KING KID alright here's a few thoughts...

Colorado
Plagued with injuries this year. They spent the past 2-3 years gunning for a championship, got it, and while this year started off promising, everyone got hurt. Also they traded their starting goalie and the replacement hasn't been as good. Still, they're in a playoff spot despite all that and on an upswing (6-2-2 in their last 10 games) and will likely stay far enough ahead of Nashville that even if Minnesota passes them in the standings they'll still stay comfortably in a wild card spot.

Boston
Everyone wrote them off as the old team that was going to go for it one last time before they blew everything up. Well, they are certainly going for it. They have completely overachieved what everyone predicted and might end up having one of the best regular seasons of all-time. Continue to bet on them (especially if they face Toronto in the playoffs).

Edmonton
They are the Toronto of the west. Whatever you think they're going to do, assume the opposite will happen.

Tampa Bay
They have perfected the art of cruising through the regular season to stay comfortably in a playoff spot only to turn it on in the playoffs and become a machine of death and destruction. The last time they finished 1st in the regular season, they got swept in the first round by Columbus. It was embarrassing. And I have to think they decided "fuck it, we will just make the playoffs and focus on that," which worked wonders ever since (2 Cups and a finals appearance). They're literally on cruise control right now and might fuck around and finish 2nd in the league. It's nuts how good they are. And for what it's worth, their coach has said that last year's playoff round against Toronto was their hardest one as a team. Doesn't make me feel better.

Toronto
William Nylander is having a breakout season and shooting better than he ever has. And thank god because Auston Matthews has been injured twice and missed a lot of time. He's back now, and will likely start lighting up goalies again, but watch Nylander. He might put in 50 this year.

Dark Horses
Not sure if it counts, but Dallas would be my pick as a dark horse, even though they're leading the Central. They were supposed to be a decent team with great defence but for some reason they decided to start scoring too. Jason Robertson has been amazing and everyone else seems inspired by him to also try and score. They'll be the team everyone writes off in the playoffs despite of regular season success but I wouldn't be surprised if they win a couple rounds or even make the finals.
The LA Kings are a team to watch too. If they make the playoffs again this year, watch out. They are trending upward as a young team and could be a problem for anyone they face.
Also if Buffalo somehow claws their way into a wild card spot, they would not be a bad underdog bet in the 1st round depending on who they play. If it's Boston, they're probably getting caved in, and Toronto always seems to have their number, but any other team could easily get upset by them and I wouldn't be a bit surprised.

Also thanks RT. Another team that seems to be so hard to project from a betting stand point is the Flames. What’s up with them? Are they good, not good? They win games against good teams it feels like and then lose to subpar teams. I can’t figure them out.

The Patrick Kane rumors are at its peak. Kratsov and Leschyshyn sit. Rangers need a third team to take on extra cap space. I think the Rangers should go after a bottom six/fourth line instead of another top 6 forward. Plus, Rangers will still be in salary cap hell taking on the remaining portion of Kane's contract. That becomes a real problem if there is an injury.

Hellebuyck is as solid of a goalie as you can find. Hellebuyck can steal games all on his own, which is a rare ability these days. Will be fun to watch in the playoffs. Hellebuyck and Oettinger are the most underrated goalies in the league.

There was an amazing WWE esque moment in today's Rangers game, Zibanejad blocked a shot with his ankle and had to be carried off, it looked like he might be missing a few games but then made a triumphant return at the start of the third period (after the rest of the team for extra drama) to a huge pop from the MSG crowd, and then went and scored a goal to cap it off.

The Rangers are already playing like a salary cap hell team. Benching both Schneider and Carpenter and then going down to four defenseman after Miller got ejected. Ridiculous ice times for four defenseman. Rotating two defenseman pairs sounds more like beer league hockey. Let's destroy our defensemen just in time for the playoffs because we want Patrick Kane. Salary cap hell is not a healthy place to be. Not worth it.

I'm a little worried with Tarasenko. Doesn't play hard enough. Perimeter player.

Tarasenko got his Cup and doesn't seem to care anymore. At least that's the vibe he's given off whenever I see him play.

Someone is still going to offer him a ridiculous 5x5 contract or something this off-season. Because NHL GMs are idiots and when someone wins a Cup they're immediately "forever good."

5 picks, Cal Foote, and one of the picks is a 2025 first round pick, which although is top 10 protected, it has the potential to be something decent.

Islanders not so much. Jersey has been a top team most of the season. Tough to compare the two players. Horvat is a centre having a career year. He'll regress big time next year. Meier is a power forward having a great season as well. He's only making $6.00 mill this year as his cap hit, but as an RFA his agent HD it set up that Jersey will need to qualify him at $10 mill. He's not a $10 mill per year player so Jersey will hope to resign him for probably 8x8.

The East is loaded. The West is a bunch of weenie teams. But whoever comes out of the West will probably win the Cup because the poor team coming out of the East will be so beat up and destroyed.
