Regal turning became so obvious that I was hoping it wouldn’t happen. But whatever. Interested to see how this affects BCC. Danielson and Claudio may feud now, and Moxley is going to go nuts. What about the little runt of the BCC? What about poor ol' Wheeler?

After the show went off the air the rest of BCC came to the ring and told Moxley what happened. Moxley got angry and the rest of them were basically like “we probably should have expected this, what are ya gonna do?”
Crowd chanted “thank you Moxley” and all four members of BCC hugged.

Eddie Kingston vs Jun Akiyama
Despite my initial comments, on second thought the pre-show is the perfect place for this match. There are no stakes, it's just Eddie living his dream, which is a wonderful thing. The match is about what I expected. Perfectly competent, nothing spectacular, although I thought they built up the tension in the finishing stretch really well, a nice tribute to the King's Road Style. Loved the post-match segment, don't think Taz was exaggerating when he said this may be Kingston's career highlight.
"Jungle Boy" Jack Perry vs Luchasaurus
Haven't paid attention to this feud much, but I know the cliff notes. I really enjoyed this match. The big man vs little man dynamic was executed perfectly, and it's clear how well they know each other due to the crispness of all of the high spots. I rolled my eyes when Christian opened the cage door, but I'm glad he was promptly removed from the match and the wrestlers returned to the cage after getting some hardware.
Both guys played their roles perfectly, Luchasaurus is as menacing and near-invincible as he's ever been, Jack Perry is a fantastic fiery babyface. I bought his offense, and the finish was trap. The Snare Trap is everything Cena's STF should have been. Not sure if this is the end of the feud yet because the final boss Christian is still lurking, but I feel it's time for Jack Perry to put this behind him and start fighting for championships. He's grown a lot, I buy him as a contender.
Death Triangle vs The Elite
Didn't like The Elite's entrance, but this match is a big deal, not just because of The Elite's re-return. Both Young Bucks vs Lucha Bros and Kenny Omega vs PAC were among the defining feuds of AEW's first year, so it's fascinating to see these two trios return to the battlefield on opposite sides. Honestly I don't expect to enjoy the match, but I'll give it a shot. I just hope Death Triangle win.
Two minutes in and the Young Bucks and Lucha Bros are doing synchronised superkicks. "This is wrestling!" for some, but not for me. Skip to the end.
OK, I loved the finish. Well done. ***** finish. I'll let Meltzer hand over his entire supply of snowflakes for the rest of the match.
Jade Cargill vs Nyla Rose
Even though the story kinda sucks, this actually feels like the first time ever that Jade Cargill could lose, mainly because there is a story. Jade Cargill is supposed to be pissed off, but she's dressed up as a Thundercat or something. It's very hard to take her seriously.
Watched the match on 2x speed and it was still kinda boring. Well done Jade.
Chris Jericho vs Claudi Castagnoli vs Brian Danielson vs Sammy Guevara
Excellent match. The one thing I didn't like was Jericho kicking out of Sammy's double finisher attack. The rest was perfect. Wasn't expecting Jericho to retain but I like the way he did it. Getting a win back against Claudio.
Saraya vs Britt Baker
An example of the hype being greater than the result. I suppose in hindsight it was always going to be that way, as neither woman is particularly strong in the ring, but for some reason I expected something special, whereas what I saw was a lukewarm, unremarkable contest.
Part two coming later.

