So the rumors have been officially announced and I'm hyped as fuck. These are must buys for me, especially since it means playing Mario 64 for the first time.
Anyways, thoughts on the direct?

I was wondering when they were going to get around to this.
I'm not thrilled with the limited release window. I think that's shady practice from Nintendo trying to get fans to rush out and buy up all the stock instead of letting the quality of the titles speak for themselves. I'm also pretty dissapointed the pack doesn't include Galaxy 2. It still has my attention because Mario 64 is one of my favourite games of all-time and I've been dying for more N64/GameCube games on the Switch but it depends on pricing.
That Mario Kart game looks ridiculous.

Very hyped...always looking for an excuse to replay 64. I haven't touched the first Galaxy in years, so playing that without the motion controls will be loads of fun.
Can we just replace Sunshine with Galaxy 2 though?

Just got the game.
The motion controls are still there in Galaxy. [ Hence the reason you can’t play it on switch lite. br]It’s just 3 direct ports with no touch ups at all.

Do you have to disconnect the joycons at all?

Bought the digital game. Starting with Galaxy since I've never played it, using a Pro Controller. I only didn't play it on Wii due to motion controls and was hoping this got rid of it, alas. I guess I get it even if it seems tacked on for the sake of it because Wii. Hate the constant resetting of the cursor like when it asks me if I want to save. But it's manageable.
Will try my hands at 64 after this as I never actually beat the game. Sunshine I may try in the future, unless Nintendo deletes it from my Switch comes March.

I got my copy earlier today, or rather the girlfriend picked it up (bought it) for me, since I was at work (@ness, can silicone Sally do that?), even though I was going to pick it up afterwards (assuming Wal-Mart had any left, I didn't pre-order the game). So the plan for tonight, is pizza and Super Mario 64, after the kids go to bed,

Silicone Sally may not be able to go to a store and get the game, but as we inch ever closer to a digital only landscape... her taking my credit card and downloading it from the eshop doesn't seem that farfetched to me. In the future anyway.

Very thankful the motion control fad is behind us. I must've lost at least 20 lives on this slingshot portion. Luckily you could farm for lives at the checkpoint.
I like the game, but hate the waggle.

Just finished a full 120 star run in Super Mario 64, they did nothing for this edition on the Switch. The cameras are still one of the worst in all of gaming and yeah it's a 25 year old game but boy you fight with the cameras as much as you do the actual game itself. I died so many deaths because I could not see what either hit me or where I needed to go and didn't get to see the distance enough to make a jump. I knew a lot of the little things based off of my playthroughs in the N64 but that doesn't mean that some of the levels(Tiny & Big Island and more notably Tick Tock Clock) didn't piss me off. Besides this, the game is fantastic so if you are one of the very few souls on earth to never play this, you will have fun....just man they could have done better here. Also no config of the button so on a pro controller I would say it was 60/40 if I got the long jump or butt bump which is the same button prompt besides a running start to get the former. Died a couple of times because of this, again I wish I can reconfig this.

With all of the Mario talk lately it made me remember about Super Mario Z. If you have never seen it then you should give it a shot.

Yeah I’m taking this back. Wasn’t expecting a full remake but to not even put in even the slightest amount of effort to fix the camera/get rid of motion controls or even touch up the graphics a bit just screams lazy cash grab especially when they’ve been doing full remakes on other consoles.

It's absolutely ridiculous that they're charging $80 for this. It should be $30 at the absolute most and Nintendo should be releasing a bundle of them (eg. Zelda, Metroid Prime, Mario Kart, Mario Sports, Pokemon) if not release them on the Online Service.
They're wonderful games, I still think Blindy needs to stop being a whinger and just get good, but it's a total rip-off and they talked me out of a purchase.

Yes, it also required next to no skill to beat. And I say that as somebody who loves the game. BK for all of it's positives is a simple game with straight forward levels. It's not difficult to operate the camera because it rarely requires to be flexible like it does in Mario 64. And I say that as somebody who finds BK infinitely more charming than Mario 64. Just from a pure gameplay perspective, Mario is a more dynamic game.
Also don't forget how frustrating the Gruntilda fight is.

Mario 64 is a great game but the camera tug of war is frustrating for a game that you need to make certain jumps for a full 120 star run. In particular the clock tower has so many gaps and small ledges that a miss results in death or at worst a climb up all the way back. You are practically not told about wall jumping yet it was mandatory to get the 100 coins in Tick Tock Clock, had I not known about any of this, there would be no way to even attempt this. By far the toughest star in the game for me. BK had some tough levels like Rusty Bucket Bay. BK's camera problem was more in the flying department if I recall which made the 2nd phase of the Gunty fight tough.

There is a star on Cool Cool Mountain that challenges you to wall jump. Also another in Hazy Maze Cave that requires a wall jump to access. There could be more too. I'm pretty sure there is a sign that informs you how to Wall Jump, but even then you've got to remember this was a time where a lot of info was in the manual.
I agree that more should have been done to improve the 3D World experience. Whether it be something as simple as save states and rewinds to take away the tedium or a more dynamic camera, just something like the OoT 3D remaster which made a couple small but worthwhile changes.

It’s not flying off the shelves anywhere I’ve been Preorder overhype then? LOL. Nintendo told everyone that it's going to be available until April and given they always give low quantity with their physical editions and Nintendo is wishy-washy online, this was something they wanted people to jump on asap.

Your right but you have to go out of your way to find that one on Cool Cool Mountain, that is the one that tells you about it. I am not sounding like I am knocking SM64 just it's not a game that has aged well for the camera and also for the flying mechanic which is the essential chicken running without it's head. It's a fun gimmick that overstays it's welcome on the two challenge maps as you are flying around just trying to go down and see yourself barely gain any vertical as a result. Of course the cannons serve their purpose but heck if you can truly control where you fly around with as Mario in the air. I am someone not so much into rewind or doing shortcuts as I like to try and play the original as raw as I can but I do agree that would have been very nice for anyone who wanted it.

I'm watching an EZScape video right now where all the top speedrunners are playing the game. Apparently they inversed the camera and relying on the right analogue to control it is worse than using c-sticks in the original. Not only that, but the controls are inversed. It's also based on the Shindou build which was the slightly upgraded version of Mario 64 released in Japan with Rumble Pak support and bug fixes which makes it worse to speedrun. They also hate the inability to map the button lay-out which is another feature that should just be there to make it a worthwhile purchase.
