Who else has been watching them week to week?
I touched on Stone Cold's in his thread, it was a fun trip down memory lane even if it didn't bring much new to the light. It's a great story worth re-telling, I just wish we had a Bret Hart level autobiography that went into detail about his career.
I've skipped a few, but didn't miss a chance to see the Foley episode. Foley's lifestory has been a huge piece of my wrestling fandom since one of the first things I ever watched was Three Faces of Foley. I've read and listened to just about everything Foley related and yet somehow this managed to be one of my favourite episodes. They got all the right talking heads, they covered all the right moments and this felt like the best Foley doco to date. I think we've always wondered what Mick would be like 20 years from now and it's interesting to hear about his troubles with mental illness and how there were days where physically he could barely move.
Just had a quick skiz of the Bret Hart doco, and it looks like it's going to challenge Mick's as the best in the series.
Still have to see the Piper, Savage and Warrior episodes but by and large they've been pretty enjoyable trips down memory lane.

How many of these History of Wrestling shows are there? Bloody hell.
Even if I were interested, I don't know how I'd find the time to keep up.

I thought there were only two but I forgot about Most Wanted Treasures which is pretty skippable. If you've seen other A&E type shows like Pickers you know what you're in for.
I don't think there's any rush to see them they're relatively timeless so it's just a matter of picking a subject that interests you and giving it a watch.

Feels like the Attitude Era gets even more coverage than bloody World War II.
Aren't wrestling fans sick of treading all the old ground from 1997-2001?

I am 100% in agreement. Been sick of hearing about the Attitude Era for a long time. More Golden Age & New Generation content, please.

Is this a bad time to announce my WWF 2000 project?
I just watched the Bret episode and it was really good and it was great to see Bret's kid and ex-wife involved in the documentary. Bret is in full-Bret mode which is great even if it comes at the expense of Goldberg on several occassions and it's good to see him doing well. Basically what I got out of it was that Bret was the artist of his family who wanted to be a film maker but that passion to tell stories ended up manifesting in the ring where he built a body of work that to this day still stands the test of time.
I'm kind of curious, I know you got into Pro Wrestling around 2001 Emperor have you had a chance to go back and watch some Bret Hart matches?

Is this a bad time to announce my WWF 2000 project? No! I'd be following along. You're exempt from the no Attitude Era rule anyway. So is PW in general because we don't cover the AE ad nauseum. Even when we do focus on the AE we tend to discuss more than the usual handful of wrestlers and moments you constantly hear about everywhere else. So discussing the AE doesn't bother me as much on PW because we dig deeper than AuStIn aNd tHe RoCk AnD tHe BeEr TrUcK~! Ouch. Just realized most of you have to feel the same way about me constantly discussing my favorite eras the way I feel about the AE being overcovered everywhere else old school wrestling is discussed. Feels bad, man. Oh well. At least I've largely switched up from being an overbearing New Generation enthusiast into an overbearing Golden Age fanboy over the past year or so. That's something.

The Savage one had some interesting revelations about his relationship with Gorgeous George, I'll leave it at that. Most people didn't like it because they thought it was a hit piece. I didn't think it was as bad as people made it out to be. They also went over his paranoia over Elizabeth, his reconciliation with Hogan, his baseball career, WMIII, the usual beats. They also had some pretty good footage from his ICW and Memphis days. Warrior's wasn't really all that much different from Dark Side as it touched on his racially charged speeches but focused on his daughters a lot more while Dark Side had the first wife. They also had some really strange talking heads, like a miscellaneous Warrior biographer, comedian Ron Funches and some random podcasters. Plus it had some great outtakes from promos, especially one where he had to apologize to some kid who he lashed out at in an airport. Hearing Vince direct him is quite revealing. Piper's was really interesting as it had footage from LA in the mid 70's I had never seen before. It touched on him growing up in Saskatchewan/Manitoba, living on the streets, interviews with his wife and daughters and a very uncomfortable ESPN interview weeks before his death. Plus there are clips of his stand-up comedy which was actually pretty good.

Don't take me too seriously, normally I would have quietly lurked but I had a bad day at work and this thread happened to be my venting target  Y'all know I'm not much of a HoW guy anyway. I'm kind of curious, I know you got into Pro Wrestling around 2001 Emperor have you had a chance to go back and watch some Bret Hart matches? Nothing recently. I've watched a handful of Bret matches over the past few years. I sometimes get these bright ideas to watch old wrestling, sometimes I even ask here for recommendations, then I never do it. I've accepted that I'm just going to stick to current stuff from now on. I can't even reasonably say I'll ever return to the AJPW Golden Years project, as good as that wrestling is...

