Atsushi Onita is launching a fed FMWE. While the shit I am seeing is focusing on the explosives part, reason for the name change is FMW is still going from the last revival, but Onita has no control. This fed will be under Onita's control. First show is July 4th and Onita called out Matt Tremont to break his retirement and come face him in a no ropes, barbwire, explosion death match in Japan. Will have a PPV stream with English commentary.
Onita's shows for known for legendary amounts of insanity so I am excited. Fed should have gimmicked matches in the top spot as that always really was the FMW gimmick, leading to countless hilariously bad gimmick matches. One thing that was for sure with this fed it was absolutely unpredictable.
Besides the carnage that the deathmatches will bring, likely to be a some wild undercard stuff as FMW was also known for highflying and women's wrestling and that will likely return with this revival.

This company should show AEW how to put on a REAL deathmatch.

Real death matches wouldn't be allowed to be shown on network TV in the USA. What about pay per view? AEW just gave away Wargames for free. Because they're more concerned with weekly ratings and the demo. Which is great for fans. But shows, they don't necessarily care about PPV. Which is smart for a growing brand with money to burn, and wanting exposure. 1.090 million viewers for B&G versus 125,000 buys for Revolution. Either, that or it highlights a massive missed opportunity to making some good cash in selling B&G on PPV. A real death match though.. they'd be better off sending it viral. Film it, no-filter, no-restrictions and put it on social media and hit a larger audience quickly. And it would be something different.

Never understood the appeal of death matches. Kinda wish they would just go away forever.

Death matches are just a different way of telling a story. Not everyone likes them, but they are extremely easy to avoid if you do want to see them since most feds will not do one.
I find it weird that people who hate deathmatches though tend to praise spots borrow from deathmatch used in traditional feds during hardcore or unsanctioned matches.

I find it weird that people who hate deathmatches though tend to praise spots borrow from deathmatch used in traditional feds during hardcore or unsanctioned matches. I used to like WWE-style hardcore matches when I was younger, but I got bored of them a long time ago. Now I skip almost any kind of hardcore match, street fight, multi-man ladder match, Battle Royale, etc. No interest in any of it. That said I actually kinda liked the Moxley vs Omega Deathmatch. The bells and whistles were crap, but the actual story they told in the ring was pretty compelling. But a large part of that is because I cared for the wrestlers and the feud, I couldn't just stroll in and watch a random Onita deathmatch from the 90s and expect to enjoy it.

Death matches just for the sake of it can be hard to get into. So a pure death match fed even if not every match is a glorified knife fight feels difficult to get into. But 1-2 on their shows like CZW did when I was a fan of theirs is a good mix.
It is an art though because it feels like so much of the match is suspense and leading up to the weapons. Fuck barbed wire rope matches though. So cringe with the "woooooooooah woooooooooah AHHHH" selling.

Yeah I hate barbwire rope matches unless they literally start with someone going into the ropes. Same for any other "rope" matches too really. Use it from the start or pick a more interesting gimmick.
Nothing beats the early 2000's fans bring the weapon matches. They were great for the random shit that fans would bring and the flashiness of lighttubes.

I don't care for deathmatches for the most part. However, when presented in a certain light, I'm more willing to be open-minded about it. Matt Tremont vs DJ Hyde in a cinder block match & O.I.F.K. vs Nation Of Intoxication in Tangle Web 8 are my examples here. I respect the heck out of deathmatch wrestlers.
