Not a huge CFB crew around these days (and I probably won't be able to watch as many games as I did last season) but still worth a thread now that Week 0 has come and gone. Unfortunately I watched my adopted Hawaii Warriors get the tar beaten out of them by UCLA. Michigan transfer Zach Charbonnet ran for 106 yards and three touchdowns on just six carries in the first half. :lol: The Bruins will face a tougher test next with their big out of conference matchup against LSU.

The big games in Week 1 are Penn State vs Wisconsin at noon on Fox, Alabama vs Miami 3:30 on ABC, followed by Georgia vs Clemson in primetime. 

I know it's as unlikely as Rutgers getting in, but I hope Alabama don't make the playoff this year.

They're due for an off year.

If Miami were to belt Alabama, They should be #1. If they were to lose to Michigan State, they should drop down to 20th. The way rakings are handled is stupid. It would be more realistic that way.

Great game to kick off the season proper tonight between Boise State and UCF. Boise jumped out to a 21 point lead in the first half on the back of a 100 yard interception return TD only to completely fold in the third quarter with some abominably bad playcalling, and allow UCF to come storming back to win 36-31. So great to have raucous CFB crowds back again!

Fucking something as simple as handing the ball off costs us the game. Garbage red zone offense.

Think we can pretty much fast forward to Alabama vs Georgia in the SEC championship game. Clemson looked really rough against the Bulldogs, they couldn't protect worth a damn and were completely unable to make any sort of adjustment. It doesn't look to me like they have designed a scheme that takes advantage of Uiagelelei's strengths in the slightest. Georgia's offence wasn't much better, but that defence is downright nasty. Nice to watch a defensive dominated CFB game for a change.

I still think ND is too high ranked all things considered and I can see this win in OT vs a once struggling FSU side maybe bump us down. Not as high on the side this year but we lost so much on defense and of course Ian Book, it's all about the running game this year. I think vs the mid tier sides like FSU, sure we can win but vs the big bad teams on the schedule, I don't know.

The main problem on defence was the bizarre decision to go to a 3 man front when they had the big lead. They were killing the FSU o-line in the first half and then completely abandoned it for more of a prevent look even though they were covering the pass game perfectly well. Marcus Freeman was great with Cincinnati last season but he nearly cost them the game tonight.

Brian Kelly joking that he should have executed his players with the way they played today is why he will never ascend to be an NFL head coach, no grown ass man would listen to that. He has come a long way from when he'd yank a QB and chew them up turning tomato red while doing so but cmon.

If it was one time, I get it but he has had past things done since being the ND coach that don't really give him the exception here. As I mentioned the berating of a QB on TV in the sidelines got to be over the top at times. 

I know clearly he doesn't mean it but I don't know why you even say it in a post game interview. Sometimes, you gotta go the Belichick route and give fluff or non-substantial answers. 

Or sometimes you just say things that clearly have no ill intent behind them. His history is another thing but this quote is nothing.

The big news this week has been the Big 12 inviting BYU, Cincinnati, Houston and UCF to counter their losses of Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC.

There's two ranked vs ranked games this week: Oregon vs Ohio State early on Fox, followed by El Assico between Iowa and Iowa State on ABC. Late there's also Michigan vs Washington and the Holy War between BYU and Utah.

13 ranked teams have lost which is the most ever through two weeks of a season - albeit there has been more ranked vs ranked games than usual.

I watched replays of the two rivalry games today. Iowa State really ruined any chances they had by turning the ball over constantly, Iowa didn't need to do a whole lot being handed 20 points from turnovers. BYU faired much better ending their long streak of losses to Utah thanks to a very solid performance by Jaren Hall who is doing a nice job filling the shoes of Zach Wilson.

The now vacant USC job is the off field story of the week - Cincinnati's Luke Fickell and SoCal native Eric Bieniemy are the two names being heavily linked.
