He just read a Jobber Nation Podcast tweet and called it a promo. "Nobody has any psychology, everyone drops each other on their heads, AEW sucks, you're all marks, Tony's a mark, I don't wanna work here, wrestling's fake, it's not real, but I'm real and this is a shoot."
I love that the thing Max did to show that this was real (I mean, aside from not selling the 35 powerbombs at all and making Wardlow look like a jabrone) was taking off his fucking scarf and saying "This is Max Friedman. That's right, this is my shoot name, which is exactly the same as my work name." They managed to find something cringier than "This is Phil Brooks talking to Paul Levesque."

And I thought I was working the insufferable anti-AEW gimmick. ^^

Apparently someone else isn't quite as happy in AEW. Thunder Rosa wore some special ring gear at DON that she plan to auction off to support the families of the victims in that school shooting. She wasn't invited to the media scrum. Wasn't on Dynamite after having one of the better matches of the night.

Yeah, I don't get this whole thing with Thunder Rosa, she's your top women's champion, use her.

The problem is as others have pointed out with MJF, that was basically a HHH promo from the late 90's with a bit of Punk mixed in. It was not MJF who is normally more composed but utterly snarky. Also worked shoots are utterly lame.
No clue why Rosa is not used more, but likely just the roster is entirely too big.

So, there's always going to be similarities in the delivery. The interesting part is, he turned the crowd to his side. Yeah, sure he attacked all the foundations and AEW pillars.. but it was the truth.

The AEW audience seems split people who backed the original vision of giving unknowns a chance to shine somewhere and the ones that came in after the signing of the week. Have Punk turn heel on the fans and do an invasion angle. Then have MJF be the savoir of AEW in the end. He did a much better job selling it then I could.
Also going back to Thunder Rosa, she will now be on the Busted Open Friday show every week. They are hoping she will get more female fans to call in and thinking about I never heard a female call in.

Interesting note, when Punk won the ROH title he turned on the company. When Punk won the WWE title he turned on the company. Does Punk win the AEW title and turn on AEW? Or the foundations that AEW was founded on? Look, the points MJF raised were absolutely topical. And it generates emotion from both sides of the argument. If 50% of the audience is pro-TK and the other 50% of their audience is pro-MJF - Fucking run with it. Make great TV.

She also posted on twitter that she won’t be on her socials for a few days (she has a taco vlog and only fans outside of wrestling). The WhatCulture article about her is pure speculation. Shes definitely not getting used like she should but she hasn’t specifically commented on it either.

This is a dissenting opinion seemingly on this board but I think you’ve got some interesting points. While I think the delivery and intensity of the promo was second-to-none, he did bury the company essentially, and got a babyface reaction for it, which buries the company further. There’s also the issue of the follow-up. What happens now? Is he a babyface and if so how is that resolved? If he’s a heel how is that resolved? Does Tony Khan go on TV? That would obviously be awful for AEW TV to have Khan as an on-screen character. There’s a reason why this stuff is not attempted often. It’s too difficult to tie it back in to the actual product and everyone’s left standing around with their dick in their hand. So while I don’t agree with you right now, there is a scenario where in six weeks time this has gone tits up and this promo, however fantastically delivered it was, will be declared a mistake.

Edit 1: She is set to do her first day on Busted Open in 20 minutes. So curious if it still happens or how she sounds. Edit 2: I am not sure she was sent home because she was sick. She sounded fine and energetic for the hour she was on.

I was in attendance for this show and to experience that MJF promo live was incredible. This was a great show I thought but I really liked that, and the main event. Plus, I loved seeing Tanahashi appear, and the return of The Redeemer.

Exactly my issue, this has no payoff. Where does MJF go? There are not authority figures in AEW for him to fight unless Khan becomes on air talent and feuds with MJF. Also if AEW believes they are an equal him threatening to leave undermines AEW. In the past when people did this, the feds always were lesser feds that did not pretend to be equals. Foley in ECW, Punk in RoH, etc, they were always talking about going to the bigger feds.

Dirty Uncle Dave implied MJF was meant to cut a 4 minute heel promo and Punk was meant to confront him setting up a program. Hence why Punk came out as they went to break.
The issue being now, MJF essentially turned during that segment. Anyone who opposes MJF is automatically a heel.
But, I think it's a work. And that's the general feeling I see on socials.

Now it is a work. You do not hand a guy shooting a live mic with the corporate execs in attendance.
If this was a shoot and MJF REALLY wanted out of his contract, there are a few words that would have gotten AEW kicked off of TV he could have used. Also some more shooty taboo wrestling he could have talked about, like drugs or wrestling with concussions. The fact it was a generic promo should tell everyone it clearly is a work.

I don’t know why people are still clinging to it being a shoot at this point. Him showing up on Sunday then being announced for Dynamite was the end of any speculation. I think there’s still contract stuff going on behind the scenes and it’s entirely possible that Tony has agreed to release him in the near future so long as he plays ball for now, but nothing about this is a shoot anymore.

Reports are Rosa was sent home this week from AEW by the doc after she was feeling really bad backstage. Girls is a machine, so likely either worn down or got sick on the road.
Jeff was not cleared for Dynamite either as he got a nasty concussion early on in the Bucks match and has little memory of the match. This was confirmed by Matt.
Sounds like the AEW doc got his shit together finally.

There's a broader theory that this is all setting up a nWo style storyline with MJF referencing these Ex-WWE guys and Hangman referring to Punk as a terrible human-being and the sudden pairing of Punk with FTR is to kick off the angle.

Well, MJF could be champion by beating a former WWE guy after another one is too broken down to even hold the title. If Tony wanted to go all in on MJF now is the time. Turn him MEGA FACE as the champion of AEW, and have him defend the belt against all of the WWE cast offs. This is the fastest way to spin this all in a way that jacks his value up while promoting AEW. Have him say all these stars were unneeded as AEW had the best talent without them and all they did was hold people like him down.
It also gives Tony one hella of a good reason to renegotiate the contract here and now solving the legit heat shit.
Also leads perfectly into Punk vs MJF 3 when Punk returns, which is still on theme.
Tony does this he will appear as a made genius for sure taking several chaotic events and making them all work for him. And likely create one of the hottest storylines with AEW vs WWE in a long time.

I'll be the weirdo. I couldn't stand the MJF promo. It left so little impact on me that trying to remember it now, all I hear is KK Slider Animal Crossing noises. I'll stand with KITN, here. I thought the promo was pretty good. However, to me, MJF has done nothing to be cheered for or rooted for. He sounds like a brat whining when things don't go his way. I don't care that MJF spoke his truth. He buried everyone. They can't lace my boots! I think he's trying to convince himself, not me or other skeptics. I like shoot promos with a purpose. This seemed like the same old MJF crap. This character can't be a babyface.

I loved MJF's promo. Tremendously entertaining. I don't know where they're going with it, I don't know if it can go anywhere, but I'm content to sit back and enjoy the ride. Great job. I'm not going to overthink it and convince myself it's shit because of baseless speculation. It was awesome.
Did he really bury the company or did he just cut a long-winded form of an "I'm the best wrestler" promo, which every wrestler does, plus some added Dan Lambert "attack the IWC" shtick? He did explicitly call out the boys in the back many times so I'm expecting someone to stand up to him.
