So the biggest story this year happened on the weekend. On Twitter a fan claimed he was escorted backstage to the locker room and verbally berated by Bully Ray for heckling the heels. We've yet to hear both sides, but from the sounds of it, the fan was heckling the Beautiful People, they got offended and got their boyfriends (Delirious and Bully Ray) to sort the fan out.

From what I've heard, the guy's comments were definitely out of line to just be called "heckling the heels", but Mandy Leon also spat on the guy and... yeah, I don't really buy the guy who cut promos saying "We've got a woman here teaching her daughter how to suck dick" and all that other shit being some sort of champion of feminism. He's just mad some guy booed his girlfriend because he, Bully Ray, is a giant fucking mark, and wouldn't have given a single shit otherwise.

It's one of the most embarrassing wrestling stories I can remember reading in a long time. Those two goofs have been eroding basically everything positive about ROH for a long time now but this is a whole new level.
If the fan was crossing the line with his comments (which he very well may have been), throw him out of the building. Don't take him backstage and try and intimidate him because your feelings got hurt.

Been following this story and I support Bully on it and totally believe pretty he simply told the fan to knock it off but did not threaten him. I knew Velvet while she was still Talia. This is a girl who was trained alongside Mercedes Martinez and was greeted for years with chants of show your tits. I watched a drunk girl rush the ring, throw a beer at Velvet then try to get into the ring while screaming she was a whore and Talia just brush it off. I also met Bully and like many of the old ECW guys, he is intimidating as shit to talk to, which can turn a conversation like knock this shit off into something a whole lot more menacing. Other fans on reddit chimed in that this guy was causing problems not just with the Allure but with everyone for a day and a half at that point and even fans were getting upset with them. What set off Velvet was he he said she let Bully stick his dick in her. He was not just booing the girls but doing shit like offering them money to sick his dick and making very personalized insults to them about guys they rumored to have hooked up. All three members of the Allure said he really crossed a line and even fans were asking him to knock it off before he was brought backstage. For two days he did shit like this and that is when they brought him backstage and asked him to stop. Most places would have bounced his ass, and some would have thrown him out and the guys would have really scared the shit out of him. If I pulled that shit on Velvet at the shows I was at Jason Knight would have most likely left me in a heap whether I helped at the dojo or not. Other fans reported the guy did act like he was really enjoying the rest of the show, not something you would expect if you were seriously threatened.

Even if the guy was behaving like a total jackass (which I'm likely to believe) the way ROH went about it was completely unprofessional.
I think the fact that this is the biggest story to come out of the company since the Enzo and Big Cass run-in also tells the story.

C'mon c , I'm not reading that wall of text before I get some context. "Been following this story" - what story? The story I posted about a few weeks back.
A fan was heckling the Allure (think the ROH's version of the Beautiful People) and Delirious (head booker of ROH, and boyfriend of Mandy Leon, a member of the Allure) escorted the fan backstage where he was confronted by Bully Ray (the boyfriend of Velvet Skye of the Allure).
It was hardly the crime of the century, but 9/10 if a fan is acting up they're just escorted out of the building. The way this was handled was just so unprofessional for a company that's struggling to remain relevant.

My understanding of the story was that the fan got escorted backstage after mouthing off at some heels (as fans do) because the ROH talent misunderstood what the fan was saying. Then some old school shit went down that Bully Ray is denying and the fan has no proof of.
The whole thing is entirely unprofessional and idiotic by all parties. If the fan was yelling something sexual, I'd like to know what they were yelling and in what context. Also if the police aren't involved then they need to just move on.

