Orange beat Hobbs twice, Nick Comoroto and Jericho twice. Why would he get squashed by Wardlow?
I mean, if he can do this, why would he be squashed by Wardlow?
If 5 years go by, and AEW has still failed to create a World Champion that wasn't a former WWE worker or member of Bullet Club - remember this discussion.
They've been gifted a specimen in Wardlow. The type of worker any other company would be salivating over. Putting a 160lb guy in a competitive match with a 265lb monster doesn't elevate both workers, it elevates one. Cassidy. What it also potentially does though, is erases the mystique a guy like Wardlow has, or could have. You want to book a big guy v small guy match and make it work, you can. Look at Undertaker v Jeff Hardy, ladder match. Hardy looked like he had gone into battle by the end of it. He could barely stand. The Undertaker showed a considerable amount of remorse for the smaller opponent, despite being the bigger more dominant athlete. Hardy showed guts and determination to keep fighting. Despite it being a gimmick match, it still told a story. Undertaker looked strong, and Hardy won the hearts of the fans with a gritty performance. That's a little thing called psychology. I get, it's the cool thing to go against the grain these days, and throw logic in the trash. But jeez..
They booked Wardlow pretty strong to this point. I strongly doubt it will go by the way due to this match. That statement is a tad bit hyperbolic.

Either you don’t actually watch AEW or you know these aren’t at all the same thing and you’re just being a dick. This is a discussion. If we all shared the same opinion, there wouldn't be much point to any of this. If it’s your opinion that Dom and OC are the same then there isn’t much discussion to be had.

Brock should pack his bags, and we should get Dom vs Reigns headlining Summerslam.

Making stars is the hardest thing to do in wrestling. It’s about presentation as much as it is booking. This will be the ultimate test for AEW, in 5/10/15 years time when they can’t rely on the trope of ‘we’ll give WWE stars creative freedom’. So far for Wardlow I give them a 9 out of 10, I think they’ve done a really good job with him.

I wonder how people would feel if Dominick Mysterio gave Gunther a competitive 15 minutes?
That's an entirely different scenario. Gunther is playing an unstoppable heel, his role is that of an obstacle that needs to be overcome.
Wardlow is a freshly turned babyface who is trying to get the crowd behind him. It's such a delicate balance, especially in AEW and the context of the roster. I don't think a purely dominant babyface is going to get over in AEW. I think if Wardlow just mowed through everyone, fans would take that as a rejection of their tastes and sensibilities and they would turn on Wardlow. By having him hang with Orange Cassidy it demonstrates his willingness to be a team-player and give back which in turn helps him get over with that crowd.
I do get what you're saying, I just think there's a deeper conversation to be had.

It's amazing the crowd didn't completely turn on the MJF-Wardlow storyline considering how poorly written it was. Just goes to show that if you stick to the classics and cue the fans into feeling a certain way they'll get behind it even when there's some major holes in logic (why did Wardlow have an AEW record when he wasn't an AEW contracted wrestler? Why did he continue to cling to MJF when TK would clearly bend over backwards to sign him? etc.)

I only watch AEW sporadically but Dominik Mysterio comes across as a more serious contender than Orange Cassidy does to me. Hopefully Wardlow can keep his momentum then sign to WWE.

Powerhouse Hobbs is a perpetual lower carder who primarily competes on a YouTube show who would count himself lucky to ever be in a WWE ring.

Not agreeing with Wardlow squashing OC this early into his run, but the only name that matters there is Jericho. And Sky also beat him twice who got squashed by Wardlow.

Those were the bigger guys Orange beat. If physical size is the hangup, OC beat some big dudes.
Match did what it was intended to do clearly, everyone this week is talking about it.

My interpretation of OC is that he pretends he doesn't care to get his opponent to lower his guard.
*shin kick* *shin kick* *winds up*
Opponent gestures to crowd: can you believe this clow-- POW REAL SUPERKICK
He does kip ups with his hands in his pockets. You don't get there unless you put in real hours training.