It hasn't happened in a whole, but Wardlow lost once more because he spent too much time fucking around with his powerbomb symphony instead of getting the win. Sting and Darby Allin vs Jay Lethal and Jeff JarrettThe one match Baker would watch is the one match Emperor skips completely. Toni Storm vs Jamie HayterI'm expecting this match to stink because of Toni Storm, but I like Jamie Hayter. I'm watching this in the hope she deservedly become AEW Women's Champion. It's a small hope because wrestling promoters are all ridiculously high on Toni Storm for reasons I cannot fathom, but let's see what happens. Like Baker vs Saraya, the match was just there, until the shenanigans happened. The Rebel intereference was kinda interesting, but the next interference was phenomenally executed, and it got great from there. Bizarro world match where the clearly cheating heel is getting cheered over the fiery babyface. Huge pop for Jamie Hayter winning in the dirtiest way possible  Well, I'm happy, and it seems the AEW audience feels much the same way I do about Toni Storm and/or Jamie Hayter. Part three coming later. The Acclaimed vs Keith Lee and Swerve StricklandIt didn't reach the magical levels of their first encounter, but an excellent tag match nonetheless which had the added arc of Keith Lee's existential crisis. That all came to a logical conclusion. I actually thought Keith Lee would do something without being physically provoked, but he was. Keith could tolerate Swerve's dirtiness, but once he tried to get Lee involved, nuh uh. Makes sense. Only problem with the match was that The Acclaimed were too invincible. Did Bowens really need to kick out of that many of Swerve's silly kick finishers? Did Max Caster really need to kick out of their double team finish? Minor nitpick, but I guess since Swerve in our Glory are no more, might as well milk it for all its worth. Best of 7 between Death Triangle and The Elite? Those are 6 matches I will most certainly not be watching. I don't mind not seeing Lucha Bros and Young Bucks ever again, but I will miss PAC and Kenny. Is the goal to get Kenny more five star matches than Ospreay? Jon Moxley vs MJFIf we ignore the ending for a second, the match was just fine. A decent main event, nothing spectacular. Ed telegraphed the finish, but to be honest at that point I wasn't expecting it at all. Well played, gentlemen. I'm happy with the result. Moxley has become kind of stale as the unbeatable champion, nice to have a new face at the top, and a new alliance formed. What I expect will happen is that MJF and Regal form a little group and they feud with Blackpool Combat Club ad nauseam, just like the JAS vs BCC.