Even if the guy was behaving like a total jackass (which I'm likely to believe) the way ROH went about it was completely unprofessional. I think the fact that this is the biggest story to come out of the company since the Enzo and Big Cass run-in also tells the story. Taking the dude backstage, asking him to knock things off because he was upsetting wrestlers, and letting him enjoy the rest of the show is pretty damn professional. End of the day Bubba and Delirious solved the issue of him bothering wrestlers without having to kick him out. Let's break down what actually happened based on what he said. The fan claiming he was just being a fan started to make very sexual statements at the Allure. The Allure go backstage upset and a few minutes later Delirious goes to get the fan saying they wanted to talk about an incident. Bully comes out in full gear because he was heading to the ring to talk to the guy. His words as quoted by the report: He said “hey. I heard there was incident tonight with you and some of the girls” “Uh... yeah? I guess” *I’m so lost* “So here’s the deal. You’re done talking down to them. You need to treat them with respect. Don’t be saying anything you wouldn’t say to your mom, you got it?!” I’m not trying to act tough. I was legit being intimidated with purpose and I wasn’t about to get kicked out during match 3 so I just bit the bullet and said “sure... yes sir... yeah, I understand... yup...” He said “End of convo. Go be a fan” That is what people are considering unprofessional and over the line. The kid writes about how scared he was, but not of Bully. He was scared he was getting kicked out of the show during the third match. Now what did Bully ask him? To stop what he was doing to the girls. Or basically to stop with the sexual comments and just be a fan. He felt intimidated but he was talking shit out Velvet Sky fucking him just five minutes before and Bully is naturally intimidating. But he did nothing or said nothing to threaten the kid, just told him to stop talking like he was to the girls. As for Bully, he was being a locker room leader solving a problem on a show the best way he could. He had upset talent, a disruptive fan that was upsetting talent and other fans so he went out and tried to do something. I stopped going to RoH live shows because of fans like this guy. I had second row seats and a show was still ruined for me as the kid in front of me just shit talked everyone nonstop for hours trying to get them to interact with him. When someone did give the attention it was Corino blowing blood out of face at him, which covered me with lovely Corino blood and spit. Needless to say I never went to another RoH show. But overall this stuff seemed pretty professional to me. One minute chat with Bully and kid got to enjoy the rest of the show. Bully's statement lines up with the kids. He never threatened him, never berated him, just told him to knock it off the sexual comments as it was upsetting the talent. In the future, things will be handled less professionally now as instead of a one minute chat with Bully or someone, fans will just be ejected and barred from future events.

There's a difference between having a 'chat' and intimidation. If the guy was behaving that poorly through the two tapings, then just eject him for the benefit of others. The message Bully Ray sent is that if they don't like your chants, you're going to get an invitation backstage where the wrestlers are going to brow beat you. Imagine if you try and stand your ground?
Even Bully Ray admits they should have just ejected the fan. I actually side with the idea that he had good intentions and try a win/win but it's blown up in his face.
Of course it doesn't help that it is Bully Ray, a guy known for trash talking the fans with some of the lewdest comments.
Also like RT, the wrestling world moved on. ROH released a half-assed statement that made them look like an even bigger clown show than what they are and that was the end of it.

The wrestling world moved on if you live in a bubble. But with a wrestler getting groped last weekend elsewhere the treatment of female wrestlers by fans kind of is something that should get more attention.

Ding Dong RUSH defeated Taven at Death Before Dishonour.
Last I heard Taven was coming off contract and was weighing up a deal with the WWE. A Bennett-Taven reunion wouldn't be the worst thing to happen.

I caught the October 27th edition of ROH.
Silas Young & Rhett Titus & Cheeseburger & Joe Hendry vs. Jeff Cobb & Josh Woods & Kenny King & Bryan Johnson I believe this was some kind of wildcard match. Anyways this was 16 minutes and was treated more as a showcase with a couple of stories being tossed in there. Young-Woods seem to have this mentor-protege thing going on, because Woods was constantly upstaging Young. Johnson who is this bland shaved head not particularly tall, not particularly short top prospect guy has this ego gimmick where he got everyone to get off the apron because he wanted to take them 4-1, it didn't last long. Match ended with Woods scoring a roll up on Silas. I didn't care for this at all and it kind of summarises what I dislike about ROH. It feels like all these pieces that don't go together having these overly long matches that rarely hook. It was also at this point where I realised that Ian Riccabani is becoming more like Mauro Ranallo and Excalibur with all these invasive pop culture references.
The Bouncers vs. Two Prospects Who I Can't Remember Basic fat guy squash match for the fat guys. Lots of body splashes and what I like to call sumo selling where the fat absorbs the strikes. You never hit a fat guy in the stomach, it's like hitting iron or a polynesian in the head.
One thing I like about ROH now is that the presentation is a lot snazzier. They've cut out the entrances and other tropes shows rely on and skip straight into the action. They also run more backstage promos, which are short and sweet but give the guys the opportunity to get their personalities over. Nothing overly memorable but at least I understand some of the characters better. Oh and Bryan Zane from Wrestling With Wregret is on the show now, which is actually kind of cool. I'm not a huge fan of his format, but it's nice to see a fan who produced a few YouTube videos was able to get a gig.
Angelina Love vs. Sumie Sukai vs. Jenny Rose A fairly sloppy women's match with a couple of 'moves' to stop it from being completely horrendous. I still think women are at a disadvantage and unless they have amazing charisma or they're fantastic in the ring, they're really not worth the time. I think the women's division in ROH is completely forgettable and just seems like them jumping on a trend without really investing in it.

