I remember the lazy forearms exchange and it cut all the tension of the spot for me. He ordinarily does it to start the match and I don't mind it but in the heat of the match I thought he looked like an idiot. There was also the spot where he slowly crawled away from the Panama Sunrise while Cole watched on that again cut the tension of the match. The pockets spot was his response to the Baybay taunt right? Or did something happen in picture in picture? Ah yes, I liked that crawling spot, didn't think it ruined the tension, it's a sensible and OC way to escape the move. The pockets spot occurred mid way through the match. I don't remember the setup but Cole had his arms up and OC forced them down into his own pockets.

Man, Page/Danielson II has me asking so many questions.
-Is Page going to lose the title on only his 2nd defence against the same person? They spent over 2 years building his title win. I can't see him losing. -Will Page win clean and hand Danielson his first loss? -Or will they go another 60 and the judges will actually be a factor this time? -Do we get a judge decision and whoever loses claims bias/screwjob/etc? -Or is it a screwy finish and Page/Danielson III at Revolution is for all the marbles?
So many ways this match can go and I'm way too invested.

So many ways this match can go and I'm way too invested. I wonder if they'll get Jason Hervey to be a judge, like he was at Clash I? I dunno about that. But considering the last match they used them for was Jericho/Cody at Full Gear 2019, I think they'll follow the same format and have one judge each that are pro whoever is in the ring, then a celeb tie-breaker. I wish William Regal wasn't still employed by WWE because he'd make a great judge for Danielson. For Page it's a tough call. I don't know who would sit for him. He was trained by Jimmy Valiant but I doubt he shows up. As for the 3rd judge, pff. Anyone's call. Kenny Omega would make a good 3rd since he hates both guys in the ring, but I would be shocked if his return to TV is to be a judge. I don't think we'll be seeing him for quite a while. And speaking of that Full Gear match, that was the one where Cody said he'd never challenge for the AEW title again if he lost, and he lost by MJF throwing in the towel. Wonder how soon that comes back into play so that Cody can challenge again since it's technically MJF's fault.

I was only half watching but Ruby didn't kickout of the beast bomb. Wasn't it just a normal powerbomb that the announcer mistakenly called the beast bomb.

The crawling spot just exposed how silly the Panama Sunrise is as a move that OC could move as slowly as possible to avoid it.
That may have occurred during picture in picture, I think he's done that spot a few times before, eh...
Different strokes for different folks.

Again this is just a me thing, but I find Nyla panders too much to the crowd in trying to structure her match like an epic. I'd like to see more intense unorthodox style offense. I also think they need to give Vickie some direction instead of just having her out there counting her money and taking the odd bump.

Still, it was one of several moments and it just made both guys come across as bush league. Cassidy is similar to Rey Mysterio where he rides a very fine line, but while Rey can build a compelling match, OC always takes it too far and usually has one dumb spot in there. That 'top rope nothing' where he took an age to put on his glasses came off and didn't even try to hit Cole with anything just so he could eat a superkick is just one of those modern spots I dislike.
In isolation those spots aren't terrible but when you put them all together in a segment that went twenty-five minutes it's really easy for your brain to turn off. You know my thoughts on Toru Yano, but what works is that his matches are short and he actually values winning matches. His matches always serve a valuable role on the card, whereas this match really did just feel like more of the same. A 'good' match because Adam Cole was a moron and didn't hook the leg.

Yeah the 'top rope nothing' is a dumb spot, but it's certainly not something unique to Orange Cassidy. One of those modern wrestling quirks.

I haven’t watched a lot of Kyle O’Reilly as didn’t watch much of NXT the last few years but wasn’t overly impressed by his debut. His strikes looked weak and unconvincing, and his forearms post match were even worse. Lay your shit in, Kyle.

I've never heard that particular criticism levelled at O'Reilly before.
Recommend you check out his NXT title match against Finn Balor from 2020 (or was it this year?) You'll see what he's made of.

I’ll give it a watch, thanks Emp. Maybe it was a one off thing, but the strikes just came across as so light to me. I’ve heard only good things about him, but that debut didn’t wow me.

Yeah, his strikes in the post match business seemed weak, but not typical for him I think

He def was a harder striker. This was his first work in AEW though so likely he erred on the side of caution rather than coming in wailing on people and having them go what the fuck backstage after. Not everyone is cool taking hard strikes if it is not discussed so this is kind of what you do when unsure.

On night 2 Hook impresses again. He’s over as fuck and I love it, but I wasn’t totally a fan of him no-selling the Rikishi Driver. Felt that was a little much. No sell a DDT or powerbomb or something, not a signature move that is basically a piledriver. Still it was good, and I’m excited to see who they build him up to feud against, and who is the one to knock him down a peg or two.

They turned off replies and gave Cody his own little hashtag symbol. Amazing.

The Young Bucks don't sell being shocked well. They looked pensive for some reason. As if Adam Cole isn't allowed to have other friends.
