Nyheim Hines is out for the season. Injured his knee in an off-site accident.
It’s July and we’re already not getting a fully healthy Buffalo team again this year. I hate it.

Apologies for the really bad Oilers meltdown, that was a pretty flagrant playing with my emotions by Blindy with that tag you love to see it. It's remarkable something like that really triggers real emotions like that though. The knot in my gut seeing those tweets was very real haha. It's painful and unfair. Where were all these Johnny come latelies in 1993 when I was 9 on the school bus like a lion amongst hyenas defending my team against everybody telling me they were going to choke against the Chiefs in that playoff game? Watching the Volunteers? Probably not born yet.

If this makes you feel better Shin, THESE ARE GORGEOUS. WEEK 1 MNF vs the Bills they debut, we all get to witness these throwbacks. I got to say I kinda agree with Parcells that I never liked these Jets unis. I remember reading Parcells was big on them changing that when he took the job as coach in 97, he hated these. Also remember a really old Namath interview from maybe the 80's that aired on ESPN Classic back in the day where the reporter asked him what happened to the Jets and he blamed their failures on the uniform change from the ones they wore in their Super Bowl win. I do believe that there was a lot there for any NFL team and their uniform it does have a psychological effect, I think the Broncos and Patriots getting absolutely destroyed in those Super Bowls in those uniforms the way they did always stuck with them in a psychological way. I don't think it was coincidence that they started to get over the hump when they changed them, obviously great coaches and great players made it happen but there's also something psychological there with confidence and everything that you see some teams stay snake bit with great players/coaches and others have those small even lucky breaks at times(Bengals dropping that interception in Super Bowl XXIII, all the little twist of fate things that happened for the 49ers to win that game on top of them being great). Same with Tampa. Sorry to derail this with all the uniform talk but there seems to be a lot of new/old ones coming out and it's interesting. While I think these Jets unis are ugly I do love the way they matchup visually with their division rivals from that era, Miami/Buffalo/New England/Indy whenever they played each other. These Jets unis vs Miami just looks good, thats good football.

It has a sentimental value to me of the early 90 Jets. I even had a Jets jacket like this back in 96 when this team had only gotten 1 win.

If this makes you feel better Shin, THESE ARE GORGEOUS. WEEK 1 MNF vs the Bills they debut, we all get to witness these throwbacks. I second Nobi, hate this look (but at least the 90's era off-putting black facemask is gone). It's Namath era design or nothing for me, not a big fan of the modern one either. I do understand the desire to have a green helmet for them to stand out more, but aesthetically it's just inferior to the OG. Jets are one of those teams who didn't need to be messed with visually, like the Bears, Browns, Packers, Raiders, Giants, Cowboys, Steelers, Bengals, Chargers, 49ers, Dolphins and yes, definitely the Oilers -- don't change the classics. Edit: I keep thinking of teams I left out and editing them in....maybe I just hate change lol Double edit: Nevermind the tangent; They just keep making every animal look angrier (Arizona, Jacksonville) and eventually dumber (Miami). Then again, the Broncos are a good case of an excellent revamp, so it can be done. You'd think in 2023 we'd get more of that and less... Whatever the fuck Kroenke and the Rams were snorting.

Nice job by the Chargers to get Herbert's contract done before Burrow's.
And how about Jimmy Graham returning after a season out of the league? He'll probably be a TE3 at best but the Saints have to be the strangest team around at the moment

GOAT of the week in NY here was Joe Schoen for getting Saquon Barkley back to the good graces with a slight tweak on the 1 year franchise tag contract and getting Andrew Thomas locked up on a mega deal up until Aaron Rodgers shocked the world and took a massive pay cut to take care of the Jets and give them flexibility after throwing money on Lazard. Again it's the honeymoon phase but I am giving the man his due, I was against bringing him in due to the fear of drama but thus far, A-Rod has backed the talk up and has been the absolute man.

