The standings are set, but not really. With the new additions of the 9/10 seeds with the play in rules; this thing is going to be weird and wild. I think the formats dumb but I’m always down to try new things so fuck it. Here’s to great playoff basketball.
EAST:
1- Philadelphia 76ers
2- Brooklyn Nets
3- Milwaukee Bucks
4- New York Knicks
5- Atlanta Hawks
6- Miami Heat
7- Boston Celtics
8- Washington Wizards
9- Indiana Pacers
10- Charlotte Hornets
Whats exciting me the most about these Eastern Conference play in games is that we will be getting either Kyrie vs Boston first round OR Kevin Durant vs Russell Westbrook first round. I really want KD/Russ to square off again but this time as Eastern Conference foes.
For that reason; I’m taking Washington to win that game and somehow come out of nowhere to snatch that 7 seed. I’m also taking the Lamelo Hornets to beat the Pacers but then lose to Boston for the 8 seed. Sorry young Lamelo; maybe next year you fucking beast.
Philly gets stuck with a tough match up against Boston but survive the series in 6. Russell Westbrook can’t escape KD and even though Washington stuns the world by winning Game 1; they lose the next 4 to lose the series in 5. Miami making the Finals last season was a got hot in the hometown bubble fluke. Milwaukee is not getting sent home by them again. I’m taking the Bucks in 6. As I said in the previous thread, even though I want the Knicks to advance; I think this is the Trae Young coming out party and he leads the Hawks to a series win in 6.
That sets up a Philly/ATL showdown and although the Trae Young show continues, the Hawks can not get past the Sixers. They do push themselves to 2 wins, but the Sixers take the series in 6. The Giannis/Harden feud continues as they meet up in a playoff game but the ‘Big 15’ as KD calls them is too much for Milwaukee. Cheat code is activated as the Nets win the series in 6.
The ECF is a match between the top two seeds and I’m taking the Brooklyn Nets to beat the Philadelphia 76ers in 7 games. Joel Embiid goes through another heartbreaking ECF loss and the Brooklyn Nets make it to the Finals.
WEST:
1- Utah Jazz
2- Phoenix Suns
3- Denver Nuggets
4- Los Angeles Clippers
5- Dallas Mavericks
6- Portland Trailblazers
7- Los Angeles Lakers
8- Golden State Warriors
9- Memphis Grizzlies
10- San Antonio Spurs
Unlike the EAST where I had the top two seeds make it all the way to the Finals; the top two seeds in the West are in danger of facing two of the most recent Western Conference NBA Champions. Yikes.
I’m going to take the upset in this conference too with the red hot Steph Curry lighting up the Lakers for one game and leading the Warriors to the 7 seed. Many will question if maybe he deserves the MVP. This forces an angry Lebron James into a do or die game and I’m going to pick the Spurs to be his opponent. I’m taking Greg Popovich surviving the Grizzlies by outsmarting them in a one game series. I love the idea of Pop having to come up with a plan for a one game series and would not be surprised to see San Antonio win twice and sneak into the playoffs. I just can’t have it happen to a team that has Lebron James and Anthony Davis on it. The Lakers win the do or die match up against the Spurs and lock up the 8 seed.
This sets up a BRILLIANT “nobody uses the Jazz in video games” showdown between the top seed Jazz and the Lakers. I think it’s just the Utah organization. Always getting screwed by facing legends. Michael. Kobe. Lebron. I’m taking the Lakers in 7 to pull off the 8 over 1 upset.
My love for the Suns this season has been all about my newfound respect for Chris Paul. The greatest PG I ever watched play. They get the Warriors and the CP/Curry rivalry continues. This time Chris Paul’s team is too healthy and strong for Chef Curry and CP finally wins a series over his arch nemesis. Give me the Suns in 5.
The Nuggets are the 3 seed but without Jamal Murray it’s hard to picture them getting far. Nikola Jokic will probably win the MVP but his playoff run will come to a heartbreaking end as the clock hits Dame Time. I’ll take Melo getting a playoff series win here and the Blazers advancing with the 6/3 upset in 6.
The Clippers were huge favorites coming into this season, but man are they disappointing. You can’t figure out what’s up with this team. At times they look dominant and sometimes they don’t mesh. The Mavericks are one of my favorite teams in the NBA but the Clippers are the Doncic Kryptonite. I’m taking the Clippers in 6 over Dallas for the second year in a row.
This sets up what many predicted to be the WCF but it’s not. Nobody expected the Lakers to fall to the 8 seed but I do! The Clippers, as the 4 seed, will have home court advantage for a second round in a row. The battle of Los Angeles is not for a trip to the NBA Finals but to the WCF and I’m taking the Clippers to overcome Lebron. The injuries may catch up to the Lakers and I feel like the Clippers are destined to beat them in the playoffs. I’m taking the Clippers in 7 in an unbelievable, historic playoff series.
While everyone’s watching the Battle of Los Angeles; the Phoenix Suns continue to dominate their opponents. This time the Blazers are no match for the Phoenix Suns. For the second series in a row, the Phoenix Suns win in 5.
The Clippers and the Suns meet up in the Western Conference Finals. Chris Paul gets to face his former team for a shot to make it to his first NBA Finals. That’s after he eliminated his arch nemesis in Steph Curry. That’s after he outclassed Dame Lilliard. This postseason is the Chris Paul Postseason and it continues here. I’m taking the Suns to win the series after the Clippers come in with a hangover after eliminating Lebron. Give me Chris Paul leading the Phoenix Suns to the NBA Finals in 6.
MY NBA FINALS PREDICTION:
Phoenix Suns beat Brooklyn Nets in 6.
The ‘Big 15’ starts to fall apart in this series and Chris Paul remains locked in the whole way through. Chris Paul finally wins his NBA Championship and he does it in a glorious way. First Steph. Then Dame. Then the Clippers. Then the Brooklyn Nets WHO BTW have Blake Griffin and Deandre Jordan on their team. Lob City NBA Championship MVP is Chris Paul.
