So I went on record yesterday of thinking Derek Carr had a good shot to be a Jet and nope, he signed on with the Saints. Wasted the Jets time but he did the right move since he can hide in a dome. He made the right choice honestly all things considered although I don't think much of the Saints roster moving forward though Olave and however many games Kamara will play is certainly good.
Aaron Rodgers and GB now have the Jets by the balls.....convo will start with 13th overall pick if QAnon is all in to play this year.

Did he waste the Jets time or did they waste his? Common knowledge is that the Jets are in on Rodgers and are likely waiting on his decision before signing another QB. If the Jets truly wanted Carr, they could’ve signed him over the Saints. It’s obvious he was their second(probably 3rd after Lamar) option but I don’t blame Carr for moving on and going to a team where he was their number one option. As a Saints fan, I like the move. We have the QB position squared away, now we can focus on the other aspects of the roster. As Blindy alluded to, there isn’t much on offense besides Olave. Kamara and Thomas are likely gone. Thankfully, the draft is pretty strong this year at both positions. Give me a big body WR to pair with Olave and Tulanes‘ Spears and I’ll be a happy camper.

He used Jets as leverage most likely as it wasn't a good fit from the cold weather to the fast paced NY environment to having to pay less taxes on whatever deal he was getting. Jets dined him in and had him right with Rodgers as legit options by the sound of it but they wanted to wait on Rodgers if he was to retire or actually return next season and understandably, Carr didn't want to wait.
NFL is a business so credit to Carr but I have seen this pony show way too much. Kirk Cousins being the last one of openly using NYJ as leverage to get the Vikings to give up the guaranteed money.

Who do you think the Jets end up with at QB? Who is your preferred option?
If Rodgers doesn’t go there, the next best option would have to be Jimmy G, right? Unless they give up the farm for Lamar but I don’t see it.

Unless they give up the farm for Lamar but I don’t see it. If Rodgers doesn't retire and wants out of GB, it's NY vs LV and that's presuming McDaniels wants to have Rodgers and not have full control of his QB, which was an issue with Carr in LV. This is also taking that Brady doesn't weasel his way to the Raiders too which is an outside possibility. Garappolo also has ties to McDaniels so if Josh gets his wish of getting a QB to play to his playbook, Garappolo will be the pick. Ryan Tannehill if he let go is a possibility too but that doesn't excite me. Lamar seems more into to play in the south like Atlanta or Carolina, and there's durability issues to give up the money & picks to Baltimore to make it work. Honestly if I was given a choice, I build around Zach Wilson but I understand that isn't feasible for so many reasons from a GM/HC duo on the red hot seat to the players giving up on Wilson. It's: Aaron Rodgers Jimmy Garappolo Ryan Tannehill Lamar Jackson In that order IMO.

I don't really understand what the Saints are doing here, this just seems to lock them into mediocre purgatory for the next few seasons. I think they're being influenced by the idea that a team with a decent QB becomes the favourite for the NFC South, but they really don't have the roster to be a genuine contender.
The Jets seemed locked in on Rodgers as soon as they hired Hackett. He's obviously a far better option than Carr, but I can definitely see this playing out in a typically Jetsy fashion and they end up with no one.

Oh goody reports that Tom Brady might be unretiring again, and one of the teams to keep an eye is the Miami Dolphins Stephen Ross probably told him he will sell Brady the team in the near future if he plays in Miami. The Michigan ties are too real, he's gonna try and go after Harbaugh next year too yet again for the ______th time. And super happy for Geno Smith man, from a fringe roster spot in competing with Drew Lock for the gig to getting 103 mill over 3 years, that's such a good story. Always a fan of his.

There's probably an example out there that I can't think of - but there can't be many career turnarounds quite like this. Dude was a total joke right from the day he wore the sweater in the green room and didn't get drafted, through the IK Enempali incident, and then he comes from out of nowhere in his tenth season and earns $100 million, it's incredible.

Jesus, this is going to be an every year thing for Tua it seems. Really hope Tommy Boy doesn't go to Miami; I'd rather him join a team I actually don't like.
Go ruin Brock Purdy or Kenny Pickett's development instead, grandpa.

Jets and Rodgers talking probably indicates that Douglas & Gutekunst are in the same ballpark of a deal. Can't wait to see how much Douglas caves into a deal. Maybe an incentive is put forth on the # of times Rodgers begins his conspiracy theories. The minute he sees Hochul & Mayor Adams speak, Rodgers will go scurrying back to the suburbs of Wisconsin within a matter of seconds. That's a massive win for you guys UT if you get the 13th pick.

Scoenn probably wishes he kept the 5th year option Jones but no one saw him having that good of a year coming. Man that's a lot of money.
Barkley I think got the franchise tag too.

Fans love to freak out about the first money report but this is totally ideal for the Giants. It's basically a two year contract with a team option after that. If Jones continues to improve then the contract looks great when Lamar, Burrow and Herbert are getting 50+ per, and if he doesn't then it's easy enough to move on and get a new QB in 2024/5.
It's also a substantially reduced cap hit this season than the franchise tag would have been, so that facilitates building a better roster around him to hopefully help find that next level.

It’s obvious to any Saints fan the window closed once Brees and Payton left but the organization still thinks they can compete. As a Saints fan, this is the new reality and there’s nothing we can do but accept it. Nothing will change until Micky Loomis steps down. I saw a stat that the Saints haven’t drafted a QB in the first or second round since 1971. Crazy.

Money could have been spent on either a worthwhile WR or to improve the CB or sign Dexter Lawrence to something long term.

It’s pretty weird that teams are coming out and saying they aren’t pursuing Lamar Jackson. The Browns really fucked up the market with that fully guaranteed Watson contract huh? Lol.
I also think that teams may have learned from the Watson and Wilson trades that giving up tons of valuable assets and then signing that player to a lucrative contract might not be the best way to build a roster.

Kirk Cousins started the game with the guaranteed money, Deshaun's camp just 1 upped them by backloading the deal to avoid losing massive money on the suspension. Jackson is weird because you have to flip an offense entirely to cater to him and he has some injuries that need to be checked out before throwing that massive deal towards him.

He will be kept but I really hope he gets a 2nd chance and takes note of Geno Smith to really find the light in a new environment. It won't work in NY obviously but I really hope he gets another shot somewhere. He has handled this really well all things considered, especially from a 22-23 year old kid. Arm talent and mobility aren't a question, it's just the processing of the game and the feel needs to get better. Also the pocket mechanics where he's throwing off back feet does his accuracy in, especially on the short tosses. When he's out of pocket, he does play a tad bit better. Almost Sam Darnold esque really. It's extremely lame what some Jet players are doing on social media but it is what it is.

Some how, I know they’ll be fine because Mahomes and Reid will find a way.

This definitely feels like the move of a GM/HC combination that are trying to save their jobs by going .500 rather than the team taking their lumps for a year or two and doing a proper rebuild. He could have been had on a 5th year option and again hindsight is 20/20 but if Daboll, Kafka and co. have full belief in Jones at QB to have him run as much as he did to negate the supporting cast at WR, then it seems like a misfire by NYG to not option that in to see if he can replicate this make or break year. Money could have been spent on either a worthwhile WR or to improve the CB or sign Dexter Lawrence to something long term. Declining Jones' option definitely felt like a motivation tactic by Schoen and Daboll, and you can only say that it worked. Like I said, his cap hit for this season is going to be basically the same amount it would have been on the option anyway, so they haven't lost anything there. There is still plenty of room to add weapons, even after this the Giants are still top 5 for cap space.
