ESPN don't seem to understand the concept that if Tampa's shots were inside the posts then Igor likely would have saved them.

Not a whole lot to take out of that first period, played relatively close to the vest by both teams. At least the Rangers have their energy back, although Strome is clearly way off the pace.

Igor is killing it. Tampa’s shots have been way more dangerous than NY’s. They can’t waste this performance. Need a goal.

Rangers have fallen right back into that dump in strategy here in the third period, I don't like it at all.

And of course when they do get a decent look they try for one extra pass instead of just shooting the puck.

Strome acts like empty nets are gateways to the upside down, the amount of simple goals I have seen him miss over the last couple of years is astonishing.

Rangers get absolutely fucked by the refs all game then look like the bad guys because they stuck up for themselves at the end of the game.

I hate this league. Fuck Tampa. Fuck the refs.

Rangers played better, Panarin had a little bit more jump in his step, but the top guys were still no where to be found. Zibanejad, Kreider, and Panarin no quality scoring chances.

The difference with these teams is when Tampa is the better team the Rangers seem to have no chance while when the Rangers are the better team Tampa is still one shot away from taking the lead. Rangers needed that second goal in the 3rd. So many chances, but one little point shot just shattered everything.

Interesting that the Rangers scratched Reaves who gets the team going pre game and was that one guy the Rangers apparently needed to be tough. Rooney has not done well. One of the 5 Rangers on the ice in Tampa who was puck watching before a Tampa goal, and turned the puck over and screened Shesterkin on Tampa's first goal tonight.

Rangers can't rely on their powerplay. Tampa is simply not taking penalties and trusting Vasilevsky to make the save.

I could be wrong, but I think Lafreniere got rocked during the fight against Stamkos.

Did Miller get a hooking penalty for cleanly lifting Perry's stick?

Tampa adjusted to close the lanes to our cross ice passing after the first two games, and the Rangers don't seem to have realised that they can't continue to force it if it's not there. Panarin in particular has been very frustrating in this respect, Tampa are always playing the pass first and he still refuses to shoot and is constantly turning the puck over.

No excuses for that behavior. Glad he is banned from MSG. Criminal side of it, yeah he was arrested (probably back on the street), but the charges are not that serious. Let's also note that this behavior happens everyday in NYC above and below ground and unfortunately no one cares.

Rangers had more cross ice passes in game 5. They think the only way to beat Vasilevsky is to catch him on the move. But, yes they need to be throwing everything on the net. The last three goals in the series (except empty net) all garbage, but they count. Sometimes the only way to beat an elite goalie is a bad bounce that is impossible to see/react/stop.

Unbelievable. The Kid Line is one of the few reasons why the Rangers are 6 wins away from the Cup. Kakko has been one of the best Rangers during their playoff run. What ever happened to "the young players play for the playoff experience" ex: Shesterkin after being pulled twice in round one.

Wow that was rough. A minor (Igor) miracle it's still 0-0. New line combinations have been a disaster, they surely can't come back out with those again in the second period. How they can justify benching Kakko when Strome is clearly barely 50% is beyond me.

The Rangers were 1 period away from going up 3-0 in the series and are now down 3-2 and losing to Tampa in Tampa in the 3rd period.

This game should have never been close.
13 shots through 40 minutes. Pathetic. Shesterkin saved a good half dozen goals. Multiple breakaway saves. Vasilevsky was playing pucks after saves instead of covering it, and had time with the puck too. That is embarrassing for the Rangers. There was no pressure on him. Too easy. You can have the Lundqvists, Shesterkins, Haseks, whoever in net the thing is if your forwards play like they do not belong in the NHL yeah you are not only going to lose, but will have quite the difficulty of scoring goals, shots on goal, and scoring chances. Just such a bad effort by the Rangers. I'm to the point where I had enough they certainly do not deserve to advance.

Gallant's first period analysis was shocking. What game was he watching? It was not an even period. Tampa dominated. I think that is a huge contributing factor regarding the Rangers lack of offense.

Continuous turnovers by Panarin. What happened to him? He seems so slow and never cuts to the middle with the puck while Stamkos, Kucherov, etc are all skating hard and making plays by skating towards the net, not away to the boards.

The Kakko healthy scratch. Shocking. Former 2nd overall pick, kid line, one of the few with consistent aggressive hard "playoff hockey" shifts, one of the few willing to battle on the boards and had success, "gotta play the kids for experience." Scratched in an elimination game for an at best extra forward who has not played since the Pittsburgh series. Why would Kakko want to come back next year? He is just part of the Rangers future it is no big deal. But, hey Reaves signed an extension before the season started. Gallant is so defensive about the Kakko scratch. Did something happen?

Gallant is bringing up the 20 games in 40 days excuse. The tired excuse is laughable. First, I thought the Rangers are a young team. That is what I hear all the time. Young and tired doesn't make sense. Second, if anyone should be tired it should be Shesterkin yet he is the best player on the ice. Third, Tampa has played I would say a decent amount of games the past three years. Fourth, I guess the Rangers will never go farther than round 3 again since they will be tired. How does anyone else advance past round 3 for that matter. Are they tired?

The Kakko situation is very strange, it was a bizarre decision to bench one of the best-performing players on the team. Let's hope it doesn't lead to future repercussions, but if he's pissed off (and he should be) he's got every right. The Rangers already have a track record of alienating young talented players (Kravtsov) so it's hard not to be concerned.

I don't think saying the team was tired is so much of an excuse, just the reality. We played two tough series with Pittsburgh and Carolina that went the distance (and beyond, literally an "eighth" game against the Pens) while Tampa breezed past Florida. You could see that our offence just didn't have the same juice in the last few games. Tampa's defensive strength obviously deserves some of the credit for that, but the extra juice from our stars like Panarin and Fox was noticeably absent. TBL are a roster full of experienced guys who have been there and done this plenty of times before, this is the first playoff experience for the majority of our lineup. Hopefully in the next couple of seasons, they can build on it.

If the Rangers don’t fire Gallant and hire Trotz or Cassidy before the weekend is over then they’re fucking morons.
