at sports bar. Wrestlemania 23- See above.
From about Summerslam 2007-Wrestlemania 25 I would watch partial shows/interesting matches on Youtube in the days following PPVs. There was also a stretch of shows I watched on a stream in 2008 but I'm too lazy to figure out which ones they were.
Elimination Chamber 2011- Watched parts of it on a glitchy Justin.tv stream Wrestlemania 2011- See above.
Wrestlemania 30 Watched at a different sports bar than the one I occasionally saw shows at from 05-07. Left in a huff when Brock ended The Streak.
Money In The Bank 2019- Watched during my one month free trial subscription to The Award Winning WWE Network.

The Non-WWE Pay Per View Post*Similar deal as last time. Only major difference is I'm skipping most of the shows I didn't watch.{Spoiler} Old NWA/WCW
Best of Starrcade (83-87)- This was a commercial tape featuring the top matches from those shows. Rented in late 95-96. Starrcade 87- Tape rental. Late 95-96.
Great American Bash 88- See above. Starrcade 88- Another late 95-96 tape rental.
Chi-Town Rumble 89- Tape rental. Late 95-96. Wrestle War 89- See above. Great American Bash 89- The most frequent late 95-96 tape rental. My undisputed favorite PPV until the epic one-two punch of Barely Legal-Canadian Stampede Halloween Havoc 89- Tape rental. Late 95-96. Rented more than once, though nowhere near as much as Great American Bash. Starrcade 89- Yet another late 95-96 tape rental.
Starrcade 1990- Tape rental. 1996 or maybe even 1997.
Beach Blast 1993- Tape rental. Late 95-96. Starrcade 1993- Tape rental. Late 95-96.
SuperBrawl 1995- Tape rental. Late 95-96. This was a Cousin pick. He attended this show and wanted to revisit it. Awful show. Fall Brawl 95- LIVE! At Brandon's. First NWA/WCW PPV I ever saw live. World War III 1995- Live at Chuck's.
Uncensored 96- Live at Chuck's. The worst PPV I had ever seen. I vowed to never again waste my money on a WCW PPV after this debacle. Great American Bash 96- On tape a day or two later from Chuck's dad's weird coworker friend. I met him at least once. He was obsessed with finding out which wrestlers were gay. "Goldust is straight, believe it or not, but Lex Luger is a flaming fa**ot."- Chuck's dad's friend. He also gave us the inside scoop that Shawn Michaels' real name was Matt Deansbury. I would later learn Shawn Michaels real name was not Matt Deansbury. Anyway, great show! Bash At The Beach 96- Scramblevision + a HIGHLY ANTICIPATED tape from Chuck's dad's friend a day or two later. Hog Wild 96- Chuck's dad's friend once again delivers the tape a day or two later.
Spring Stampede 99- Impulse purchase at a Blockbuster tape sale around 2001. Absolute steal. Great show!
*I think these were the only NWA/WCW pay per views I ever saw in full. I just cherry picked the most hyped matches from the ones I didn't see in full. ================== ECW
Barely Legal- Actually didn't order this for reasons I forget. Provider issues, perhaps? Got it on tape a day or two later from a quiet kid at school named Gus. Mind blown! Watched the hell out of this while I had it. Hardcore Heaven 97- Never saw. PPV provider issues again? November To Remember 97- Live at Brandon's
Living Dangerously 98- OK, this is a weird one. Distinctly remember watching the first few matches live at Cousin's. Then had to leave because....family squabbles? Also distinctly remember getting over the phone play by play from Cousin for the last 3 matches. EDIT: Aha! I must have been visiting with my mom and we left before the PPV was over in spite of my objections. That makes sense. I didn't have my license yet. Wrestlepalooza 98- Watched live. Just not 100% sure where. Fairly certain it was Brandon's, but it may have been Chuck's. The mind is foggy on this one. Heat Wave 98- Hmm...Think I caught the second half live at Cousin's. Definitely remember watching the main event there. Also bought the commercial tape at an actual store(!) a year or two later. EDIT: Aha 2.0! OK, here is my working theory. I just got my license. Was receiving over the phone play by play + coaxing to drive over. But I was hesitant since this would have been the longest drive of my life up to this point. And at night! In the city! But curiosity and coaxing won the day. I dared to be bold. And arrived in time to catch a few of the matches. It's not the worst theory in the world.... November To Remember 98- Missed. Received over the phone play by play from Cousin.