Barkley doesn’t sign the franchise tag and then essentially signs a deal identical to the franchise tag. Smart.
At the very least get a stipulation that says they can’t franchise you again.

Hope that is the case and it's a wink wink sort of thing. Still sucks to be running on basically no guarantee in the years, given his health issues. Lamar Jackson basically dipped out despite the Ravens making the postseason and eventually got his mega deal, wonder if that is sort of a wake up call for guys to "ease up" per say if it means to protect your body on what is a contract year. I don't know the talks between Barkley and Kafka/Daboll but I wonder if there begins to be a bit of a load management on Barkley for 2023. Blindy's Keeper league team was getting a bit worried with Barkley threatening to hold out on the year, happy to have him back. Especially with Kamara dun goofing it up.

There’s really no room for running backs to ease up , sure they can run out of bounds if they get the edge but the majority of the time, especially in todays NFL they are going to get hit every play.
The Lamar comp is interesting. They are both essentially running backs who are probably similarly accurate.

Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton has said he doesn't want his team to look in the rearview mirror, but Payton took a long gaze back in an interview with USA Today Sports that posted Thursday.
In an expansive mood, Payton called the work Nathaniel Hackett and his staff did with the 2022 Broncos "one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the NFL" and said there were "20 dirty hands" around quarterback Russell Wilson's career-worst season that included just 16 touchdown passes and a league-high 55 sacks.
Ultimately, Payton summed it up with "everything I heard about last season, we're doing the opposite."
Payton also took aim at Hackett's new employer -- the New York Jets -- where Hackett is offensive coordinator and the team traded for a high-profile quarterback in Aaron Rodgers much like the Broncos had traded for Wilson last year.
"It doesn't happen often where an NFL team or organization gets embarrassed," Payton told USA Today. "And that happened here. Part of it was their own fault, relative to spending so much [expletive] time trying to win the offseason -- the PR, the pomp and circumstance, marching people around and all this stuff.
"We're not doing any of that. The Jets did that this year. You watch. 'Hard Knocks,' all of it. I can see it coming. Remember when [former Washington owner] Dan Snyder put that Dream Team together? I was at the Giants [in 2000]. I was a young coach. I thought, 'How are we going to compete with them? Deion [Sanders is] there now.' That team won eight games or whatever. So, listen ... just put the work in."
The Broncos will play the Jets in Week 5, hosting Hackett's new team on Sunday, Oct. 8.
Payton has been offered plenty of opportunities, has been asked about Wilson and the Broncos' performance multiple times locally, and the strongest comments he had made were that the offense as well as the team's play overall in the 5-12 season was "hard to watch" and that Wilson would not be allowed to have a personal quarterback coach or other support staff of his own in the team's complex.
Payton also made his comments to USA Today after he had deflected multiple questions about Wilson to over 50 members of local media just minutes before. Payton is not scheduled to speak after Thursday's practice but will after Friday's session.
Payton has supported Wilson throughout the offseason and has offered that more structure and a better "vision" on offense will help the 12th-year veteran return to form. He told USA Today that Wilson "has plenty of gas left in the tank" and added:
"Man, we ran that kid through the car wash a hundred times now. But that's a storyline, though. How is this going to look? How's it going to work? You know what? We're fixing to find out. As Bill [Parcells] would say."
And on Hackett's and general manager George Paton's treatment of Wilson, Payton told USA Today:
"Oh, man, there's so much dirt around that. There's 20 dirty hands, for what was allowed, tolerated in the fricking training rooms, the meeting rooms. The offense. I don't know Hackett. A lot of people had dirt on their hands. It wasn't just Russell. He didn't just flip. He still has it. This B.S. that he hit a wall? Shoot, they couldn't get a play in. They were 29th in the league in pre-snap penalties on both sides of the ball.
"That wasn't his fault," Payton added. "That was the parents who allowed it. That's not an incrimination on him but an incrimination on the head coach, the GM, the president and everybody else who watched it all happen. Now, a quarterback having an office and a place to watch film is normal. But all those things get magnified when you're losing. And that other stuff, I've never heard of it. We're not doing that."
Asked by ESPN's Dianna Russini whether he wanted to clarify any of his comments, Payton said he is just sticking up for his players who he believes deserved better.
Ex Packer great Billy Turner weighs in, was apart of the mess of last year. Sean Payton, best known for being the head coach of #BountyGate is a bum.

