Pong would have been on my list if I sent one in for being the first video game. Which apparently it isn't! But it was the first video game to get over with the masses.

I too am most impressed by the TABLE.

To add a little personal spice and conversation to the mix, assuming that's what Dr. Emperor would like to see out of us (?), I fucking love pong. Never played the original per se, but plenty of flash animation interpretations on the computer. Think the ol' PW Arcade might've even had a version at some point.

It's simplicity and highly addictive nature make it so easy to pick up and then get lost in. The competitiveness when playing against a human adversary is intense fun.

To this day, my favorite incarnation of Pong is Mario Tennis.

I have a vague memory of playing old school pong at a family friend's. It was incredibly primative, but surprisingly fun once you get used to the controls, the rallies in particular were pretty insane.

If we are going by year I think I missed the next one.

Pong was a no-brainer. Unfortunately there’s only like 3 other games that are no-brainers imo. I’ll honestly be surprised if I get more than 5 right. :lol:

EDIT: FUCK Space Invaders is so obvious. But I didn’t have it. God damn it.

Space Invaders crossed my mind but didn't think it would be picked in a top 25 list.

Fuck, I hope I was smart enough to list Space Invaders. Like Lionheart, I'm too lazy to check my submission. I know I thought of it, but then perhaps I didn't know it's significance was as great as Pong's and just opted for one "old" game.

It was fascinating hearing my dad talk about how mind-blowing it was that you could CONTROL the icons on the screen ON THE TV when he first saw pong.

Now i live in a time where VR exists and I can't play it, fml.

I've never played OG Space Invaders, but did play some variation of it on PC when I was a kid. It was just as intense and enjoyable back then and I would always shoot a little hole into one of my shilds and just spam lasers, if I hit a bonus it was pure fluke.

Outside of Sonic drowning, the most intense experience is that last ship dodging lasers.

Maybe once Emperor designs me my table I can get him to plug Space Invaders into it?

I'm with Big Pete when it comes to playing a knockoff version of Space Invaders rather than the original. The one I played an Intellivision game called Space Armada. I too was fond of the Pete strategy. At some point I heard about this "classic game" Space Invaders. When I finally saw the game some years after first hearing about it, I was like "that's Space Armada!" I mean, it was a decent Intellivision game. A perfectly fine way to kill some time. But it was far from the greatest game. I understand it's influence/importance though.

Same deal with Pong. Not sure I ever played the original, but I definitely played a knockoff version of it.

I played the original Space Invaders at some point, but when I was a kid what I played was MISSILE COMMAND.



That's right. This is a real man's game right here.

All I really remember about Space Invaders or any clones thereby inspired were the anxiety and ultimately panic attacks largely due to that fucking music. Hence, I never found it as enjoyable as Pong or even Asteroids (which also felt anxiety-inducing to a degree).

I used to play Missile Command on Windows 95. Or was it Windows 98? Much more low key than the version Lionheart posted. Probably just a port of the original Atari game.



Asteroids is my favourite of the early arcade games. Remember playing that a lot when it was part of the PW Arcade. The sound is a big part of that: love the sound when you blow up an asteroid.

Your favorite was ASTEROIDS? I thought you were a Pac-Man guy through and through after you obliterated me at that Pac-Man tournament arcade game.

I had no idea there was an earlier version of MISSILE COMMAND. They sure went overboard on the graphical improvements there.

Even our slight difference in years allowed for my childhood games to be much more intense it seems.

PI is getting smarter every day. I guess that’s what happens when you start learning to program. Makes sense. Soon I won’t be able to passive aggressively attack anyone in secret at all anymore because he will just reveal it to everyone.

Confirm if I'm onto something here, but it seems the only thing more dad-like than bad dad jokes when it comes to fatherly humor is exposing/explaining the joke so that it's no longer clever/funny.