I didn't catch any of the pre-show. I will say it's very reflective that they have a Jun Akiyama on that spot on the card. As a fan, I don't mind it because if you're into that niche then fantastic you got a treat but if not you're not missing out either.
Jungle Boy vs. Luchasaurus - I thought opening the show with this was the smart choice. Usually opening right away with a steel cage is like beginning a five course meal with a 1kg steak but in this instance the fans weren't really into the Jungle Boy/Luchasaurus build like it was a huge draw and having it as a semi-main would have been like having a seafood basket after you've already eaten three massive courses. Here the fans were receptive and for the most part they had a solid steel cage match. I agree that the finish was over-kill, especially since you knew as soon as the table laid dormant for the entire match it was going to play a part killing whatever tension they had. That's my major gripe with the match, the table. Had it just been the steel chairs, ordinarily it'd work against the gimmick but since it's symbolic of their feud it was fine. However that plus the table and how it slowed the match to a crawl knocked it down a few pegs. Still, I feel like this was the best version of the match they could have.
The Elite vs. Death Triangle - I'd have to echo Emperor that this was the exact same highly choreographed extremely phony match you've seen before. However the fans ate it up, partially because of the events of All Out and partially because this was both teams playing to their strengths. Absolutely no selling or build-up just spots, spots, spots until we introduce the story element with the hammer. Personally I thought the hammer took away from the match because Death Triangle were well on top before PAC slowed the match down. Also, if you go back and watch the replay, I think Fenix totally kicked out of a Poison Rana into Powerbomb into a BTE Trigger. I know what it was supposed to be, but Fenix lost faith in PAC. I will say they got the finish right here. Ordinarily, you put the Elite over but I think in this instance you have to play 4D Chess with the crowd. Putting the BTE over, would have felt like a glorified apology ceremony and once fans woke up to it, would turn on them. BTE taking the L, getting screwed over again both in kayfabe and in real life sits well. I was going to say this also another best case scenario, but then Pro Wrestling has got to Pro Wrestling and they went overkill with six more matches.
Nyla Rose vs. Jade Cargill - Yeah I didn't get the Thunder Cats cosplay either given the build-up. I'm all for giving the talent the opportunity to get themselves over, but the whole build up made the company look stupid and led to segments that even Alvarez couldn't defend. The match was the first stinker but Jade did look amazing in that outfit and it was the right place on the card so following the theme - a best case scenario.
Chris Jericho vs. Sammy Guevara vs. Bryan Danielson vs. Claudio Castagnoli - Not quite as action packed as the 6-man but not too far behind either, I was surprise they slotted this where it did. It makes me wonder if this was a response to All Out where Jericho/Danielson received a relative tepid response from the audience. I've got to be honest, this wasn't as story-based as I thought it was. This was largely all four guys hitting big moves, kicking out of big moves before Jericho flubs the finish which is a common theme of 2022. The Jericho kick-out of both Sammy's finishers was my big take-away and Sammy is going to have to learn a new hold otherwise he's going to be the AEW Ziggler. One of those matches where I think the crowd was with them in the moment but if you go back through it, it'll just be a perfectly acceptable title match.
Saraya vs. Britt Baker - Are they still kicking out of moves? I think Saraya wanted to go out there and make a statement that she doesn't need smoke and mirrors and she was going to have a proper match but clearly she wasn't ready for that type of match and this was the first real misfire of the night. Not that nobody saw this coming, this was the weakest feud leading in and it derailed the women's division leading to even more think pieces on why the division is struggling.
Wardlow vs. Samoa Joe vs. Powerhouse Hobbs - This maybe one of my favourite matches on the card. When you're competing against the Elite/Death Triangle I think it's important to have matches sped up half a tempo so I was fine with the triple threat here. At 10 minutes, it didn't over-stay it's welcome and while it didn't reach any heights, it came pretty much as advertised. Wardlow loses that albatross around his neck and while my plans of a Jericho/Joe feud have been dashed, I think this can work out OK. I'd have Wardlow go up against MJF and Hobbs can go baby against Joe and take that gold.
Sting/Darby Allin vs. Jeff Jarrett/Jay Lethal - Can they please do something different with Sting already? 2 years on and they still seem to be twiddling their thumbs on this Terry Funk esque 'old man doing dives' shtick. Thought this was the worst match to date and by this point I was really feeling the length of the show.
Toni Storm vs. Jamie Hayter - Jamie Hayter is an interesting one. Fans for whatever reason have gotten behind her and while she does appear to be one of the better in-ring wrestlers, I don't think she's really had much an opportunity to show it. At best I think she had a decent performance against Riho, but even then fans were pushing her. I think it comes down largely to her expression, being non-WWE and dare I say her figure. However the fans got into it, it was without question a highlight for AEW fans and a case where they struck when the iron was hot. In a different fed, they'd hear the response and come up with an elaborate storyline to get them there but by that point they'd just end up like Liv Morgan. It speaks to modern booking and how promotions need to let things happen instead of doing it in their terms.
The Acclaimed vs. Swerve In Our Glory - The middle child of their series. Not as good as their opener, not as botchy as their second match, just kind of there. I can't say I'm a huge fan of the strange bedfellows tag teams AEW keeps pushing. First Omega/Page and now Lee/Swerve. Remember when AEW had the greatest tag team division of all-time and yet for whatever reason they keep doing the WWE thing? I don't get it and it led to a predictable match.
MJF vs. Jon Moxley - I'll have to go back and see how this compares to the match I jotted down on paper but on first glance, this seemed like another case where MJF was made to look weak for the majority of the match then the ref bump happened and shenanigans ensued. I can't believe Emperor just handwaved Regal's turn, usually you hate this kind of thing where the guy waits until the finish to actually do anything. Is there some sort of 4D Chess move I didn't consider? Because I'm pretty sure Pro Wrestling is more like checkers. Odd execution, but this was always the direction and despite all the turmoil after All Out AEW are finally back on track.
And that's how the show felt by and large. AEW getting themselves back on track after a really trying year. I thought this was easily their best PPV beating out Revolution.

Thought this was the worst match to date and by this point I was really feeling the length of the show. At the time he signed, I remember a load of people saying stuff like "He's not like Goldberg, he's going to AEW to help put younger guys over!" When is he going to start? Darby Allin was already over - hanging around with a relic of the 1990s wouldn't make any difference to that. Since the evil Goldberg returned to WWE, he's had 12 matches and won five of them. Sting has had 13 matches and won...13. The guy is 63. Why is he always winning? Who does this benefit (apart from Sting's bank account)?! Are there really people nostalgic for Sting vs Jeff Jarrett? Did anyone actually enjoy it in 2000 in WCW? Or 2006 TNA? Or 2010 TNA?

Not only is Sting winning, he's booked as invincible. First guy to get any kind of meaningful offense on Great Khali part 2, although it was a nice touch that he needed an assist from Darby to hit the death drop.
The Darby/Sting alliance was a great idea at first, and the occasional novelty tag was cool, but they're continuing to milk the cow dry long after the milk ran out.
Now Darby is stuck in a vortex of irrelevancy and it's sucking in other guys like Jay Lethal.

I did not think MJF look weak at all. He stood with Mox and took all this hyped up Mox had to offer and never went down. Sure he cheated to win, but that is what MJF does. But on the flip side, Mox could not put him away before he did cheat.
Also the cheat finish allows for a rematch with no DQ, and likely in a cage.