Just found out Final Battle is two Fridays from now in the Baltimore area. Main event is PCO challenging Rush for the ROH Championship. I've mentioned before how PCO is one of the few modern wrestlers who could get me to a live show. And here he's going for a (kinda sorta) World Championship! So there's a chance I attend this show. All depends on whether or not I have anything else going on that Friday night/Saturday morning. Here is the announced card....
Rush (c) vs. PCO- ROH Championship Match The Briscoe Brothers (Jay Briscoe and Mark Briscoe) (c) vs. Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham- Tag Title Match Mark Haskins vs. Bully Ray Street Fight Matt Taven vs. Vincent- Grudge Match Shane Taylor (c) vs. Dragon Lee- TV Title Match Villain Enterprises (Marty Scurll and Flip Gordon) vs. Bandido and Flamita Jeff Cobb vs. Dan Maff
Tag Title Match could be good. I always have time for some Bully Ray. Hopefully he drags Generic Workrate Guy #97 to something decent. I popped for Vincent against Taven thinking Vincent=Virgil  Turns out it's just that weird scrub Vinnie Marseglia from The Kingdom. Dan Maff sighting! That was unexpected. I guess the blackballing is over? It only took 14-15 years.

You know, I really think I'm going to do this. How could I live with myself if I missed out on Top 25 all time favorite Quebecer Jean Pierre Lafitte finally winning a kinda sorta important singles title? After all, this is a guy who is still kicking himself over missing out on such classic Baltimore shows as Great American Bash 89, KOTR 94, Great American Bash 96, and Angle/Taker at No Mercy 2006. Plus lots of other stuff.
Then there's the bragging rights. Why surely nobody else in the world would have attended Final Battles 2002-2004 and *long gap* Final Battle 2019.
The biggest potential problem is if I have to work at my usual 5 a.m. start time the following Saturday morning. And I'd be so pissed if PCO lost. But that's actually good! Because it means I'd be totally invested. It's still to real to me, dammit!
Now I'm thinking of the biggest personal draws in modern wrestling. List time!
1. NWA Powerrr- Would definitely go all the way to Philly for this. May even go to an Atlanta taping at some point if they get their mojo back. 2. Toru Yano- Would definitely go to DC, and consider a Philly trip for Yano 3. PCO in a big title match 4. Billy Gunn or Goldust challenging for the AEW Championship 5. Teddy Hart 6. Matt Hardy doing something big and/or weird 7. Lacey Evans challenging for either WWE Women's Championship 8. Hiroshi Tanahashi 9. Nick Aldis defending the NWA Championship 10. WALTER