Guilty As Charged 99- Another weird one. I think I double booked myself. Watched the early portion at Chuck's. Then drove to Cousin's in time to catch the main event...and possibly more? Living Dangerously 99- Live at Cousin's. Hardcore Heaven 99- Live at Chuck's. We stopped ordering WWF PPVs at Chuck's in Dec. 96 but were still ordering ECW shows there in May 99. Weird. Heat Wave 99- Live at Cousin's Anarchy Rulz 99- Live at Cousin's. Also bought the commercial tape at an actual store at some later date. November To Remember 99- Missed
Heat Wave 2000- Was the only latter day ECW PPV I saw. And even then I only remember catching the main event. This was at Cousin's during a time when he was rapidly going off wrestling. This was the last PPV I ever watched at his place. ==================== Other
WWA Retribution 2003- Ordered at Bryan's. Actually kinda sorta enjoyed this show at the time. Joe E. Legend~!
NWA TNA 2003- Ordered approximately 2 out of every 3 weekly pay per views at Bryan's. We were pretty hardcore TNA fans at the time. This TNA kick may have stretched into the very early part of 2004. TNA Turning Point 2004- Bought the tape at the ECW Arena Hardcore Homecoming show because I wanted to see the AMW/XXX cage match. Good show! *Think those are the only TNA pay per views I ever saw in full. As with WCW I'd just cherry pick the best matches.
NWA Into The Fire 2019- Watched on Youtube a few days after it aired. NWA Hard Times 2020- Watched live at home! First PPV I ordered at home since way back at Backlash 2004, and only the 3rd ever overall.

My first PPV that I watched was also Armageddon 2000. Taped from Channel 4 live and watched the next day after school. It's probably one of my favourite PPVs even just for the nostalgia of it being the first one I watched. Hardys/Lita vs Guerrero/Saturn/Malenko in an elimination tag was my highlight obviously, but there were some other cool matches like Jericho/Kane LMS, the Four Corners Tag with E&C/Dudz/RTC/Road Dogg and K-Kwik (!) I mean if you go back on look at the actual card it probably reads like a dud but with how hot the crowds were and how the show flowed, it's a PPV I can always watch start to finish. Because we didn't have Sky and I didn't really get into WWE until WM2000, I was stuck with watching tapes of Sunday Night Heat from late night Channel 4 and that was like my weekly WWE catch-up in an hour complete with mid card matches. Then we got Royal Rumble after that, Backlash, Invasion and Vengence. Invasion was the first PPV I stayed up to watch live because it was the summer holidays, so that was a pretty cool PPV for me because yeah even then I knew it was scripted but it was a whole other company coming in and wrestling another company! I also was a rebel and stayed up late on a school night for Vengence 2001, I'm not really sure why because I was so angry at WWE for the small tourney they did and I assumed it was just going to be Rock/Austin for the Undisputed Title after beating Jericho/Angle respectively. Probably stayed up for the Hardy/Hardy match, was so pleased even back then when Lita counted Matt down and raised Jeff's hand. Turns out I've never really liked Matt Hardy  Well that was soon eclipsed by Jericho winning the Undisputed Title and I was so fucking shocked it was unreal!!
After Royal Rumble I was determined that if I couldn't see Raw and Smackdown, then I was at least going to see the PPVs so I enlisted my Papa to tape the replay on a Wednesday at 9pm and he would post the tape to me. Christ even typing that out makes me feel mega old, considering I can just hit a stream up from my bed now. I'd also get my Papa to tape any big episodes of Raw such as Hardy/Taker Ladder Match, until we eventually got Sky in 2003. I'm sure I still have a massive box in the loft with all the tapes.
