Highlights-Jon Moxley kicked off the show and the half-capacity crowd sounded like a packed arena. Moxley said he wasn't going to let Kenny Omega's comments stand, and anyone that runs their mouth like that doesn't get off easy.
-Jon Moxley "I've beaten everyone that's stepped up, including him, and to be honest I thought I earned a few weeks off to lick my wounds before flying to Japan and defending my NJPW United States Championship, but Omega called me out, and I've already broken quarantine to be here, so let's go, you mouthy bitch."-Omega enters and for the second time in three weeks,
Omega is joined by Cody Rhodes & Marty Scurll, as well as a limping Matt Jackson behind his brother, Nick.-Omega accepts the match, but only if he puts the AEW Championship on the line. Moxley tells Omega he's sick of him thinking he can call the shots around here, but says that if it's the only way he gets to beat some manners into him, he'll accept.
-The first match of the evening is Lance Archer defending the TNT title for the final time in 2020 against Brodie Lee. It's a great hoss battle, and
Lance Archer gets an impressive win over Lee.-The second the match ends,
Team Taz storms the ring, and they look to make a statement by attacking both men. Taz marches down the ramp with the FTW Championship held high above his head as his trio of behemoths lay boots to the two exhausted men in the ring.
-This draws out The Dark Order, who swarm the ring and immediately start to beat down everyone that isn't their Exalted One. All hell is breaking loose, and during commercial things eventually disperse until an impromptu match is called.
-Lance Archer heads for the exit with his TNT Championship as Team Taz and The Dark Order square off, but as Archer leaves the arena,
Jeff Cobb attacks him out of nowhere! As the match in the ring continues, cameras follow Archer and Cobb into the night as they tear one another apart!. When it's all said and done, newest member Will Hobbs pins John Silver for the win, and as Team Taz celebrates their way out of the arena,
Brodie Lee is completely inconsolable, leaving The Dark Order in the ring and leaving on his own.-Promo from Chris Jericho.
-Surrounded by The Inner Circle, Jericho says that he was looking forward to the holidays, spending it with his bros and his family, kicking back with a little bit of the bubbly, waiting on Santa to bring him gifts...that is, until PAC came back.
-Jericho says that PAC had better enjoy his holidays, because they're going to be his last. And PAC isn't the only one on notice. Eddie Kingston and his family have opened the gates of hell, and The Inner Circle were waiting on the other side.
-Jericho promises that the new year will be the best yet in Inner Circle's history, and they're going to start it by erasing PAC, Kingston, and anyone else that gets in their way.
-After a disappointing year, Colt Cabana looked to turn a new page and managed to do so with a shocking win over the surging Shawn Spears. As the referee raised Cabana's arm, Spears was tossed a chair by Tully Blanchard, and immediately used it across Cabana's back. The entire Nightmare Family then crashed the ring, chasing Spears off.
-
Billy Gunn and Dustin Rhodes then raised Cabana's arms simultaneously, and Gunn and Rhodes gave each other strange side-eyed looks as Cabana grinned from ear to ear between them.-The 2020 Women's Tag Team Tournament champions were handed their first loss as a team at the hands of Hikaru Shida & Riho. The match was excellent, and many live-tweeting the show were left wondering why none of these four are in the title picture currently.
-Interview with Britt Baker. She's thriving on NWA Powerrr and faces Thunder Rosa for the AEW Women's Championship next week. Baker says that she's going to be back in the new year with AEW gold around her waist.
-And the AEW women aren't waiting. Nyla Rose defeated 3 others in a Fatal Fourway match and will be waiting for Britt Baker should she return with the AEW Women's title.
-After winning their six-man tag match, Chuck Taylor took to twitter...
...and asked the AEW fans how they felt about a King of Trios tournament when AEW returns!
-Miro & Kip Sabian didn't come out of the tag team contendership tournament successful, but they were damn close, and looking to get back in the W column against The Good Brothers...but they didn't,
thanks to a masked assailant. The masked man was dressed all in black and his face was covered. He had long hair sticking out under his hood and mask. After striking Kip Sabian while the ref's back was turned, the man squared off with Anderson and Gallows, raised his arms, and formed the "too sweet" symbol with his fingers. Anderson and Gallows looked confused and couldn't return the favour before the referee turned around, and the masked man narrowly escaped through the crowd.-In the penultimate 2020 match, the tag team titles were finally on the line after a tremendous contendership tournament.
-Before the match began,
Eddie Kingston got on the mic and let Chris Jericho have it.-Eddie Kingston "Chris Jericho runs his mouth from the safety of wherever it is he's hiding. Meanwhile, WE OUT HERE! I don't talk shit from a distance. I stand here, in MY RING, and I say it like it is. And here it is, Chris: tonight, The Lucha Bros defend their titles. Later tonight, we party as a family. Tomorrow, after sleeping off my hangover, I begin to prepare for 2021. And I do that every damn day until Dynamite comes back on the air. And the FIRST order of business is shutting your stupid mouth permanently! And if you think you even stand a chance against us, I want you to look good and hard at the bastard PAC. And I want you to ask yourself if you believe what you say. Because that man is as brutal as they come. He's an animal. And I'm going to laugh while he tears you to shreds."-The tag title match is as good as you'd expect, and when it's all said and done, Kingston is forced to eat his first promise as MJF & Wardlow raise the tag team titles over their heads.
...
-Then, the final match of 2020. The tension sets in and doesn't lift until the final fade to black.
-Kenny Omega is introduced and enters to all the fanfare that The Cleaner deserves. Jon Moxley enters and wastes no time, tossing the title to the referee and immediately pouncing on Omega like a hungry dog.
-Omega and Moxley are given 30 minutes and they don't waste a single second. They absolutely tear the house down and the crowd is red hot, sounding 2 or 3 times bigger than they are. The fans watching around the world are reminded how live wrestling should be after a long and arduous year.
-In the final moments,
Kenny Omega does the unthinkable and kicks out of the Paradigm Shift for a second time in the match, the first person to do so. Omega reminds us why he was once regarded as the best wrestler in the world, finding it in himself to turn the tables on Moxley and lift him onto his shoulders. Omega finally connects with the One Winged Angel after being denied all match, and gets the 3-count, and the title.
-Kenny Omega is immediately joined by The Elite. He can barely stay on his feet, and is held up by Nick Jackson and Marty Scurll as Cody Rhodes straps the AEW Championship around his waist. Matt leans on the corner for support and applauds, and the group stands tall to close out 2020 to the roar of the crow-THE LIGHTS GO OUT...
...
...the arena is dark and silent for what seems like an eternity...
...then a single sound breaks the silence and the crowd erupts!
***COIN DROP*** -From an undisclosed location,
KAZUCHIKA OKADA appeared live on the big screen, taking over the AEW arena as the crowd went nuts.
-Okada kept it short and sweet, speaking in Japanese with subtitles:
-Okada "Congratulations, Kenny Omega. I am very proud of you for remembering the man you once were, and once again becoming a world champion. But while I am happy for you, I am sad for me, because for the first time in many years,
I do not have an opponent for Wrestle Kingdom."
-Crowd completely loses it.
-Okada "I believe if you leave now, you can isolate just long enough to meet me in the Tokyo Dome. I will be waiting.
Bring your new prize."
-The screen fades to black and the lights stay off as AEW Dynamite goes off the air for the final time in 2020....