ROH Final Battle 2019 ROH World Championship Match PCO vs. RUSH (c)
Before the match begins, they aired a video package that focused entirely on PCO's journey. In my time following the weekly televisions leading up to the show, they barely hinted at any of this. So PCO is being presented as this veteran wrestle who made a deal with the devil to get one last run in wrestling. PCO no longer stands for Pierre Carl Oulette, it stands for Perfect Creation #1 and there was an elaborate Frankenstein esque process involving some guy called Death Strow. Something about when a man dies they have 14 days before their soul departs from their body, so PCO waited 13 days before being brought back. It was nuts but it's also the best way to present this guy who for years was known as the pirate who stole Bret Hart's jacket one time.
Meanwhile RUSH cut an intense promo in broken English because that's all he really had to do to sell this match. In ROH he's never been pinned or submitted and now he's taking on this wacked out 52 year old who underwent a satanic ritual and thinks he's a zombie. I'm perfectly fine with him playing the straight role here and will say that at the very least he carries himself as a champion. When he made his way out in his black and white suit with the bull mask I bought him as a credible champion.
Tale of the tape has RUSH at 6'5 and PCO at 6'1. Both men come together in the middle of the ring, they appeared to be the same height, and if anything PCO may have been slightly taller. I thought the WWE was the only company that lied about height? RUSH tore off his stripper pants to show he was ready, and PCO also got in the spirit by taking his jacket off and twirling it for the crowd before placing it on his turnbuckle. If nothing else, this Baltimore crowd seemed far more into PCO's routine.
The match opened with a brawl with both men trading blows. RUSH appeared to get the upper hand with the bicycle knee only to get bludgeoned with a JBL style clothesline from PCO. RUSH rolled out of the ring, grabbed a chair and since he thinks he's an undead zombie, PCO decided it was the perfect time for a tope. PCO chose poorly, and in an awkward spot, just had to lean outside of the ropes as RUSH threw the chair in PCO's face. As PCO laid prone on the ropes, RUSH grabbed the chair and cracked PCO right at the top of his skull in a spot that had to have hurt. It looked as nasty as a Rock chair-shot from the Attitude Era.
RUSH started working PCO over around ring-side. At one point he grabbed the cable from one of the ROH's camera, got the camera man to follow him and then proceeded to whip PCO. RUSH rolled PCO back into the ring and continued to work over Oullette. At one point, RUSH has PCO set up for his finisher but right as he's in position to execute the dropkick, he instead rakes his boots across PCO's face and continues taunting. At one point, while doing his Los Ingobernables taunt on the apron RUSH baited PCO into doing another clothesline only to turn it into a rope assisted triangle choke to try and take out PCO's one decent offensive move.
Then in perhaps one of the most elongated 'setting up the furniture spots' in Professional Wrestling history, RUSH went on a mission to try and introduce a ladder into the match. As he was celebrating his triangle choke on the apron, RUSH spotted the tiniest ladder towards the back of the building. If this was any other show, he wouldn't have seen it, but since this is 2019 ROH, and there's barely anyone there he would have been blind to have missed it. RUSH grabbed this ladder which only had about three rungs, it looked like a prop from the Wee-L-C match and he slowly made his way back to the ring. The best part of all of this was the camera showed PCO leaning against the corner, still selling his arm while Rush stands around surveying the situation like a high tech engineer, tries to set the ladder up in the corner before saying hell to it. To buy some time he chased the referee out of the ring, just set the ladder up as normal and whipped PCO into the ladder who went along with the spot. The whole thing was just so ridiculous.
Fortunately they didn't dwell on this too long. PCO no sold a body splash onto the ladder to hit his own. Big Pop-Up Powerbomb followed by one of the best suicide cannonball spots you'll see. The guy is 52 years old, in 93 fans were going crazy over a 49 year old Funk hitting a moonsault, in 19 we now have much bigger and slightly older wrestlers hitting moves that should be saved for the Olympics. PCO wasted little time and went for his kill-shot, the top rope senton onto the apron. This move looks like the most painful move to take in all of wrestling and fortunately for RUSH he didn't have to as PCO once again crashed and burned.
RUSH decided to punish PCO for attempting such a wicked spot by driving him through the table. RUSH hit a front suplex, but since it appears he's cursed, the table didn't break and RUSH was forced to find another cruel and unusual punishment for the zombie. RUSH dragged PCO to the entrance ramp where PCO's Hurst happened to be parked. On the face of it, I presume PCO and I share the same driving skills. RUSH was not pleased with this parking arrangement so he spat on the Hurst and then on PCO before wiping PCO out with the barricade. RUSH then started dismantling barricades and built up a pile with a couple of chairs thrown in as pillows. He dragged PCO up to the stage where they brawled some more and hit PCO with another sick head-butt and then proceeded to throw PCO off the stage onto the barricades for a nasty bump.
RUSH taunted for awhile only for you would never guess to arrive. Death Stro made an appearance! Looking like a thin Rip Torn, Death Strow rushed to the Hurst dismantled and found an electric charge to bring PCO back to life! PCO and RUSH went right back at it trading punches. PCO got the better of it and chokeslammed RUSH onto the Hurst. PCO then proceeded to hit a leg drop onto RUSH who was on the hood of the hurst before climbing the roof of the car. In possibly the biggest bump of the year, PCO charged right into an overhead suplex and proceeded to fall flat onto the concrete floor below.
If I took such a fall, it would be the end of me. For PCO it was a flesh wound and he got straight back up and started going after RUSH with a crowbar. He took a few swings before RUSH quickly grabbed an equipment case and pegged it at PCO. Realising that PCO was just going to keep going after him, RUSH decided to try and wrap things up quickly as possible. He made his way to ring-side where he grabbed three doors from underneath the ring and set them up as PCO stumbled his way to ring-side. RUSH hit a snap german on PCO, a move his brother Dragon Lee used to win the ROH TV Championship but this time it was only two. Ian Riccabani makes a good point that it was first pinfall attempt RUSH has made all match and now he's beginning to look desperate.
RUSH went up top and hit a big Senton only for PCO to kick out at 1 and do the Undertaker no-sell. RUSH grabbed one of the doors and cracked it over PCO's head which seemingly made him made. He went for a running body splash only for RUSH to reverse it into a release overhead suplex into another door. Finally the curse had been broken as the door shattered. With PCO perfectly purched, RUSH went for a Bull Horns only to get speared through a door in the adjacent corner. 2 count for PCO as he pulled RUSH out of the wreckage and went up top to hit his version of the moonsault. In typical PCO fashion, the moonsault is a touch more impressive than usual but still he could only score the two count. How could they possibly end the match?
Death Strow rolled a table in for PCO which he set up. When he turned around he got clobbered by a chair by RUSH, but instead of capitilising RUSH turned his attention to Death Strow. RUSH caught Strow with a deadly clothesline before throwing him over the barricade. RUSH rushed back into the ring only to be caught by a chokeslam by PCO. PCO then set RUSH up on the table, hit another moonsault and finally scored the win.
A crazy match, but it was everything that I wanted from a RUSH vs. PCO match. A far from conventional match, it didn't get dragged down in trying to be something that it wasn't and it was very character driven. Recently I reviewed a lot of RUSH's matches and theorised if they allowed him to work a heated brawl it would suit him and I thought that was easily the case. As far as putting the belt on a 52 year old garbage wrestler, it's not ideal, but RUSH wasn't setting the world on fire as champion and if there's one thing ROH needs it's more established stars. I don't think it should be a long reign, three months absolutely tops, but at least it makes PCO feel relevant to the company instead of just this oddity on the roster.

