Sting has announced that when his AEW contract ends later this year, he will be hanging it up for good.
He refused to say when the contract ends however, but it does end this year.

He said his final match will be teaming with Darby. Shame Cody ain't here. Otherwise, we'd have a perfect sendoff match for not only Sting, but for Dustin Rhodes as well. We'd could've had Sting and Darby vs. Cody and Dustin, in a generational handoff.

Sting confirmed no more 1 on 1 matches for him and he plans to go out with Darby. I assume afterwards Darby may take on some of the Sting persona, like the jacket and bat, while keeping his own facepaint.

This is what I expect. -FTR will beat The Gunns to end their losing streak -FTR focus on AEW Tag titles -Gunns decide they’re going to kill Darby and retire Sting -title shot vs Sting’s career at whatever PPV That, or Sting & Darby will get a short run before losing to the Gunns or FTR in a title vs career match. Sting will do the right thing and eat the pin and Darby will carry on as a singles babyface.
