Oh speaking of that dimwit of an offensive coordinator....
Seattle is interested in Brian Schottenheimer as their offensive coordinator.
They did it folks, Seattle has hired BRIAN "TOO CUTE SCHOTTY" SCHOTTENHEIMER AS THE OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR. ROFLCOPTER. I get it Bevell sucks, I do get it. But cmon man, THIS IS WHO YOU REPLACE HIM WITH? He was trash with the Jets as OC and basically ran Thomas Jones, Shonn Greene and LT as much as he fucking could till they could run no more, babywalked Mark Sanchez throughout even if Sanchez wasn't great with iconic garbage like the red-green light playbook, had been gifted a stud OLine led by Mangold and Dbrick in their prime and yet could not do jackshit on offense. He had the fucking balls to trot Wayne Hunter out there as his prized RT and legit thought he could replace Damien Woody only to see that fire back on the team. and his fucking fetish for Brad Smith in the wildcat, it worked once in a while don't get me wrong but my goodness it's like the 08 Dolphins were the Michaelangelo inspiration for this guy to draw up plays from 09 onward. This guy help throw the best damn QB in ages in franchise history in Pennington for Favre and him and Mangini didn't have the balls to tell a banged up Favre to sit the fuck regardless of streak. You let Metonio Holmes run a circus in 2011 in Miami to end the season and give zero fucks to do anything to him alongside Rex Ryan. At least Sparano and Morninweg had shit offenses to try and craft something out of even if both stunk, Schotty had some good talent, especially at RB and OLine and got gifted trades for Holmes, Braylon Edwards and had a reliable Jerricho Cotchery to boot and Keller before his career ending injury. Yeah Sanchez wasn't great but he got hampered and never got to do anything with this clown at offensive coordinator. But you know what? It was his 1st time as an offensive coordinator, people live and learn. NOPE. Bombed in St Louis, what a hire that was. Who didn't see that one coming? Sam Bradford the times he played looked overmatched in the pro level and given his fetish for Brad Smith taking snaps behind center, you'd think this god gifted brain would have made Austin a killer in St Louis but alas. If he had been given the chance he would have ran Gurley down to the ground even more than what Fisher did. But hey maybe OC in the pros just isn't meant to be....so he goes to the college levels and fucking duds in GEORGIA! GEORGIA! The team that after soon giving him the heave ho, was in the title game! So he somehow "ressurects" his career by talking to Andrew Luck and Jacoby Brissett like he's some genius playcaller. Nope. Jacoby learned enough from his time in NE to know what to do and not to do. and Luck probably hid back laughter in comparison to what he learned from Arians. This is the man who is sent to help Russell Wilson......he failed a 6 ft QB once already, he's going to do it again. Of course Wilson is FAR better than Sanchez has or ever will be but come the fuck on, how do you seriously hire this baffoon. He BLEW it for this Jets team to ever make the SB. The Drew Brees hype he gave to this man is him being a genuine dude, this dude took it to the next level with Payton in NO. Don't fall for the bullshit folks. FUCK YOU ASSHOLE. I FUCKING HATE YOU AND THAT FUCKING SMIRK. FUCK YOU YOU FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT.

I can't help but think the window has closed in Seattle. They will always have a shot because of Wilson but they aren't the dominate , fear them being on your schedule type team anymore.

The problem with having one of those mid round QB’s being great is sooner or later they don’t want to be paid like mid round QBs anymore and you can’t afford the great team around them. The offensive line was probably the wrong place to cut corners.

Mike Mularkey, and the Titans couldn't come to an agreement on a new contract. So Mularkey is now looking for a new job.

That is the best case scenario for the Titans and Mariota.

In other coaching news:
Josh McDaniels to the Colts: I'm happy they hired someone with an offensive background to go with Luck , provided he is healthy enough to be the same quarterback again. The guy is super talented but I can't help but feel he's been held back by some of the coaching staff in Indy. McDaniels has some pieces to work with in Indy and while their roster is shit without Luck and it might be a few years until they really contend - the offense could be loads of fun to watch.
Pat Shurmur to the Giants: Not sure I love it , but he's a step up from McAdoo I am sure. The Vikings offense went through a huge transformation this season and he gets credit for that - but they also have the benefit of playing with a top defense and a rebuilt line. The Giants have some serious work to do on the line for Shurmur to be successful. Also depends on who the quarterback ends up being.
Matt Patricia to the Lions: Not sure about this one either , obviously he's a Belichek disciple which comes with ups and downs. Not nearly as successful of a coaching tree as one would imagine. Also his defenses were really suspect at time and you have to wonder how much Belichek played a part in the midseason turnaround. The few Patriot fans I know aren't big fans of this guy.

McDaniels will go to the Titans over the Colts now I would imagine. Great result for Mariota and Derrick Henry who have really been held hostage in that butt offensive scheme.
I'd be very happy with Shurmur, I think he is the best candidate available. He has a great track record getting the best out of his quarterbacks which is very important with the Giants likely to draft one with the #2 pick.

Damn, I'm reading Vrabel to Tennessee Titans. That's about a sell out and a half right there.

The hottest job next offseason will be HC of the Texans. I have no doubt O’Brien will blow it with Watson and Hopkins. That team can legit win a Super Bowl if injuries don’t destroy their team and they have an actual coach. Someone’s going to hit the dream job there next season.