Why did Regal wait until that moment, why did he talk MJF down, why not let MJF win with the diamond ring? And so on. I decided not to waste my time typing it up because it felt like I was beating a dead horse with these meta complaints and they usually get no-sold. Glad someone is reading! The moment where Regal slid in the brass knuckles shocked me so much that I was all in, it was well executed. And I can believe Regal hamming it up because he sees himself as the master villain.

Mox kicked his arse through out the majority of the match and sold his knee doing a move that injured Punk's knee in their match making him look like dumbass. He didn't look at Mox's level at all ultimately justifying what Jon said on the go-home when he big leagued him.
I would not be shocked if MJF got more offense in their match two years ago.

This is what I was alluding to when I said the Regal turn seemed so obvious that I was hoping it wouldn’t happen. I don’t understand it at all. The motive makes no sense (if there even is one) and there was no story leading into the match that gave Regal any reason to turn on Moxley. Maybe they’ll explain it better on Wednesday but it didn’t make any sense in the moment.
Also the commentary team did a terrible job of selling it. William Regal has been sitting beside them for months being buddies with Taz, hitting on Excalibur, respecting JR & Schiavone, but then he turns and they’re just telling us what we’re seeing in the ring. There was no shock or devastation in their voice, no questioning what was happening, no surprise, nothing. Excalibur should have been trying to climb over the table and kick Regal’s ass but instead he’s just reminding us that Dynamite is on Wednesday.
Oh and when BCC went to the ring to console Moxley and advance the story, THE SHOW WAS OVER. 95% OF FANS DIDN’T SEE THAT HAPPEN BECAUSE THEY WEREN’T THERE OR DON’T LOOK AT TWITTER LIKE WE DO. STOP DOING THAT SHIT.
OH! And guess what? This means that CM Punk is STILL the only person to ever beat Jon Moxley clean for the title.

Yeah I think everyone picked up on the image they had on Dynamite where they had Regal standing in-between MJF-Mox. There may have been more to it as well, but that seemed to really hammer the turn home.
I wonder if they're going to play into Regal being a HHH guy? I really hope not because it always looks bush league when you sock-puppet the opposition and it's a Punk tribute act which just seems tacky.
My hope is that Regal is just quietly let go to the WWE and they used this as a moment to quietly end the JAS-BCC feud.
Also spare a thought for The Firm.
Completely DOA.

I may question the mechanics of the execution of these silly swerves and that they generally don't make sense if you really think about them, but I never had any issue with the motivation.
A few weeks ago MJF and Regal met in the ring and had a nice little conversation. Sure, Regal came out of that verbal altercation on top, attacking MJF, but despite Regal's words, he could have easily seen a true villain, a devil, in MJF. Maybe in that moment Regal decided to ally with MJF and he played the long con so help his new guy get the top belt in the company. It's easy to see why he would side with a wrestler like MJF, less easy to understand why he would turn on his long time friend Moxley and, by extension, his other long time friends. Maybe the dissention in the ranks between Danielson and Yuta also played a role in him losing faith.
There's many ways to spin it, and I'm looking forward to the fallout.

The Firm is so weird to me. On one hand, Ethan Page is fighting for the #1 contendership tomorrow. On the other, MJF used them to get his title shot, then immediately turned on them when they tried to do the same thing to get him the title. But then he was fine with it when it was Regal. What?

MJF will knock his ass with one punch with the dynamite diamond ring while his crew distracts the ref.

Sting and Darby Allin vs Jay Lethal and Jeff JarrettThe one match Baker would watch is the one match Emperor skips completely. Thanks for reminding me. I'll have to track it down.

It was entirely skippable Baker, Jarrett really did not do much and got very little offense since most of the match was him and Lethal getting beat up around the arena. This is not the JJ match we should have gotten and I hope we get a match where he can show off soon.

Thanks for the tip c. Sounds disappointing. Still likely to watch it at some point. Just won't rush to it.

He has a match at WrestleCade this weekend with Matt Hardy that will likely be worth hunting down. I know Matt is excited for it given their history. They should hype it up here in an hour or so. Match is in NC which should mean a hot crowd for the Southern boys.

Should be a good match up since neither really have anything to prove right now, and instead can just go out and show the kids some old fashion southern wrestling. Matt will likely work face, which means JJ gets to carry the match, which he excels at.
