Well that sucked. Only one game but it couldn't have gone much worse. They didn't even fight!
Hopefully the top six actually decide to turn up tomorrow night.

I get coming out slow on a back to back but holy fuck. Mrazek had to stand on his head or Ottawa would have been up 7-0 at the end of the 2nd. And then he got hurt! Yay!
Leafs mount the comeback and make it respectable but still lose 3-2. Two questionable hooking calls (lifting the stick is hooking now, apparently) killed their momentum so it isn't entirely their fault, but still, they put themselves in that hole.
Kill them on Saturday please.

So, Glendening is allowed to bump Trouba, which causes Shesterkin to fall over is ok? Lessons learned. Tough team.

Rangers look really bad out there tonight out the gates but Adam Fox with much needed offense out there. Fox is a real pleasure to watch, you kinda take for granted the fact that he's going to do five ridiculous things every game. It was Panarin who was kinda crap tonight which was disappointing considering everyone else started to get things together in the second half tonight. Annoying to lose like that after the fightback but at least the performance was trending in the right direction. They better beat Montreal considering they lost 5-1 to Buffalo.

Sheldon Keefe: “I didn’t get the memo on not being allowed to lift guys’ sticks.”
John Tavares: “hooking call was ‘brutal.’”
For those unaware that’s hockey speak for “those refs deserve to die of cancer.”
I really wish Keefe went off though. I would’ve chipped in a fiver or Timmy’s gift card for the fine.

I also did not get the memo on the new "non distinct kicking motion" rule. Both allowed goals this season were clearly kicked in. This completely changes that aspect of the game.

We never did our way-too-early predictions so I'm gonna do mine. First few games haven't really swayed how I think the season will end anyway. Early upsets mean nothing.

Metropolitan Division 1. New York Islanders 2. Pittsburgh Penguins 3. Washington Capitals 4. Carolina Hurricanes 5. New York Rangers 6. Philadelphia Flyers 7. New Jersey Devils 8. Columbus Blue Jackets
Central Division 1. Colorado Avalanche 2. Winnipeg Jets 3. Minnesota Wild 4. Dallas Stars 5. Chicago Blackhawks 6. Nashville Predators 7. St. Louis Blues 8. Arizona Coyotes
Pacific Division 1. Vegas Golden Knights 2. Edmonton Oilers 3. Seattle Kraken 4. Vancouver Canucks 5. Calgary Flames 6. Los Angeles Kings 7. San Jose Sharks 8. Anaheim Ducks
Eastern Wild Cards: Florida Panthers, Montreal Canadiens Western Wild Cards: Dallas Stars, Vancouver Canucks

Leafs hold off Ottawa despite John Tavares being absolutely robbed like 3 times and hitting the post at least twice (once on an empty net).
Marner continues to earn his 11 mil paycheck by doing fucking nothing.
The best Leafs so far this season have been Jack Campbell, Michael Bunting, William Nylander, Jason Spezza and Wayne Simmonds. Go figure.
Leafs start an 11 game run of not playing any Canadian teams. First time since losing to Columbus in the Bubble Cup.
Let's goooooooooo

Leafs are doing everything right they just can’t bury one. I’ve seen this before. Either they’re going to score 4 goals in the 2nd period or they’re going to get shut out. There will be no inbetween

Leafs outshot them like 16-3 that period and only got 1 goal.
Take it from this Leafs fan: the Rangers are winning.

Overtime redemption for Panarin. Solid fucking defense from Trouba stopping Austin Matthews who had a wide open net. Rangers really had no business picking up two points if it was not for Shesterkin. Four games in I'm not happy with this team. Not much of an improvement thus far over last season.
1) Rangers gotta be tougher that got JD and JG the boot has been empty words. After the second period ended Simmonds bumped into Shesterkin in the middle of the ice with Simmonds clearly saying something to him. Second incident involving Shesterkin so far with absolutely no response by the Rangers. What a joke.
2) Improved faceoffs? No, the Leafs won 76 percent of the faceoffs last night.
3) The Rangers seem like they are just so slow out on the ice. Years past their opponents had trouble with it. One of their key factors to their success.
4) Depth. Bottom six is weak. Third defense pairing is weak. On top of that the Rangers told Kratsov to leave. Now he is disgruntled and does not want to come back. Since day one there is a lot of "the Rangers need a right winger" how is that a problem already when Drury had all summer to fix that? Kratsov despite his numbers last season is certainly an NHL caliber player and I thought would be a tremendous piece to the Rangers success. Now Kakko is out on the IR and there are rumors the Rangers are trying to make amends with Kratsov who is back home in Russia.
The only glimmer of hope the Rangers have is Shesterkin who is playing like a bonafide number one Vezina trophy candidate.

The only glimmer of hope the Rangers have is Shesterkin who is playing like a bonafide number one Vezina trophy candidate. He was fantastic again tonight - now tied for the top save percentage in the league. I thought tonight's game was an example of exactly what the new setup is supposed to look like - it might not be quite as exciting as before, but that's a game that last season's Rangers probably don't win. Grinding out wins without Strome and Kakko feels really positive and there's still plenty of upside when the offence and power play start to get going.

Watched the Oilers and Coyotes game a bit, switching back and forth between football until that was over. Felt like the Oilers weren't even trying. Arizona is fucking baaaaaaad.
5-1 is a modest score. Felt like Edmonton could have put up 10 goals tonight easily. Just ridiculous how much firepower they have and how atrocious Arizona is. If the Coyotes don't finish dead last this year I'll be shocked.

They would have won 3 cups by now. It won't happen but if he keeps up this pace he'll break Gretzky's single season point total (215). Fun fact: Gretzky holds 8 of the top 10 single season point total records. The other 2 belong to Mario Lemieux.