Personally I'm sick of hearing how WMIII was the WWF's launch into the mainstream and how Steamboat/Savage stole the show. Sorry, I went in looking forward to Hogan/Andre and I was talking to my friends about how Hogan slammed Andre in the aftermath.

I'm with Shootist on this one. Hogan slamming and pinning Andre was the thing everybody talked about first. Then, sure, you might bring up Steamboat beating Savage in a match with 21 two counts. But Hogan/Andre always came first.

Yesterday's Hidden Treasures show with Jake The Snake really set me off. They really pushed the WM/WMII were basically footnotes while WMIII was the launching pad narrative, just so wrong.

I’ve seen all but Booker T’s at this point. For me I’d rank them -
1) Piper - I don’t know Piper well which is why it was head and shoulders above the rest for me personally. The others are good, but well-tread stories.
2) Austin 3) HBK 4) Savage 5) Hart 6) Foley (other than the recent health stuff this is allll out there easy to find) 7) Warrior (seriously fuck Warrior)
I’ve heard Booker T’s is great, so I need to watch it. Im guessing it’ll be in my top 3. Otherwise the docs were good, but obviously a piece of WWE promotional material for the most part. However there are some interesting bits in each like how much coke the Rockers were on before they came to the WWF, the Savage-George stuff (I don’t believe the surveillance thing), the Foley mental health thing and by far the best piece of video they uncovered was Vince making Warrior apologize to a kid, and him being a total dick about it.

You don't like the treasures show? I think it's really fun - yes it's not breaking the mold but I enjoy the fact that (especially now) they are getting into some of the lesser recognized wrestlers who had big impacts on the era's. Like Beefcake and Valentine last night as The Dream Team and how important and big they were for their short run - you don't ever hear wrestlers or people talk about that stuff and it gets forgotten so it's nice to shine a light. Same with Sheik too - the importance of some of his things and just how big of a heel he was gets forgotten. The clubs were awesome as was the stuff with Backlund. A lot of the same with others too and what they consider important moments or pieces of their careers. Overall I guess I'm saying is I would love to see more documentaries on guys outside of the same dozen or so obvious ones. Give me a doc on guys like Hammer , Earthquake , Sid etc - guys who don't seem to get the proper recognition they deserve. It's why I kind of have hopes for the Icons series on Peacock. Yoko's was a ton of fun and I hope they continue to go more down that road as opposed to going back to the same guard. The Biography's on A&E are fine , even good and great background noise where I can pop my head up when they talk about some of the less covered stuff but overall I don't think they are groundbreaking either and have a ton of stuff already covered. The Booker one has been my favorite so far but that's also because I know the least amount about him.

The Icons episodes on RVD/Beth Phoenix were also fine.
I don’t care for the Treasure Hunting thing because I don’t care for any of the collectors holding the merchandise that they’re buying from and it feels like a fictional motivation. The WWE Hall of Fame thing is supposedly not happening, so they just want to pull random memorabilia into a warehouse? And if that’s all they really want it for, the valuations they’re putting on the stuff is nuts at times. I watched two of them, the UT/Kane one seemed to have an obvious “we need this one incredibly important urn” which Taker just happened to remember where it was when they obviously had already located it and had to create the show in reverse.

I mean I’m weird but hearing about the importance and origins of Valentines Heartbreaker shin guard was interesting - that stuff always interests me. Ring props are my jam. The collections of some of these Superfans are cool too. I mean dude this week after Beefcakes MegaManiacs mask. I’m too the point where I’d rather watch 7 minutes about someone talk about The Dream Team and Valentines robe and it’s importance than see Foley get thrown off the cell or the Austin 3:16 promo for the 1900th time.

Watching the Bret episode again and what I like about these A&E productions is how they're able to get all this rare footage and photographs. I'm similar to UT where it's like really? Mick Foley? 4 books wasn't enough? But then you're seeing all this rare footage from his younger days that I can't recall ever being shown and it really seems like you're seeing the definitive version.
It's like Darkside of the Ring. While I'm in no rush to see the North Korea episode, I'm glad they put it to film because when Bischoff told the story on 83 Weeks it was one of the most captivating wrestling podcasts I've heard. I like that these episodes exist and I can tell my brother or a colleague to check it out and it doesn't feel like a WWE propaganda piece.
