Damn. Just saw this.
New Jack gets a lot of heat nowadays, and deservedly so, but I was a big fan of his in 98-99. Loved seeing him live in particular. The ECW Arena never failed to come unglued when Natural Born Killaz hit and the Original Gangsta ran out with his trusty garbage can full of plunder for the big babyface save. New Jack had tons of charisma, wasn't afraid to dive off a balcony, and is one of my 100 favorite wrestlers of all time.

New Jack will never die. New Jack is a state of mind. His body may be done, but dude's soul rides on. Heaven sure as hell doesn't want none of his insanity, and even hell is too sawft to become the next New Jack City.

Whether you liked his hardcore and downright murder esque methods in the ring or not, the guy truly believed and lived up the gangsta lifetime and he wasn't just a character, he made the New Jack persona actually him. Original as all hell and entertaining in some capacity, never going to be another one like him. Dude made Jim Cornette scared as all hell after he went and playfully grabbed him in the back at a meet and greet years ago due to their Smokey Mountain backgrounds RIP, Dark Side of the Ring did it right to do one on him before this happened. Got to tell the tale of New Jack to a lot of newer wrestling fans. New Jack was someone who was either really cool or really bad to you and if you stiffed him or hurt him, he was going to give it 10x back. That's what happened to poor Vic Grimes up in the rafters. New Jack was angry at himself he didn't actually kill him.

I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner.
New Jack was a major factor in changing the landscape of the business, especially in my eyes when I got into ECW shortly before the infamous Mass Transit incident. He is another prime example though of the art of "the work" getting the better of an individual. It's like fans who think the Montreal Screwjob was a work but only the opposite in New Jack's case. He went too far in making the business look legit at times which rightfully got him a lot of heat.

The best wrestlers -- I'm not just talking about technical ability, I'm talking about the full package -- Make you believe, no matter how silly things can get around them, that the person you see in the ring is exactly that, and the things that are happening in the ring at that very moment is the way it outta be. In that sense, New Jack is one of the greatest of all time. I think he's the realest motherfucker I've ever seen in a wrestling ring. This caused problems, obviously, but that's a discussion for another day. RIP New Jack, bounty hunter to wrestler at the top of the card, a fucking miracle.

Fuck me I forgot all about this promo. Holy shit that's one of the best ever. I haven't seen this in years. This just proves what Kilgore said. Might have been the realest mother fucker to ever step in a ring...not that that's alwayd a good thing.

New Jack was very entertaining in his own special way. His stuff with Shark Boy in TNA was fun.

I know many hate him for his craziness and taking things "too far", but I always found him entertaining. He may not have been the most technical in the ring (hell, he was barely doing any wrestling for the most part 😂), but when Natural Born Killaz hit, you knew the match was about to get crazy and fun. And as has been stated, Jack was great on the mic (even Vince McMahon was wanting to bring him in for the Nation of Domination, to be a mouthpiece for the group).
Thanks for the memories Jack. May you rest in peace.🙅

When we talk about our favourite Pro Wrestling memories usually the conversation focus' on in-ring action. However one exception for me and I'd imagine a lot of you is Beyond The Mat which is one of those documentaries I find myself returning to all the time. That was my introduction to New Jack and right away there was just something magnetic about the guy. Whether it was his backstory with the justifiable homicides or just the way he spoke he had this quality that made him stand out.
I know he was a real favourite among the HoW crew, but I even remember The Industry making a point to highlight just how good he was in SMW and how you could argue that he was the best heel in wrestling circa 1994. He certainly made a compelling case and he would have to have been one of the highlights of SMW.
He's also the inspiration behind one of my favourite clips.

Heyman on New Jack's passing. He seems to get a bit emotional, and that's telling, considering Heyman and Jack didn't always get along.

Biggest thing I've taken from New Jack is the wrestling phrase "turn it up to 11". It's something that people criticize Hollywood guys of. Nicholson and Smith (and possibly Reynolds) are just playing themselves. That's New Jack. It wasn't a character or a gimmick, he just happened to find a carny who was willing to pay him to be a psycho.
