Ovechkin needed two goals to pass Howe tonight so naturally the Leafs gave up a hat trick to Erik Gustafsson who hasn’t even scored yet this season.

Told you he was playing well. Six in a row now, turns out they could work out how to turn it around.

Underlying numbers indicate that the Rangers are playing far worse these past 6 games. The only number that's been better (in this small sample size) is shooting percentage. Which is unsustainably high. Jets are down their top three RWs now that Blake Wheeler is out a month. Pretty brutal when we grab some bum off of waivers and put him on Scheifele's wing. Luckily we played a garbage team like the Canucks right Lony ? Jets have been missing their best forward all year other than three games in Ehlers, now have Wheeler and Schmidt out 4-6 weeks. Apples too. A few depth players out as well and we're rostering half an AHL team with Sam freaking Gagner in a top 6 role most of the year. Thank god for the best goalie in the league in Hellebuyck.

Don't even get me started on that game Foos, Van City got their asses beat badly. The (not so) best part about it, is I get to witness it live and in person when they play against each other again, on December 29th at the Canada Life Center.

Which is unsustainably high. I think that's probably just an natural evening out. When they were losing the signs weren't terrible, they were shooting a lot and not getting a lot of puck luck (think they still lead the league for most posts) and got goalied a few time. Lately they've just looked a bit crisper, the line changes seem to have freshened things up a bit. Absolutely decimated Chicago tonight, Fox was superb with 3 assists and the kids continue their hot scoring streak. Athanasiou might want to reconsider piping up.

1. Wayne Gretzky 2. Alex Ovechkin 3. Gordie Howe
Gotta say, it was fucking cool how the Jets lined up to congratulate Ovi after the game. Very classy.

I'm excited for tonight's Jets/Canucks game... mostly cause I'm gonna be going after work. I'm being optimistic that the Canucks will win and yeah I know, the Jets beat the Canucks bad, the last time they played. Having said that, the Canucks are on a three game winning streak while the Jets have lost the last three games they've played.

Man, as a Canucks fan, last night was disappointing. Those first couple of minutes, of the first period got me all excited and then it all went down hill.
Any other team and I would have been rooting for the Jets. Speaking of which, was awesome being there at the Canada Life Centre for Gagner's 1000th NHL game, also love to see Scheifele get the hat trick.

I think the Rangers are ruining Lafreniere's potential to grow as a player. He does not get enough ice time to have a consistent opportunity to make an impact as a top six forward. Since November 10th, only twice did he have more than 15 minutes of ice time. Making him a healthy scratch the other night is just not fair to him. Not much of a NHL player Lafreniere will become playing on the 4th line. I'm sure Jimmy Vesey, who the Rangers already gave up on once before, is the future...

Two awful turnovers one by Trouba, and probably the worst turnover I have ever witnessed by "veteran playoff performer" Goodrow against the Devils that led to goals. Shesterkin was once again unbelievable. Can't imagine what he is thinking when his teammates let him down on awful plays. Plus, they still still do not protect Shesterkin when an opposing player makes contact with him. Crazy. I think the Rangers are ruining Lafreniere's potential to grow as a player. He does not get enough ice time to have a consistent opportunity to make an impact as a top six forward. Since November 10th, only twice did he have more than 15 minutes of ice time. A Jimmy Vesey contract extension is not a priority halfway through a (as a team) average to mediocre regular season. Vesey is the type of player who needs to prove he belongs on the team every night, not based on 40 regular season games. Too many forwards on the team who need legit ice time and a bunch of prospect forwards ready to go soon, he will eventually be the odd man out. Wait for the off season, review his performance, and then decide. 1 goal, 2 points in his last 9 games. Doesn't seem like a priority now.

I feel like we've switched perspectives, normally I'm the one getting upset and you are preaching patience. It would be nice if he could have received the treatment that most other #1 picks receive when they are on bad teams for their first few seasons, straight to the top line and PP1 but that was never going to be the case with Kreider and Panarin in his position. At the end of last season everyone was getting hot in the pants about Kakko (me included) and thought the playoff scratching was a sign he would be leaving - fast forward a few months and he is on the top line and is playing his best hockey yet.

Wow what an incredible performance by Fox tonight in an incredibly entertaining game with Minnesota. Hard to comprehend but I think he's gone to an even higher level this season. Rangers now 12-2-2 in the last 16, while NJ gave Carolina their fourth straight loss so the Metro is tightening up as we hit the halfway mark.

Holy shit Foxy and Key did it again! Unbelievable win tonight, Miller's equaliser with 0.2 seconds left in the game to force OT, Mika made the defensive play and set up Fox for the classy backhand winner. The roof absolutely blew off the Garden, wow!

Bruins lost at home for the first time this season. It’s January.
Seattle of all teams ended the streak and Martin Jones has back to back shutouts. Team is red hot right now.
So of course the Leafs phoned it in tonight and got smashed by Detroit.