Damn, I'm reading Vrabel to Tennessee Titans. That's about a sell out and a half right there. There’s only 32 head coaching jobs. If you want one it’s best not to be picky over what the fan base of your current team will think. Doubt there are five linebacker coaches in the league that wouldn’t move to their team’s biggest rival for a shot at the big chair.

Irsay is a spender as crazy as he is, the Titans ownership might penny pinch for a candidate if their interviews are anything to go off of. That would make the different for McDaniels services.

Down goes Haley, I think a few years too late. People give him a lot of credit for Ben's progression, I think it has a lot to do with going from crap protection to an O-Line filled with pro-bowlers (making it one of the best), and a growing cast of super stars surrounding him. He's not the worst play caller out there, but his time in Pitt has been plagued with bewildering playcalls; games the offense would seem to struggle until Ben kicked into the 2 minute drill and was allowed more freedom to call from the line.

I like Haley as a play caller generally, I did in Arizona and in KC too, but the guy should maybe catch a clue to not be a complete asshole to everyone he coaches at all times.

Vrabel got offered a head coaching job for a playoff team. The decision to take the job is a no brainer. Good for him. Plus when I think of him, I still see him in a Pats uniform.

Psshhhh Fuck the Titans and Mike Vrabel. I wouldn't claim a sell out like Vrabel but he's leaving this team to go coach the Titans so he done sold the fuck out. Go coach some other team and I'll be happy for you. He took the money he should have hung here another season he could have gotten a WAAAY better job next year. He's getting paid though he'll be fired in 2 or 3 years after they try to run his coaching staff like they did Munchak and this last bum they fired, he's a shitty defensive coordinator anyways(great LB coach though).

Johnny Morton's out in NY - maybe Haley in as OC to create a double Todd force Blindy? I hope not, I want a fresh mind. If DeFillipo isn't signed as a head coach anywhere, he'd be perfect but why take a lackluster job for a HC who is rightfully on the hot seat. I didn't mind Morton even if McCown made him look far better than what he seemed. Robby Anderson with a back to back off season of a pitiful arrest. What an idiot, he has so much talent and he is throwing it away

He's a coach first off. It's not like he's some long time player for your team that all of a sudden goes to the enemy team and even then, it's football...you know how short a career is...get your money when you can. Who cares where or what he does? I got McDaniels going to Indy, home of Deflategate and I couldn't be more happy for him...move on. He's getting paid...be happy for his opportunity. When you have your coronary over dumb things like this, maybe you'll figure it out. Damn kid...he's a coach...who cares? Be happy he's gone if he's so shitty.

Got respect for Vrabel, he did what was best for his family and he put in the work to get this far. Paid his dues bybcoaching his alma mater Ohio St. If Houston wanted him so bad, pay him like a head coach then. This is a business and unless you either holdout ridiculously year in, year out(see Revis) or refuse to hold up your end up the bargain by being in shape(see Revis) or late frequently(Wilkerson), then to make it this far in your craft to be one of 32 head coaches....God bless. Nobody has any stability in the NFL outside of owners, so when the ball is in your court as an individual, go for it.
It's why Belichick was a piece of shit for barring Mangini to get his belongings soon after hired by the Jets in the Pats offices. Comes off petty, belichick should have been happy for his assistant to get the gig but chose to be spiteful and he got what was coming in Spygate. Then again this was the guy who said he "resigned as hc nyj" in a fucking napkin to an owner and didn't have the balls to say it to to their face that he's going to coach New England so not surprising.

Yeah I don't understand the hate for Vrabel , whether he took a job within the division or not. The guy has the right and should take any head coaching job to come his way - there' no promise of a better job next season. You take the money , the exposure and the job every time.
I've generally always been sad to lose good Packer assistants but rooted for them to succeed , and in the case of the ones who I thought were shitty , like Shin with Vrabel I was happy to see them go. If they sucked then who cares? I wish the Vikings would of hired Capers years ago.

And I will add from the Titans point of view , I don't love the hiring. I really wanted them to get someone to work with Mariota who took a huge step back this season. Granted they can still hire an Offensive Coordinator for that but it seems like the best candidates to do so are going to take a HC job or stay where they are at.

Welcoming the Jags and Vikings to this thread , they are crazy similar teams facing almost the same questions this offseason.
Both have a quarterback who brought them close to the Super Bowl , Bortles played well in the playoffs and Case has a career year for the Vikings. Both teams would probably love to upgrade the position but run the risk of regressing even further back than before this year started. I fear the Jaguars will believe what we seen from Bortles is the new Bortles and not take into consideration how much they put into that gameplan to make sure he succeeded - something that cannot be sustained throughout a season.
Keenum is a little different as he is a free agent and some team will likely want to pay him to AT LEAST be a top notch backup if not compete to be a starter. Bradford is also a free agent and they have Teddy two gloves who Zimmer loves. Personally if I were Minnesota I would try and get Case back and compete with Teddy but I could also see him going with Shurmur to New York if that happens.
Other than that they both need help on the offensive line , the Jags need another receiving threat. The Vikings could use secondary depth and some interior defensive linemen to rotate in and out more.

The Vikings QB situation going into next season will be fascinating. It's very difficult to predict, but I think Keenum will leave (and I'll guess Arizona as his landing spot) while Bradford and Bridgewater stick around as cover for each others injury risk.