A couple of take-aways from the recent ROH TV Tapings.
Despite rumours to the contrary, Marty Scurll was on the show and they didn't do anything to write him off the show so it appears he'll be staying. I've been really disappointed with the way Scurll has been featured. I thought Villain Enterprises was the step in the right direction for him to run roughshod over the roster, instead he's been made to carry the six man tag division. Scurll is good in that role, but of anyone on the roster, he seemed to be the most obvious choice as champion.
RUSH formed his own stable with Dragon Lee, Kenny King and Amy Rose. Since RUSH revealed the group during PCO's World Title celebration, it appears they'll start straight up with Villain Enterprises. It should lead to some enjoyable combination of matches, especially since both groups have three titles between them.
Bully Ray put Maria Manic through a table to set up an intergender program. I could be wrong, but I don't believe Bully ever got his comeuppance for doing a stunt like this? This is a fun twist and it's good to see ROH actually get behind one of their female talents. I've only seen small GIFs of Manic so I don't have a lot to go on, but my issue with ROH's Women division is how easily it's taken for granted. They could have a great match, they could have a bad match and it doesn't matter because they'll still work the third match on the card with the same core roster that hasn't made a difference.
A vignette was played for their newest signing Slex, an Australian wrestler with this stylish business gimmick. I really should pay more attention to the domestic scene because I'd never even heard of this guy before. It seems like they're starting to get more international interest which is great, not just from an Australian perspective but hopefully it allows for different styles and characters.
Vincent Marseglia recruited Bateman to his Ring of Horror stable. It seems like Villain Enterpirses and this Ring of Horror group should run a foul of one another, but since they're intent on pushing Vincent giving him his own entourage seems like a smart move.
Silas Young and Josh Woods defeated The Briscoes to earn a shot at the ROH Tag Team titles. I'm happy to see some fresh blood in the ROH Tag Team division, the cupboard was looking bare with the Briscoes (in their 18th year in the company), Gresham/Lethal, Castle/Hendry etc. but with Gresham distracting the Briscoes, this was likely a way just to build to a Briscoes/Gresham & Lethal rematch. It's fine, but if you're going to build a division, you need to give these guys the right amount of attention.
I won't spoil the results since I haven't seen the matches, but the card looked pretty decent.
ROH Final Battle Fallout 2019 Hallowicked vs. Mark Haskins Sumie Sakai vs. Nicole Savoy Alex Shelley vs. Johnathan Gresham Bateman vs. Tracey Williams Silas Young & Josh Woods vs. The Briscoes Rey Horus vs. Flip Gordon Dan Maff & Jeff Cobb vs. PCO & Marty Scurll

Gifs of Maria Manic absolutely destroying Angelina with a press slam on the announce table and an absolutely vicious looking powerbomb piqued my interest, but if it's just to set up a program with Bully Ray - yeah, nah.

Life got in the way and I never did make it to Final Battle 2019. A shame. Seems like it would have been a hoot live given the pro-PCO crowd and my man winning the belt. About to watch it now.