The Seattle Kraken have scored 5 goals in 6 shots against Chicago and are currently up 5-1 in the first period.
If they win this game they will become the first team in any major sport to sweep a 7 game road trip.
EDIT: it is now 6-1

It's easy to see why Boston is pacing the league in points, they absolutely dominated the Rangers tonight. It was definitely more about the Bruins being excellent than NYR being bad, but there are definitely some obvious coaching issues. PP1 has completely evaporated lately, they pass the puck around the entire time with no urgency and aggression, and there was a laughably bad Gallant moment when Boston's top line iced the puck after being out there for 90 seconds and he put out the fourth line for the face-off.

Islanders/Canucks completed a pre trade deadline blockbuster. Horvat to the Islanders for Beauvillier, Raty, and a top 12 protected first round pick. I'm giving the edge to the Islanders. Beauvillier is a good player, but not a rare find. Top 12 protected pick, talent drops off at that point. Raty is the prize of the deal and has the potential to be something special. Horvat is having a career year on a bad team. A new contract might have something to do with that, but he is still only 27. Many years left at prime performance. Islanders have the cap space to resign. Islanders definitely needed some help up front and now have both Horvat and Barzal as a really nice 1-2. Horvat also brings leadership and character. Top three lines in goal % at the break are PW supported teams RT Foos Zappy What exactly does goals percentage mean? Sounds like analytics.

I’m curious how that is calculated too.
Also amazing how the Toronto line has played 10 more games than the Winnipeg line and is maintaining almost the same percentage. That line is wicked.
And Dallas has two lines in the top 10. That is crazy considering they wre being touted as a defensive powerhouse and not a team that will light you up.
…
The Horvat trade will be especially silly if Lou flips Horvat at the deadline if the Isles are clearly not making the playoffs. Guessing he will extend him though.

Goals percentage is just straight up math. No analytics.
Jets top line has been on the ice for 20 goals scored at 5on5.
Jets scored 15. Other teams scored 5. So 15/20 goals scored are by those three bozos together. Which means 75% of the 5on5 goals scored when on the ice are scored are by the Jets.
Math. Bitches.

Tarasenko and some depth dman to Rangers for a first and conditional 4th (that will become a third) for Sammy Blais. Blues retain 50% of Tarasenko salary. Two thoughts: 1) No Patty Kane for NYR anymore 2) if Panarin and Tarasenko play on the same line, he's gonna snipe a lot of goals for them. ZappyOne less team in the Timo Meier sweepstakes. I guess that means it's down to Carolina, Devils, or Jets.

This seems like a decent make up deal for the Buchnevich disaster trade in terms of value, especially with Sammy Blais getting returned to sender. He was ruined by his ACL injury but it's pretty astonishing he played 54 games without a single goal.
Drury hit on all his rentals last season so hopefully Tarasenko delivers as well, although I have been reading he's been a bit underwhelming the last 18 months. I think Mikkola is a nice add too, hopefully we're getting an upgrade on Harpur for the 3rd D pairing.

This looks like a lopsided deal to me. Rangers gave up nothing of significance, no everyday roster player nor no top prospect was dealt. This makes up for the awful Buchnevich deal who has become a point per game player with the Blues. Finally a legitimate top six. Vesey to the 4th line please.

Rangers are on an absolute tear at the moment. A six game winning streak with 31 goals scored. Panarin and Tarasenko aren't actually playing together but his arrival seems to have really boosted Artemi, he's looking significantly more decisive and hungry.
Vancouver is one of the worst defensive teams I've seen, their inability to cover the backdoor was horrendous tonight. They had a goalie making his debut and he had no chance.

Hey y’all.
Since NFL is done, I need to look elsewhere to make money. NBA and NCAA are good for me, but I enjoy betting on hockey too. Larkin made me some nice money yesterday as I banked on him to keep his hot streak of scoring going. I proceeded to lose that profit money on NYR ML/Under last night but that broke my day even.
So my questions; what’s going on with Colorado? I feel like I see them as underdogs more often than usual this season. Why aren’t they this scary team anymore? Boston has been great for me so far this season as I like betting on them when they’re down 1 goal like I just did against Dallas. I refuse to bet on the Oilers or McDavid. Every time I bet on him to score, he doesn’t. Hyman does. Every time I bet them to win, they lose.
So they’re in the same category as the Lightning for me. What happened to Tampa btw? I thought getting a healthy Point back would help them but they’ve underwhelmed my pockets. Also Toronto has too many good options to bet on to score although all 3 scored yesterday. I can’t tell who the main guy to bet on is. Nylander, Tavares, Matthews. Betting on them to win also frightens me.
So far my go to teams have been Boston, the Rangers, Islanders and since they’re on the latest and I’m a degenerate the Kings.
Bo Harvat won me money in his home debut as did Tarasenko. Loved betting new guys to score on their home debuts. Also love betting on Zibanejad to score. Dude is a machine. Kreider, not so much.
Who’s the dark horses to bet on this season? Nashville? Calgary? Vegas? Dallas? New Jersey? Someone give me the inside scoops.
My bet I’m thinking for tonight since I got a 50% profit boost on my next NHL bet is a goal scorer from the Jets since they’re playing the Blue Jackets. Just don’t know who to pick there.