He is a bum. Hackett benefitted greatly from Flower and Rodgers obviously but Payton can also eat shit.
Rodgers new contract … what a bitter bitch of an ex. I’ll always love Rodgers but I didn’t need any more incentive too root against him this year and he found a way.

Saquon's agent fucked up, he should have taken the 2/26 contract that the Giants reportedly offered.
Sean Payton is a bit of a dick but there's nothing wrong about what he said there. A HC getting fired during their first season is almost unprecedented; Hackett was utterly awful.

I don't like where this is heading for Miami - Terron Armstead is on the PUP as well and he's one of the most important non-QB players in the league.

Hackett was super bad but he seems to cope more for Russell Wilson and the current players and doesn't think it was their fault for underperforming which is the problem. In addition, he threw the GM(Paton) and several others who are still in the organization under the bus to the media which probably may cause friction(According to Allbright, some people like PR etc. are pissed that Payton did this). The "Don't blame the child, blame the parents" speech by Payton is so fucking bad. Russell Wilson turns 35 years old and a multi millionaire with revenue coming outside of football with his wife! He isn't a dumb kid, he knows better than to cause distractions and take advantage of the locker room. Yeah Hackett was the HC and made a mistake to not overrule him but Payton just patting Russell on the head and saying "It's okay" just gives further notion that Wilson can do no wrong when he deserved to take it on the chin for how he performed last year.

Why do you always take the most absurd angles on these stories? Backing the players is the obvious tactic for an incoming head coach, he's not going to put the blame on them. His relationships with them are far more important than with Paton who he will likely outlast. Wilson already took so much heat from everyone last year it would be of absolutely no benefit for Payton to pile on more, Russ should already have all the motivation he could possibly need to prove people wrong for what happened last season.

The issue is Russell has been coddled throughout most of his tenure in SEA which caused a lot of Seahawks guys like Sherman, Lynch etc. to loathe the favoritism he got often by Carroll, Bevell and company.
No one is expecting Payton to just throw Wilson under the bus year 1 when he was brought in to revitalize the star QB but to just give him consistent excuses as to why he didn't perform last year is silly.
Wilson needed last year between Geno and the Seahawks resurgence and how 2022 went down in Denver to sort of make him wake up and smell the coffee. Having the new HC just blame the last regime for most of his issues is downright silly.
And the idea he thinks the Jets want to win the offseason and chose to be on Hard Knock is hilarious too. Completely tonedeaf. Dude was mucking it up on FOX 6-7 months ago.

The whole point Payton is making is that he WAS coddled by the Broncos last season - they paraded him around like he was the second coming of Christ with the coach fanboying over his wife, gave him an office and had all his private support staff - all that is gone under this new regime. If Wilson plays poorly again you can bet that Payton will change his tune and start to blame him, there's definitely a scenario where they have a new QB next season. And at "tone deaf" like he's said something genuinely on the nose just because it's the Jets. All he's saying is that they are doing the same thing Denver did last season winning the offseason and that there's a reasonable chance it ends in disaster.

What big move outside of Rodgers did the Jets make this offseason? Maybe Dalvin Cook? Does Lazard count? Jets didn't even want to be on HBO again.

I get why NYJ wants to do this, so they aren't throwing Breece Hall in there way too soon. Also would show that Rodgers made the right move to forfeit money to allow players like Cook to come.
I still would prefer the Jets roll with what they have. Michael Carter had a yucky year 2 but Bam Knight is a good back and the 5th round RB they picked up in Israel Abanikanda has had a solid camp thus far, really showing off his speed.
