I don't know what it was about the womens match. But it was not the best. A crowd that will cheer for everything was damn near silent. I know we often see matches that we feel certain of the outcome, but they often manage to have us questioning throughout. I never thought Tay had a chance.

Good show with some ups and downs. The opening match was fantastic and easily the match of the night for me, even if it get a little heavy on the choreography from time to time. Tag match was decent but suffered from following MJF/Allin.

Miro/Danielson I really liked although it didn’t seem to go down well on social media. The middle of the show was a slog. I thought the Elite crap was awful tbh, a million superkicks and everyone doing everything and kicking out, and Luchasaurus’ incredible SSP didn’t have the impact it should have had in those circumstances. The women’s match was very average and felt like Conti had no chance of winning. The Inner Circle match was garbage and reminded me of one of those matches WWE does at Christmas time with all the novelty weapons.

The main event was very good but I’ll stand firm in this - I think this angle lost some of its heat over the last week or so. This didn’t feel as big as it should have, maybe the predictability hurt it, I don’t know. I’m not knocking the match. It was another great outing for the much improved Omega and Page brought it. It was nice to see them not afraid to use shenanigans in a big way because sometimes the refusal to use bullshit makes the product too clean. Nobody wants to see it every week but in a big spot like this it fit.

Overall a better than average show with some very high points. Obviously AEW fans will do what they always do and proclaim it the best PPV since WrestleMania 17, but in all honesty it was a very solid show.

Shit, I forgot Punk and Eddie. I enjoyed it and it they did it the right way. Eddie isn’t a great wrestler so book around it, and they did. The Cena callback was great.

I can’t even remember what happened in the Cody match. Make of that what you will.

Jay Lethal has always been awesome and bursting with charisma, he’s a solid addition.

Is there a middle finger directive in AEW now? Feels like it happens in every match. Don’t hate it but it’s weird how quickly it’s caught on.

Well it took over two years, but AEW have 'made' their first star. Truth be told, Hangman Adam Page got over in January of 2020 but they've done this long rigamarole to make the championship win feel significant. I think the match delivered without being a watershed moment for the company. It's not going to be one of those 'where were you the night when...' like say CM Punk winning the championship at Chicago but they didn't lay an egg like they did at Revolution either.

I don't know, I thought the match was pretty safe and could have done with more fire. I also get the sense that Kenny is just going through the motions and doesn't pull a lot of stuff out of his kit bag anymore. He just spams a lot of dragon suplexes which doesn't seem like that smart a move considering Page made a comeback not long after. The only 'new' move I can remember him bringing to the match was that top rope powerbomb and at the end of the day what impact did it have?

Otherwise the most memorable spot was Matt Jackson nodding at Hangman...which isn't ideal when somebody who had barely anything to do with the match had one of the most memorable spots.

This is only step one for Hangman and while I have time for him as a personality as a performer I don't know. It's why I think it's smart that they've paired him with Danielson because if he can't have a great match with him he's never going to have one.

Punk-Eddie started off great and while it lost steam there was enough there for it to be one of the better bouts of the night. Outside of the flat finish, my only problem is that really the match didn't resolve much of anything. Punk was proven right and Eddie threw another tantrum like he did last year. Is Eddie going to sacrifice himself in the Death Match next year or was that just a fine excuse to give Punk something to do?

I don't think anything topped MJF-Darby. Maybe that's just my bias because I believe both men are the best in the promotion but they laid out a great match with memorable sequences that all played out perfectly. Not even Danielson could top that match and I have to ask the question, did Miro give Danielson his weakest match in AEW? Not bad per se, but it very much felt like they had a WWE type match. Which is to say Danielson played the under-dog and even then Miro still sold his leg so he couldn't even be that impressive while on top.

The rest of the show was fine but it probably suffered coming off of All Out '21. The tag team match wasn't as good, the Jericho match wasn't as good, the Baker match wasn't as good and Lethal wasn't as good as Danielson/Cole/Soho. One of the big issues with these PPVs is how they time these matches out. Hangman Page/Kenny was a moment they'd been building up for over a year and it barely went longer than the Superclique match. It's still not as egregious as the Casino Battle Royal getting more time than the main event at All Out but it's an issue they've had across all their PPVs so far and kind of makes the show drag. Punk-Eddie stood out because it only went 11 but they delivered the intensity and passion inside that 11 minutes.

I'll be watching this show later, however, I am pumped that Hangman is the champ!! WOO!!!!

One note on Kenny Omega’s match quality dropping off, apparently both his shoulders are fucked to the point he might need surgery to correct them. Meltzer says he can barely lift 50 lbs over his head at this point. One of the downsides of having a long term story like this is everyone has to stay healthy or you blow your investment when there’s no payoff.

Makes me think he’ll be dropping the AAA title to Vikingo and taking time off. Goodbye Super Elite, hello Mount Rushmore.

Anyway match was still very good and I didn’t feel like there was any drop off at all. The contract signing on Wednesday was intense and the crowd was still red hot for Page even after a long night of ups and downs. I thought it was great. Popped in my living room when Page won.

We’re not talking enough about how CM Punk started busting out Cena’s 5 moves of doom and almost got booed out of the building.

Also someone pointed out something interesting: everyone in the Elite wore something pink last night, except for Kenny Omega. I noticed he wore a similar entrance outfit to the one when he dropped the IWGP title to Tanahashi. The one with one wing on his shoulder. He left NJPW shortly after to start AEW.

Makes you wonder what’s next for him.
