Eternal Sunshine falling down PW’s ranking is a result of the really great film posters not being on the board for years. Was it Sun God who was a film genius? It was third on my list but I maybe ranked it a little low. It’s an all-time favourite. It’s clever, and interesting, and funny, and romantic, and heartbreaking all at the same time. I really wish we could vote for LOTR as one film for these things. I know why we can’t as it opens a whole can of worms that would make life difficult for UT, but to me they were filmed together and tell one story in a way that nearly no other films do. They just had to release it in three parts because no one can sit in the cinema for 9 hours and you might as well make three years worth of money than just one. I just don’t understand how people try them and find them boring. I saw all three three times each in the cinema and I was fairly young - I was gripped the whole time. All three made my list, which was annoying at having to give up three spots, but I view LORTR as one of the greatest achievements in film history.

Oh you got to be fucking kidding me! Two LOTR movies in the top 10?! The hell is going on?! Get ready for all three of them because The Two Towers is easily the best movie of the trilogy.

It’s insane that LOTR is going to have 3 top 10 movies.
Almost as insane as Fast and Furious being a better movie then The Notebook.
Eternal Sunshine is some liberal love story gone gloomy. It’s weak. You don’t feel the love in that movie. I didn’t even feel the sadness of the story.
The Notebook is a true love story. Better love story then Titanic for sure, but not a better movie obviously. Notebook made me cry. Eternal Sunshine took an eternity to end. You guys (and women!) must not know what a true love story is. The love, sadness, pain that goes into a true love story.

Notebook is definitely an easier love story. That’s why I assume you like it.

I only picked one LOTR movie, and that was Fellowship of the Ring, so I guess you can all blame me for Fellowship, it was my number 5.

Eternal Sunshine is a much more real look at relationships whether past , present or future. Also far more relatable to someone who’s had relationships that didn’t work out in the past - or maybe even some that did.

Notebook is definitely an easier love story. That’s why I assume you like it. Please explain that to me. How is that an easier love story then that Emo Eternal borefest? What’s the phrase everyone uses here? Pseudo intellectual? Yeah that’s that nonsense of a love story. Notebook > Walk to Remember > Eternal

This current discussion got me like that Antonio Banderas gif. Poor LOTR getting no love despite getting a 2nd (of 3?) spots. I really hope Notebook isn't sneaking it's way on for an epic Kid rant.

KING KID never fails to amuse me. What the hell is a "liberal love story"? Is liberal just an adjective you throw out there to describe something you don't like? I'm also mindblown by Kid taking Notebook over The Fast and The Furious. I'd struggle to find a more "Kid" film than that. Then again, how can I say what a "Kid" film is? The man has no rules. He cannot be put into a box. He is the Kidnigma.

A much more real look? Nah bro. It was this dark nonsense. How the hell is it nonsense? Because it is. Mind you, it’s been awhile since I’ve watched it but let me try and break it down. Former lovers falling out of love want to erase everything about their relationship from their minds. So they forget the good and the bad but most importantly each other. Right? That’s kind of what the whole movies about. And it drags and drags through their good and their bad and second guessing and what not. It’s just a nonsensical story that’s more boring then touching, in my opinion. I don’t see how that’s a harder love story to tell since it’s basically more gloomy then anything. I didn’t even care about their love parts. Apparently my opinion is always in the minority which is strange. If we are doing a top movies of the decade list and we choose that to be the top love story and have basically ignored all comedies. I don’t know. Sounds too blah. LOTR having 3 movies in the Top 10 is probably the most craziest part of it all. Especially since there’s nobody but like 1 or 2 people talking good about it. I don’t know. We’re going to need to see how this list wraps up before I really let my opinions flow. This ain’t over yet! Also, it’s your turn to draft in the NFL thread.

I like gangster movies because they’re epic. If a love story touches me and makes me emotional then they did their job. Ala Notebook. I don’t really like all horror movies. It has to really get me scared (Amityville Horror), bring me back to my childhood (Freddy, Michael and Chucky) or be some twisted awesomeness like SAW and Texas Chainsaw Massacre and the original Paranormal Activity. I don’t need crazy gore. Just a great story, a great villain, etc. I like amazing stories too. City of God, Letters to Iwo Jima. Shit like that. I don’t have a box or bubble of movies I’m only interested in. My top 100 list is going to be all over the place because I love so much different stuff. Wizard of Oz is a top 5 movie for me. Maybe even top 3. You dig? Kidnigma.

I think mikec meant easier because it's more readily digestible for emotional simpletons. Kinda like Forrest Gump. Also, KING KID railing so hard against Eternal Sunshine and trying to shoehorn politics into it feels like an insecurity flex. Part of me wonders if he ever actually saw it. Or if he was forced to watch it with a now ex-girlfriend, and associates negative memories of her with the movie for reasons that really have nothing to do with the movie itself. What's weird is, he keeps dropping posts where he'll say something I like and agree with... So I want to hit that like button. But then in the same post, he'll close with some stupid absurd take that negates the like.

I’m starting to figure out your daily routines from it. If you don’t like something, I don’t get insecure for it. I don’t chase likes. I just state my opinion. And of course I’ve seen the movie. I saw it by myself. It’s not this amazing film everyone jizzes about. There’s no insecurity to it. Only movie I ever watched with an ex I hated was Wedding Crashers and even during that movie, I got a nut off in the theater. So no relationship insecurities here.

Fuck, Kidnigma does it again. I mostly like his last post before mine. Letters from Iwo Jima nearly made my rushed list. City of God did. Honestly, he's not 100% full of bad takes. In fact, a lot of his takes I'm on board with.
And I think he just uses "liberal" now as a fancier replacement for the word "gay" since he/we can't use that anymore like he/we used to.

I didn’t put Letters of Iwo Jima on my list. Was that from this decade?
I fucked up anyways because I didn’t put Dark Knight on it but still. That would’ve definitely made my top 10 as well.

I don't really ask for much more than that. The rest comes down to my personal preferences.

Yeah I have probably 200 in my initial lists for Top 100 right now and it's a hodgepodge of everything except Super Science Fiction , my tastes definitely can't be put in a box. I think my Top 10 probably features less "classics" than most but they are movies I connected with the most growing up. I'll be surprised if most of my Top 10 even makes the overall Top 100 but oh well. Got to be true to myself.

This should settle KING KID down a bit. Tis a great movie , and people retroactively hate on it for some reason and call it Denzels token Oscar but I totally disagree , I think he as Alonzo is great in this as a charismatic badass who you ultimately have to hate for being quite the piece of shit. His monologue at the end has become iconic and the king kong line has become infamous. It's awesome. Hawke is a great supporting actor as the naive rookie , but just believable enough to finally get over on Alonzo. It is a little convenient that the girl he saved from getting raped and killed saved his life but that's just movie stuff. People hang on to stuff like that too much to tear down an entire movie. I actually agree with it's spot on the list , it wasn't quite this high for me but close and it's certainly memorable.

Is this the movie where the "my [dedacted]" meme comes from?
